They did the fade out on Sultans of Swing because it was a long song and radio stations don't like long tunes. The live or Album version is the full length as it should be. I saw them play this live and my God they rocked.
I don't buy this "radio stations don't like long tunes" argument - I mean to some extent, but I don't think Pink Floyd's "Confortably Numb" or "Pigs" were ever made for radios. Or Pantera's "5 Minutes Alone"... This was some bs fad that to this day gives me BDSM-level of edging when I listen to some of my favourite songs. And maybe the "edging" was for the artists to lure people to live concerts to hear the whole songs - sell more tickets...? Who knows. F- annoying tho!
@@woocashkyI can tell you that Led Zeppelin was only found on obscure FM stations in the early ‘70s when AM was king and LZ was in their prime because their songs were too long for the AM format.
Obviously your chops are beyond incredible and watching you smash slipknot etc one-handed is unbelievable, but it's an absolute pleasure to see you kicking back and grooving to some classic rock. Tasteful and masterfully controlled. I'd love to see you cover more of these "easier" songs. Update: Just so folks know, I've been drumming for 27 years, so my mention of this as an "easier" song is not intended to disparage it in any way, just highlight that it's not as technically profound as some of the other tracks performed on this channel (which I think is a good thing).
Not so easy... at least it's not a song for beginners, mainly because it's not only playing notes, there are some subtleties and its groove has some kind of... flavoring
It's strange actually. You play all your instruments like they are an extension of your soul, it's quite astounding, because, being a musician myself, it's extremely rare to see this. Mabe once, or twice in 40 years have I seen this in a musician. It sends shivers down my spine watching you. Back to The Sultans, one of my favourite songs to sing, the only thing I could say about your technique is that you play the rhythm too exact, (if that's possible) I mean if a metronome was clicking away, you probably played every beat one thousand off the true click. Unbelievable! If you're ever in Athens Greece, look me up if you need anything. ❤
I think that is one song where fade out works very well. It's upbeat and You want the guitar to go on and on and never end, so it gradually lets you down out of the song, One of my favorites , for about 10 years that was my ringtone, then about 10 years on CCD classics; they all have a distinctive entry that works so well on ring tone.
Pick Withers delivered an exceptional performance on the record. I respected it from the first hearing when it was released. I grew up with guys like Jimmy White and Ben Baily who were #1 in State of GA in that day, then went on to study in University and be around Sonny Emery. As a bassist I was spoiled ROTTEN. Walking down the hall on the 3rd floor you would walk past the percussion practice rooms at 10 Peachtree Center Ave. S.E. and hear drummer practice, and have to stop and gawk at Sonny in his room and the sound leaking through the seam of the jamb. Stunning. I also got to work with a guy who inadvertently turned down playing for Stevie Nicks. He did not recognize her. That guy was immovable, even when he looked dead from the opioids his Dr. tried to kill him with. Just perfect and stone solid. That was the Sultan's Perc Part. Just as stunner.
Wow. Been watching you crush insanely complex metal and prog stuff for an hour now. But the musicality you bring to this entirely different genre is just as amazing! So good!

Pick Withers tight playing on this track is sooooo important for the whole DNA on "Sultans of swing". Especially the high hat lifts gives it the right groove and swing. Many drummers forget this very important part.

@@AdMBandLeader amazing technician. But... yes completely overplayed. A cymbal crash on every one count? or every second measure on the one count is overplaying. As to quantization that is the real message. No click tracks were used in the making of the classic rock songs! Drum machine ability but the danger is to becoming obtrusive to the music. One may overtake the singer with overly long drum fills at key points in the song. As a drummer, outstanding but as a group member, fulfilling a role of support is challenging for this man. Song is very nuanced and vocal transitions are gentle and cannot be obliterated by drums. Jorge, I’m glad you exist and here’s my small bump to your algorithms! I’ll copy to a bunch of your videos! My reasons? 1. I’m not a drummer and haven’t listened to much music for years (I’m into books right now). I’ve never enjoyed watching drummers do their thing outside of a song. Despite that, you have grabbed my attention and I’ve dipped into music styles I don’t even enjoy and discovered artists that are great! Your mesmerizing drumming and the pure entertainment raised them to something worth watching again and again! Wow! I’ve listened to more music in the past couple months than in the last decade! Thank you! 2. You are funny, authentic, intelligent, incredibly disciplined and skilled. (You are also some real eye candy, but that wouldn’t matter if it wasn’t for your inner qualities!) What impresses me is that you want to pass on your life lessons, knowledge and skills to others and inspire them on their own journey. That’s big! Huge!!! We need more people in the world like that! 3. As a side note, in your Million Views video you mentioned that something in your character drives you to do correctly whatever you’re doing. That can be a blessing or a curse, but when I listened to your Mike Portnoy video and your story about your girl related reasons for learning his song, I just started laughing. Your drive to do things ‘correctly’ could be a blessing for your partners! 4. Thank you for enriching my life and I wish you fulfillment, success and happiness as you ‘lay pipe’ in your own life’s journey! Life is short, go for it! Nancy from the States!
