God it hurts my ears listening to flannel talk. Its like he doesnt watch the games and only cares about stats.
Sure, some of the d signing were "bad", but Id love to hear who would have been the better signing for good value at the time?
Also, as a middle of the pack team, they WILL go through stretches of win streaks and losing streaks. You cant blame the season on 1 bad stretch because you will go crazy. They could have easily lost games they were able to win just as much as they could have won more games they should have lost.
And, you really think Lalonde is really the issue because hes calm in the interviews and think hes the same in the locker room? You think he doesnt call out his players? He even said in an presser that he does call out his players and has hard discussions with them behind closed doors. Just because he doesnt publicly criticise his players doesnt mean it doesnt happen behind the scenes. This isnt the nfl. Coaches in the nhl are mostly calm during pressers and interviews and everything happens behind the closed doors.
Also you sign vets to help the younger players, its not like the nfl where a rookie can just slot in and be fine. If you do, you become Buffalo, just alot of young talent with 0 guidance.
You really think any of the guys in the locker room are just "happy to be here"? I dare you to go ahead and ask Larks, Perron, Copp that question and accuse them of just being "happy to be here". But you wont, so I guess you guys are softer than tissue.
How can you sit there and say the wings didnt take a step? They went from out of playoff contention at the trade deadline to fighting for playoff contention at game 82. Yes they ultimately didnt make it, yes, losing streaks, blah blah blah. But they learned some hard lessons this season and will grow from it.
God I cant wait for Neal and DMac to rip you a new one.

Coaching didn’t completely fail. There’s a reason the Wings were a top 10 offensive team for most of the season, Yzerman’s intelligent depth signings notwithstanding. It takes decent coaching to get the most out of these guys.
And it’s been a long time since the Wings have had this many double digit goal scorers in one season.
That losing skid in March stained what I think was otherwise a marked improvement over last year and an otherwise entertaining season.
Just my opinion, but I think their most pressing issue is defensive depth. Our second and third d lines have to be better.
And we need another young talent to come up from GR, to keep the fire alive. My money’s on Kasper to be on the roster at some point next year.

Flannel You can't be serious, are you? How quickly you and others forget that Wings hasn't had any lottery luck yet still the team came that dangerously close to making the playoffs for a defense you say is putrid. Yes, the offense carried the team for the most part but there was still some flashes of defensive plays that made some sort of small impact. The great Scotty Bowman once said: "The defense is the hardest part of a team to build". Can we get better defensively? Absolutely, but not at the expense of relinquishing future assets setting the team further back. Ask Ken Holland how'd that work out? Yzerman literally said there is enough depth and he was spot on. That amazing performance just needed to come in March. I still view this season as a success despite missing playoffs. They remind me a lot of the lions run in 2022 where they came close to making playoffs but fell short due to them putting their fate in another team's hand. The following season the lions made playoffs. You can say the same for the lions if you want to point out bad defense. The lions defense isn't good but have a great offense and still came that dangerously close to the Super bowl for a team with not great defense themselves. See the correlation? I'm not saying not to do anything for the defense because Yzerman is doing the best he can with what he's able to do with no lottery luck without relinquishing future assets. The Wings is capable, obviously. This is on the players not Yzerman. We are not going to relinquish future assets for short-term success. I'm happy with the Wings improvement this season despite missing playoffs. This season has been nothing short of remarkable. The expectation is to see improvement every season and Yzerman has met that expectation thus far. You're take is putrid. I'm sick and tired of the whining about Yzerman

Dude keeps saying buzz words for engagement but doesn't actually explain his points lmao. Dude looks at player points and team standings and that's it. I get they have 4 sports to cover and the Wings are always the last thought but if he doesn't 100% know the reason why he has a stance besides "They imploded" or "They made bad free agent signings" or "Lalonde is to blame" I don't think he should be talking about it, it's been literal weeks and he just throws out the same lines.
The reasons why Florida is so damn good is because how they scheme their gameplan; how they insulate their goalie and how they keep consistent offensive pressure by having d-men jump up and forwards drop back to take away open ice, two things the Wings don't do. Yes the wings made bad signings, but they were stop gaps for guys like Sandin-Pellika, Johannsen, and Wallinder to develop so we didn't have to throw them to the wolves. The goalies have been inconsistent but all 3 this year have been inconsistent but that leads back to the wings not having a good defensive scheme, also Cossa has been fantastic on the Griffins this year so he might solve the goalie issue sooner than we think.
Flannel is a textbook fairweather fan and only knows surface level info on the team. I get the Lions and Tigers are more popular but it's really annoying when half the guys on the show don't know what they're talking about besides "Playoffs" or "Points" when they talk about hockey.

