I agree with strap config. I replicate what tow truck and car haulers do…straight back or front depending on what corner of the vehicle and I go over the top third of the tire as anchor point on vehicle to allow the car suspension to absorb vertical motion and not force it all on trailer suspension.

Now there's a wonderful family heirloom back on the road! 👍🍻 When I was in 1st grade in the early 70s, my Dad bought a used 65 F100 Flareside with a Six and 3 on the tree. He believed it was the 300 cid version. It was used as a commuter and a hauler for Dad's many around-the-house projects.

Love the truck, I had one very similar to it in the 1990s. Mine was a short wide box, with the 240/3-speed. It had a spun bearing when I bought it, (I was just out of college and earning decent money) so it became my first full-on, proper engine overhaul, which involved a good machine shop and fresh everything. It did stellar service as a daily, all-weather mode of transport. I miss it, this brings back good memories.
Never had a problem with the single circuit brakes, but if I had to do it over, I’d replace the flexible brake hoses while waiting to get the engine finished.

@@SallysSpeedShop How can there be no need for a pickup truck? when they are totally utilitarian? Are you saying they had newer pickup trucks? because the common and practical way is to combine an old pickup truck, and a '65 does fine, to move things that are too big and/or too dirty for the newer car. But that is no luxury unless you have a newer pickup or you hire such things moved. My '82 Dodge pickup is certainly no luxury because I need to move things too big for my Geo Metro at least twice a month.

@@SallysSpeedShop I'm pretty sure that year and model of truck was designed to be able to cruise at 60 mph at least, so I think something is wrong with the wheel balance or alignment if it can't be held steady at 60, though modern car may be far steadier, that truck was designed to go 60, not just 40.

Listening to these young guys talk about standard equipment on these old vehicles that were common place as if those things were odd makes me realize how old I am. Those vehicles back then were our daily drivers, our workhorses. We built houses, worked farms and ranches , did construction work without all the bells and whistles on todays vehicles. Somehow we survived without all these bells and whistles and big diesel engines in our trucks. People back then drive more respectful not like todays impatient assholes that are in a hurry to go nowhere.