fade out was used to sell more records, something to do with permanence, meaning the songs with fadeout somehow proved to remain in our mind longer than ones without fadeout

Are you joking man? That's one of my favorite songs and one of the first I used to play when I learned how to play drums. I'll never forget my shin burning trying to play it as a noob. Masterpiece!
The live version of this track is epic with no fadeouts. The one where Mark Knofler is wearing a John Mcanroe headband. The drummer ends the song, you'll like that!
This song is filled with chops. I think it's harder for drummers to stay in the pocket sometimes than it is for them to create amazing fills. This video shows you doing both, and loving every minute of it until the fadeout. :)
Haha, love the commentary at the end dude. On point. And as far as “nobody watching it because no chops...” Those people can piss off. Every cover you do not only includes chops, they offer a unique takes on a huge library of different music. Great job 🤘

I would love to see you live with a band some time. I will stay tuned. I’m have my passport you know.
Yep. Reminds me of Nuno Bettancourt on guitar--versatile and can shred with anyone, but also can sit back with restraint and be musical without going 11/10 non-stop.
I liked El Estaparo's however Pick Withers does like a triple double on his 2 rides an just perfect .. a bigger kit but LOVE LOVE PICK'S on this classic in key of F or Dm
The fade out was due to radio time constraints, and it allowed the band to really wow the audience during a live performance since they never got to hear the song end properly on the radio. A teaser if you will.
@@RideAcrossTheRiver No, I am not. Maybe from a certain era, e.g., from the 60s and 70s, but with the spread of more energetic genres becoming popular - such as disco, heavy metal, punk, death metal and so on - fading of songs went out of fashion. Energetic, fast-paced songs nowadays have definitive stops at the end, not a slow fade-away. There are of course still exceptions to this, but not many.
I couldn't agree more. Tunes need an ending. They do when they're played live. Hell, I even know tunes that fade out and you can hear an ending just before it fades out completely. Japan - Fall In Love With Me is one of them.
Mi canción favorita y se te ve disfrutarla. Es una pasada como la tocas, con qué precisión y respeto al jazz original de la canción. Aún así se te nota que no puedes evitar puntitos de velocidad...
Fade outs were to make the song fit within a time period that was good for a radio DJ and ads, it was a driving commercial factor. The even older stuff used to be even shorter.
Dire straits was one of the best bands from the 80's. Pick Withers was a great drummer, with creativity and knew his place as an instrumentist. as for the hi-hat question, I think you cannot actually hear the extra strokes when the accent open hi-hat happens because the sound of it opening already fills that part of the beat. great video!
" Sooooo...this is what I think about when I'm high...."😆😆😆😆😆Sportin' the cool Vans Old Skool treads as well. I think the fade was used by engineers to fit tracks on old vinyl EP's
Dire straights were a musicians band. their songs were longer in duration when played live, hence the fade out on the single in what was actually the middle part of the song . Playing live they were technically perfect in their musicality and played their hearts out still sounding like the actual record/CD. What let them down ( IMHO) was a lack of stage presence or personality from Mark knoffler but then , as I said previously, they were there to play music not to have everyone dancing in their seats.

Best drummer I've seen in my life, hands down! Big props to you my friend
Hands down... This dude is by far my most favorite drummer out there.
Pure talent and passion in all his work. 💪🏻🤟🏻
Szia! Szabolcs vagyok Magyrországról. Elnézést kérek a kommentemért, de...
Nagyon szép férfi vagy. Bocsánat.
Nem értek a zenéhez, de
Amit te csinálsz az fantasztikus.
A szemem nem tudja követni a kezed.
De én követem a csatornádat.
Gratulálok.
Szép férfi, csdálatos teljesítmény.
Elvarázsoltál.
Köszönöm szépen.
😍
I LOVE this song. We used to play it in the very first band I was in (almost 30 years ago now… wow). In fact, the guitarist I used to play it with just passed away last year. This was a wonderful memory. Thank you for sharing. Well done.