NFL draft players that are NFL ready. NHL prospects take longer to reach the NHL level. it should only take about 2- 3 years to turn around a NFL team with the right staff with a team that has nothing. NHL where the Red Wings were at when Yzerman took over i figured it would take 6-7 years to be a playoff team because he wanted to first build up the farm system and then go from there. Andrew Copp & Robby Fabri have to go…… Holl & chariot are trash and wasting cap space. (Also petry)
Sign a better second like center and another top 9 forward, outside of Sieder, Wallman, and Ghost. Get rid of everyone & bring other D-men in.
Continue to focus on defense mainly in the draft and sign another filler goalie to backup Lyon and Husso ( or finally addressing the problem helps).

Ya’ll are nuts. There was only a minor improvement. Results just out of the playoffs. Just like always. The team almost never plays a complete game. The goaltending was bad. The defense was bad. The team is horribly coached. They had a real hard time mentally. Even the last two come-from-behind wins they played like crap until the last second. But the coaching was the worst part. And I’m starting to turn on Stevie. This is his show. Even if they had made the playoffs they weren’t going anywhere. It’s still a below average team.

We gotta remember that Steve Yzerman is building a Cup winning team…
not just one that sneaks into the playoffs …remember the early
90’s when it looked as though little progress was coming…
      This team has heart…
The catalyst for an upper echelon team that will become a serious contender every year….

For me its not just that the D and the goaltending is bad, its that they have been consistently bad for YEARS. Why are these areas still broken after all this time? Stevie fixed the offense in like 1 year.....one hot summer to bring a big improvement, and there has been ZERO improvement on the back end in 5 years, this is what pisses me right off.
When your D and your goaltending is consistently bad over the tenure of two different coaches, thats when you know its cultural.

A rebuild doesn’t happen fast. They take around 8-10 years. Its unfortunate. But. It’s the way you build a dynasty team.

@@nickstalker3254 Again, almost no progress in 4 seasons. Just making it into the playoffs in the NHL is not exactly a lofty goal. Once they manage to make the playoffs the real problems start trying to get thru the playoffs. At this pace it simply won't ever happen. And it doesn't take 8-10 years. Many teams have done it much faster. I was around when the Wings sucked hard. I watched them drafty Yzerman. I watched it all. The very biggest improvement the entire time was getting Scotty Bowman. This is where they need to concentrate. The coaching is still not cutting it. The coaching is coaching to it's level of capability right now. What turned the Lions around? No different.

Flannel you dont know hockey man this is sad they recovered from that 7 game win streak and it came down to the last game of the year and the team has improved every year since stevie got here from 39 points to 91 points and missing the playoffs on a dumb tie breaker stevie has taken the shit show from holland and he has turned it around so much the bad contacts the no prospects he has cleaned up the books got us probably the best prospect pool in the nhl and with no lottery luck drafted seider who goes top 3 in a re draft and raymond who goes number 2 in a redraft and buddy stop harping on the 5 12 and 2 strech they recovered they won all three of there last games witch were all must win games and i believe they tied all three with under a min left won 2 in ot and the last one in a shootout they clutched up at the end of the season and showed they can fight and they wanted to make playoffs and that they wanna win no one is just happy to be there what a joke you would even say that the wings have always had something when there bad or good they work hard they put in effort every game dont give me that just happy to be here crap what a joke and lalonde is a good coach just because he is calm in the media doesnt mean he is like that in the locker room he has said he is hard on players holds them accountable and had hard conversations with them and he is a winning coach he won with tampa i have faith in him stevie chose him and yeah maybe stevie didnt make amazing dman free agent signings but there wasnt really manh available he added what he could and ya maybe we didnt need to trade for petry i agree with that 100 percent but getting debrincat and kaner a plus moves sprong and compher very good moves too the defense ghost was solid holl was awful and petry was ok edvinsson tho came in and looked very good so he should make the team next year overall we are really only in like year 3 of our rebuild stevie had to clear the books and id say with our prospect pool and the young guys on the team already we will be a dangerous team for 25 plus years agian and im looking forward to it i believe in stevie and you know what to be honest we kinda need more lottery picks to offset use not getting a top 3 pick but number 14 or 15 whatever we will have is brutal we chose to pick going for the playoffs and we just missed out so now stevie has to work his magic and pick the right player at 14 or 15 and then next year i know we will make playoffs
