    Whats crazy about alcohol is how socially acceptable the effects of alcohol are. Everyone has an embarrassing story of something they did while being drunk, which they are quite happy to share. Also, imagine if we talked about being strung out on heroin the way we do about getting drunk. Its crazy.

Just water and other foods, that's not healthy enough for me. I'm healthier with quality beer, in moderation. I drink water too. I drink juices, I drink tea, I don't drink coffee,…. because I find they're distinctly not healthy for me,…. whereas, I find quality beer is highly healthy for me. I rarely have liquor, and just a teaspoon or so is all that I find healthy. Wine is somewhere in between,… occasional,… quality wine, preferably oaked/oak-barreled. It's a terrible vice that kills thousands of people directly and indirectly. Yes, a drunk person can do something to harm someone just because they're drunk. But in our society, the most you see to dissuade alcohol use are "Drink responsibly" and "Don't drink and drive" ads. Whereas tobacco use is 100% negative these days. I still remember Joe Cool from my childhood. My point, and this is the last time I'm going to make it, is smoking in public directly affects anyone close enough to inhale my smoke. If I get plastered, I have to take an action to harm someone in my drunken state. Yes, they're both terrible. Yes, they both kill. Yes, alcohol is worse simply because it's promoted as a great way to catch a legal buzz. As someone that has overdone alcohol multiple times in the past, i feel like alcohol will stay legal for a long time. I found that it kind of shuts down people. The very few dreams and goals you had, vanish when you get few shots. All of it stops mattering. Then, when addiction kicks in, the only goal in life that stays, is getting enough money just to get fucked up again. So, it will stay legal because it's profitable, even though highly destructive to society in general.

    I'm glad that I came across this clip because, after almost a decade, I am finally coming to grips with this fact. Alcohol is just as bad or worse than any other toxic substance you can put in your body. It affects people differently. For some people, one drink can cause cravings for it for the rest of the week. A lot of times people justify these cravings, "this beer is perfect with my wings," or "one drink is basically nothing." It's all because the body is craving it. Some people are fortunate enough to where they can have a drink and not care if they had another for a month. For others, a drink is a slippery slope.
    I am giving up alcohol because I am tired of looking back at life and wondering what could have been if I were sober. I want to feel better. I want to have deep meaningful relationships. I want to say I've reached my potential. For all of those who are with me on this journey, congratulations. I’m responsible, I have a SHARP memory and I’ve had high grades in life. So overall, way I see it one is the problem when the other isn’t. Any event with alcohol and “good times” I’ve seen devolve in some way. I was a valet, I saw a kid pass out before he got through the doors at a Sweet 16, was SO fucked up that he had to go to the hospital to have his stomach pumped. Yeah “good times”

I really love the experiences of being drunk and normally have a fairly good control of myself, but the withdrawals the day after can be awful- massive anxiety, racing heartbeat and blood pressure through the roof. I can't stand pot however. It is the opposite of a social drug for me. I get crazy paranoia (about things that aren't real threats- like I'm going to stop breathing, or something terrible is going to happen to me), my brain works super slow and I don't feel like talking. I've had it a few times where it's kind of like I'm looking at the world through a TV screen. Growers focus on creating the strongest possible strains because most of the buyers are chronic smokers with high tolerance. There are low thc high cbd strains also there are two main types of weed. Indica relaxes your muscles and makes you feel sleepy while sativa keeps you energized and stimulated creative activity it is not just due to body chemistry. Would people consider mid strain in the cannabis community because they do not get them as high as really just regular weed. Canna tonic , sour tsnumai , tangelo flow are some good strains for beginners

      You know that marijuana addiction is NOTHING compared to alcohol addiction, right? Alcohol is GABAergic. This class of drugs is the most addicting one. Alcohol is one of the few drugs where stopping cold turkey in some cases leads to DEATH. Can never happen with Cannabis. The withdrawal symptoms of alcohol are insane. Cannabis withdrawal usually is NOTHING compared to this, maybe dysphoria and insomnia for a few days. (I'm not saying Cannabis addiction is good, no addiction is good!) Also, (chronic) alcohol consumption poses some big risks for the human body, unlike Cannabis. If I had to choose between those two addictions, guess what, I'll take Cannabis, the one that doesn't kill you. This shouldn't even be a debate...

      My mom drank during my whole life and I became aware as I grew up, resulting in many problem along the years. At some point she had a bleeding in her stomach, took some medication for that (don't know exactly what) and went into a coma (as the medication went straight into her bloodstream because of the wounds in her stomach and her body (liver/kidneys ?) was not able to efficiently get it out of her bloodstream). When she got out of the coma, she lost her memory for some time and quit alcohol. After quiting alcohol she went downhill over the course of a couple of months, loosing a lot of weight and basically her body started failing. She died soon after because of her liver failing. I was already out of the house back then trying to figure out how to set up my life, and this whole episode is kind of a blur tbh. I never got to say goodbye.
      My dad died more recently. After years of alcohol abuse in our teens, he quit alcohol entirely until some years prior to his death. He moved to the middle of nowhere about 15 years before that, isolating himself from the rest of the family. He was very independend and kind of a loner. No real friends or anything. We visited him from time to time. After he broke up with his girlfriend of 15+ years (he moved in the region because of her) he was incredibly lonely and unable to adapt or move somewhere else (he was already 75). He started drinking to cope I guess. By the time we found out he was already drinking a bottle of whisky a day and having tremors and shakes if he didn't drink. We dried to offer him as much support as possible but at some point we found him on the floor. He must have fallen, maybe hit his head and he passed away. we found him 2 days later. The coroner estimated natural causes, so no further exemination was done to investigate specific causes.

    When you go to a concert, who is it that wants to fight you if they bump into you, the drunk or the pot smoker?

    • @owlaracing1106
      @owlaracing1106 Před 4 lety +88

      Precisely, another example is the time police officers spend dealing with alcoholics whereas pot smokers avoid police at all costs😂. Idk where you're based or other people but in the UK alot and I mean alot of time is spent dealing with drunks over the weekends. Yet the pot heads are the ones who get hassled and belittled. Society is backwards.

      Joseph’s Quest Just because you might not want to fight people whilst drunk doesn’t mean that every single person in the world won’t either - it’s not a shit comment, it’s a fact. Alcohol commonly increases aggression compared to other drugs such as Marijuana

      @@Josephguestable I didn't say "everyone who drinks", some people dont get aggressive when drinking but alot of people cant control their consumption levels. Plus there not shitty comments when theres truth behind them. When you're stoned it's pretty fucking hard to start a commotion with someone and theres also information on how alcohol actually stops a specific part of your brain from functioning which is why drunks cause more problems than stoners. I'll try find the link if anyone doesn't believe it also if you think I'm having a go at you I'm not. 👍✌

    Ex alcoholic here, how crazy it’s it (personally from the uk) that people recoil in shock when I say I don’t drink. It’s completely insane that a lot of the west accepts alcohol abuse and don’t even know the damage they’re doing to their physical and mental health.

      Fiend Archive oh really despite it essentially being a diuretic by inhibiting ADH? How does that make sense? And in order to be “clean” it would have to be rather high in alcohol content.

      @@medicah It's more about the culture built around alcohol. In ancient times, wine was the foundation of the Roman empire because it crudely cleaned water. It's also the blood of Christ, so many members of the clergy often made wine. Also, every culture that has existed has made a way to conduct alcoholic fermentation. It's very difficult to separate something so easy to make from humans.