I can not agree more with him about fade-outs I hate them!!! Moreover, El Estepario is a gorgeous drummer. It is a pleasure to see how he listens to the music when playing, his simple drum set and how he never hesitates. Proud that he is a Spaniard like me ❤
Total control, unbelievable speed, perfect timing. This guy is a drumming MACHINE!!
Excellent timing, but not perfect. Google Jonathan Moffett
@@djk721963 Dude, everyone in this comment section knows who Jonathan Moffett is. We’ve all seen the Drumeo videos. Let people enjoy things without correcting them
@@djk721963 and you are who? Give us a break! We don’t need your negativity. The world is hard enough as it is…🙏🏼
@@djk721963could you point to where he missed a single note or was out of time please. If you’re talking about musicality and interpretation then you are talking subjectively. In which case your perfection is not the same as any other persons. Of course the original gets the credit for being the brilliant original. But for you to say he’s not played this perfectly according to objective measures is astounding.
@@djk721963 Nor is Moffet, he is human like the rest, thus not perfect by definition. To believe he is perfect is ignorance, or blind attraction.
Fade outs were popular because it helped radio DJs transition tracks which in turn could lead to more plays
Being a relative of David pick withers I can say you did a damn good job . “With the sultans of swing “ been playing since I was 5 and I’m 32 now and cant jazz like you do . Your fills and rolls are on point . Good job mad props keep it up , ps: I would like to jam together sometime
Amazingly on point. That’s what I love about your playing. You keep it very much as it’s played. Obviously you add a few frills. But it’s on top of what is correct. You are an amazing talent. Loved your story. People need to hear the practice makes talent part so they don’t cop out on someone just being Gifted without the work.
I admire your control in this one. It truly makes me appreciate your playing even more... You're a beast!
The ride groove at 4:12 is EVERYTHING! It’s been something I’ve always loved about this track! Amazing work!
Only time he actually fully opens his eyes, 100% accuracy on those bell hits!
Indeed the best part
This song is filled with chops. I think it's harder for drummers to stay in the pocket sometimes than it is for them to create amazing fills. This video shows you doing both, and loving every minute of it until the fadeout. :)
Great points
Agreed, this is great 👍
Right on!
The Tchaikovsky fade out bit was the only time I laughed out loud all day. 😂
hard to play a fade out live.
One of my favorite covers you have done. ❤
Nice work on the cymbals! A proper rendition of a 70s rock classic!
Haha, love the commentary at the end dude. On point. And as far as “nobody watching it because no chops...” Those people can piss off. Every cover you do not only includes chops, they offer a unique takes on a huge library of different music. Great job 🤘
If anyone thinks this is “no” chops, they need to take some actual drums lessons.
@@drums4lyfe0987; Or just stop pretending they know what chops are...
Chops can go pohuj if it is not for the greater good
no chops? buddys making 4 different tones with his god damn floor tom....
Agreed. It's the time he keeps that gets me. On point.
I'm no drummer but even I am always impressed by the drummer's performance in this song. It's so spot on and you nailed it as always.
There are just some things that are beautiful to watch. This is one of those things.
Sultans of Swing is a classic. My dad and I didn’t agree on much music but we used to blare the Brothers in Arms album together. I know it’s in another album but that got me exploring all their discography. So much great stuff. Alchemy live is a fantastic album.
God this drum kit sounds just killer !
I don’t think you can record a kit better!
Wow! Just wow
Sir, without a doubt, your are one of the most amazing drummers I have ever heard.
Priviet MR. Estepario, Your comments about the fade-out are on point. I've wondered about that since I first heard the song in 1979...when I was 13
Salut l’ami
Amicalement
Patrick
Always listening to the guitar in this song, I guess I never realized how amazing the drums are! Fantastico!
Pick Withers was brilliant!
I love the uniqueness of this musical era!!!! Your drumming is a joy to watch!!!💯💯💯🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
He has got this song down perfectly. I have never seen anyone every play this song on the drums as great as El Estepario Siberiano. I wish I could plan the drums as well as El Estepario Siberiano
One of my favorite songs. I think the reason so many songs use fade out is because they simply don't know how to end a song.
That was tight. Well done. This song is just too cool. How can you not have fun playing any instrument in this song.
Excellent job!!! I’m a huge fan who would love to see you recognized as one of the most influential drummers . I love this man’s personality and perspective on things!
