    Here’s the facts: if at the start of the year you say: we’re gonna get 91 points. Have stars emerge, but just be 1 point out of a playoff spot. I’d say it sucks but I’d take that not knowing how the season goes.
    But when they were 9 points in a playoff spot, comfortable, and then to completely choke like they did and lose a playoff spot nobody seemed to want near the end. Then yes this season is a failure because they were a playoff team and choked, miserably

    Our season ended when Larkin got injured and the team went on that disaster of a losing streak which killed our season. We were up 9 points ahead in the wildcard spot! I know Larkin is very much the heart and soul of the team but the fact that none of the other veteran players could step up and lead the team to at least 3 or 4 wins during his absence is just not good enough. It looked like they were all waiting for the other guy to do something. Sometimes teams lose their captains for a while but most don't self implode like we did. I feel like Lalonde has to be looked at as well as he failed to adjust with Larkin's absence.

    The 7-Game Losing Streak in March Cost the Red Wings a chance to the playoffs. That is why I am calling this season a Failure. Steve Yzerman should have made a Coaching Change during that Stretch. They need help on Defense and an Upgrade at Goalie for the Short-Term.

    I think the Red Wings now know without any doubts where they are weakest and what they need to fix. I think they didn't make a move at the deadline because they wanted this team to sink or swim and evaluate the results. Stevie said he thought they were good enough to make it in, but that's just the public comments, I bet in truth they wanted to see how they would play and go from there. Now, the question is, will the Red Wings go get the players to fill those weaknesses and needs or not, and will they make adjustments to how they coach or not?

      Is that what the Lions did last year when they didn't make the playoffs? No its what propelled them to have the year they just did. Same expectation for the Wings. Next year is playoffs or bust as this year, despite the disappointment, was an improvement in my eyes. Now they know what it takes and what its like for those intense games. I think with defensive improvements they can get it done!

    This was without question the first season where I am disappointed. Last year I thought we were right where I thought we'd be. This year I genuinely believed we belonged in the playoffs and that 5-6 week period around March was infuriating. Redwings need more help on defense and another quality center behind Larkin. That's just where we're at now.

    Everyone seems to get pissed when I say this, but missing the playoffs by 1 game and staying put at the deadline is a terrible, terrible look. There HAD to have been a SINGLE player that could've helped us win ONE more game.

  • @user-fm8iw3om4r
    @user-fm8iw3om4r Před měsícem

    I agree with almost all of the comments saying the season was disappointing due to the fact we had control; HOWEVER I think everyone's goal at the beginning of the year was to be in the position we were in and I am comparing this to the Lions two years ago. Opposite in terms of Lions started bad finished strong but they really showed something made it to 8-8 and that propelled them to having the year they did this year.
    Wings two years ago were flirting with the playoffs as well and fell off the earth. This year, despite the horrid streak, they showed fight they did win some games down the stretch (albeit too few and too late) but I really think that will propel them into this next year. They know what it takes now and the different feel it has playing for your life. Get some better d-men in and work on that and forwards how to play D and I think next year we are talking about are 1st rd matchup. Go Wings!

    Ken Holland left absolutely nothing when he left. He had 64 draft picks and out of those picks 1 guy became a ligit nhl star and that's larkin. Steve yserman came in and said we have to completely start from nothing and build through draft. If you look at the progress of the red wings the team has gotten better and better each season but building from the draft does not happen in just a couple years. These kids get drafted than go to their farm teams to develop before they actually become a ligit nhl player. Its rare that draft picks just hop straight to the league and become productive pros let alone super stars. If you followed the lightning he had to do the same thing and he became the greatest drafter in nhl history. One of the major things he had been able to do in Tampa is draft 2 goalies that became studs. One has become one of the greats in goaltending. That has yet to happen in Detroit but yserman is on pace to have this team ready for bigger things and i really believe next season will be the breakout playoff season and than from there deep playoff runs. When he left tampa they had all his draft picks come out of the farm leagues and win cups. I just watch a whole video about yserman and the actual numbers and statistics and he is right on pace to have the wings blow up like tampa did. It looks similar and he just needs that goalie to help put it over the top. I dont care what people think. They dont pay attention to the things i just laid out they only pay attention to win for me now! They dont understand what ut means to rebuild through the draft. That does not happen over night and it takes more time than an nfl or nba team. Hockey is different. These kids are not all just instant nhl stars they have to grow and develop. If there was zero progress than thats one thing but the chart shows a steady climb in stats since stevey y took over. This year was the start of culture building and learning how to win as a team. Next year will be a playoff team. Yserman is a genius at finding talent in drafting but the players have to be developed right and it takes time. They are right on schedule for big things . It took jim Harbaugh 6 years to get the program fixed and get his first guys he recruited to start being upper classmen building team culture. They didn't come in as a group of freshmen and just start a culture of winning no it has to go through progression and when his first couple recruiting classes finally became his upper classmen they got things done. I truly believe this will happen for the wings

      SY has spent a ridiculous amount of money on 3rd liners and crappy old dmen. Copp-JT-Ras should be our 3rd line next year (none of them belong on the 2nd) and that may be the most expensive 3rd line in the history of the NHL. Thats $14M right there that we can spend on 1 or 2 studs! Throw in Holl who gets paid to sit home and watch the games and Chariot who sucks most the time and thats like $23M. Thats $23M for guys that can be easily replaced with Berg-Kasper-Soder-Johansson-Wallinder. As much as we all love Stevie these moves were mind boggling to me and totally unnecessary from the start!

    It doesnt matter how you get to 91 points. You are still at 91 points. There were plenty of games the wings had no business winning which could have gone the other way. Im not saying that we should not still be disappointed, but when you say that a 91 points season were you are fighting until the end would be a success, only to completely change your narrative for the sake of sounding different, is in my opinion idiotic. There’s no success without heartbreak, but they should have taken that WC2 spot having only needed a measly point and having plenty of opportunities throughout the season to take candy from a baby (Arizona!!!). Lalonde is the biggest issue on this team. How do you not call a timeout after giving up two shorthanded goals against San Jose in December then gove up the lead and eventually lose against one if the worst teams in the NHL. He had no clue how to end the losing streak and simply made no adjustments when they were warranted. He is inexperienced and it showed so bad this year and it cost this team in the long run. As for Larkin being out what about the problems they were having in December and he was in. This wasn't a case of no talent or one guy not on the ice. This was a case of bad coaching and Lalonde needs to go. Biggest issue is who do you hire? I want an experienced head coach no more AHL experiments or unproven assistants. Kane himself has hinted that he’s going to try the market next season, and if he leaves, it will be even more difficult to get to 90 points next season.