I certainly enjoyed your playing this tune! it would be great to hear some of the other classic rock and jazz tunes from back in the day!! Love to watch you, but I really enjoy watching these older songs!! Thanks for the great video!!
My favorite song, inspiration to get myself into drumming and more important connects me to my loved father. Thanks for sharing this video!
I think the fade out was common because bands looking for radio play typically in those days was a 4/5 minute song... hence fade out.
E.E.S could you have a go at Focus " Hocus Pocus" please? Or does anyone know if he uploaded already something along the tune? Many thanks, you rock mate!!!!🥁🎼🎧🎶
YES!
SÍ
Yesssss!!!
solid request, the yodeling parts will give us a chance to take a smoke break...
@@bgmac1219 ha ha. I'm sure Siberiano will do a smashing act, at least the whistling part. He's so musical, creative, imaginative. He doesn't believe in talent, so let's say UBER competently determined.
If he does a Focus, I'll do a Cocus....
Your poise is genuine and the most impressive take away as it conveys >>>10,000 hours of practice. Noticing the precision of notes and you being at ease tells one that you are looking at a master of the craft.
Amazing! In this original studio version, it was all about Pick Withers' subtle jazz trained touches. Love what you can do within those parameters and bring something of your own at the same time. I wish you were professionally mic'd up so the beauty of your cymbals would come out better!
Yeah, the mic was making the cymbals a bit harsh.
Ha dejado de ser el Estepario Siberiano, ahora es el Estepario Tropical 🤣
AJAAJAJA
Selvático tropical?????
I've loved Dire Straits since 1980 and ruined the cassette tape by overplaying it in my Walkman - this is one of my 3 songs all time and you did a fantastic job!! I'm glad it's one of yours!
Haha i love the rant about fadeouts ! ♥ This song is on my favourite album of all time, Dire Straits (1978)
Thank you for NOT over-complicating the riffs on this one. Some songs don’t go well with all the added, unnecessary flash added in.
Easily one of my fav videos by you. I appreciate seeing all the nuance just as much as seeing all of the other badass stuff
Now I think you are one of the best drummers ever. You kept it tasty through the whole video and let him play his solos without shredding over it. You have plenty of videos showing your chops. This was very important for me to see. Well done sir and the comment on fading literally made me spit my morning coffee against the wall. Thank you. I would love to see you live with a band some time. I will stay tuned. I’m have my passport you know.
Yep. Reminds me of Nuno Bettancourt on guitar--versatile and can shred with anyone, but also can sit back with restraint and be musical without going 11/10 non-stop.
Love the fill after “Time Bell Rings.” Watched just for that. Glad I did.
The echo on the snare.. EPIC
Funny enough I was thinking right from the start the ott snare echo spoiled it!
@@jvn4202 same! It's way too jarring and distracting. This song is tight not loose.
*reverb
And it really ruins it
Fade-out gives you the feeling that the song never ends. It keeps going on and on.
unfortunately it gives me the feeling they had no idea how to finish it, and the sound guy just pulled down the mixer buttons 😂
Quite a few records fade out, nothing wrong or right about it.
@@vitapont7338 Are you aware most recorded songs have fade-out?
@@RideAcrossTheRiver No, I am not. Maybe from a certain era, e.g., from the 60s and 70s, but with the spread of more energetic genres becoming popular - such as disco, heavy metal, punk, death metal and so on - fading of songs went out of fashion. Energetic, fast-paced songs nowadays have definitive stops at the end, not a slow fade-away. There are of course still exceptions to this, but not many.
@@vitapont7338 You are unaware, yes, and your reply is nonsense.
I couldn't agree more. Tunes need an ending. They do when they're played live. Hell, I even know tunes that fade out and you can hear an ending just before it fades out completely. Japan - Fall In Love With Me is one of them.
That little groove at around 4:06 ALONE is worth the watch. Just brilliant.
Bro, sometimes just sitting in the pocket and having a relaxing groove is what the soul needs lol. That's was slick
Yes, I enjoyed! Really great to see you playing laid back too, keeping it as simple, as the track is! Love it! Thank you!
70's..
Awesome cover dude. I have to admit I like a fade out, as it sounds like the song is going to continue on into the universe. Eternal!
I've been trying to convince my band to do a live fade out for years! Lol Your definitely my favorite drummer with the most amazing snare ever!
YOU'RE definitely my favourite drummer
Ha do it! My old band had a song with a live fade out and it always got some attention
I love this. Watching you groove is killer. And that ride action.
Unbelievable.... totally amazing....💥💥
