  • I'm able to sketch Vernazza, Italy, part of the Cinque Terre thanks to the good folks at ProWalk Tours channel here on CZcams. This virus has been hard on us all and traveling has been extremely limited. That doesn't mean you can't still visit these places thanks to walking tour channels. I have gotten permission to do this watercolor sketch from one of their many travel videos. I'll take you through every step of my technique so you can do a sketch of your own. It may not be as good as standing there in person, but it beats getting jostled around by all those tourists!

    Now you can and it would be most appreciated. Once I get to my $1,000 goal, I'll be buying a second camera to record my mixing palette since it's the number one request I get. Cheers! www.buymeacoffee.com/steveatk...

      @@SteveAtkinsonFineArt That's true Steve. I bought a treadmill a few months back due to Covid. It has iFit but sometimes I just cover my screen with my iPad and run along with a virtual run in 4k on youTube. It's brilliant. I've already completed a few Scottish walks/hikes using iFit with Graham McTavish!. Now I can workout while walking with ProWalk Tours as well.

    Ciao Steve, the watercolor sketch turned out great. I really enjoyed watching the video. It was really interesting to see how you progressed from one stage to the other and your commentary was great. I really appreciate the show out! I wasn't expecting that at all. I would imagine our viewer base overlaps quite a bit. What do you have planned next?

      Ciao Isaac! What's Next??? I dunno, where are we going on the next ProWalk Tours video? I don't suppose they'd let you in to some of the museums to see some of the amazing paintings and sculptures in Florence or Rome? ;0) Seriously though, my next video will be telling everyone about this great online art study website called Evolve. It's such a great way to get your foundation in drawing, painting, values, edges, composition... the whole nine yards. Let me know if you ever make it out this way, here in Prescott, we're in the middle of the state of Arizona and less than two hours to Phoenix, Sedona, and the Grand Canyon. It ain't Italy, but some folks kinda dig it!! Thanks again for your awesome channel and for the collab.

    Really nice Steve! Love the suggestive pen rendering style. Not easy to pull off with buildings. Although it brings back memories of some real estate illustration projects I was not too fond of. I did them but... didn't love doing it. DO love watching it done well though. Great tips on the Lexington Gray and the ProWalk Channel. Also great to see another watercolor from you. I think you may have offended some Brits by calling that tweed flat cap Italian... just sayin'!

      Hiya Steve! Yeah, it's funny how we learn as much about what we wanna or don't wanna do from those not so fun jobs as from the fun ones. Haaaha, yeah, it was either that hat or my speedo... I figured better to offend some Brits by calling my newsboy hat Italian, than offending everybody by wearing my Euro speedo. ;0) Thanks for watching and Ciao Grazie!

      @@SteveAtkinsonFineArt Not yet Steve. Liguria is divided in Eastbound Coastline and Westbound Coastline and Genova City in the middle dividing the two. Vernazza and the Cinque Terre ( the five lands) are on the east side but instead I have been most to the west side of Liguria, which also have lovely places. For such reason wanted to go there last autumn in occasion of my "back to home" yearly trip, but had cancelled the trip. I hope can reschedule it for 2022. I think for this year will still be quite difficult.

    I'd never heard of Prowalk Tours. You can bet I'll check it out. This came out really good. How do you determine where you put your "dots" and why do you do that?

    • @SteveAtkinsonFineArt
      @SteveAtkinsonFineArt  Před 3 lety +1

      Hiya Taylor! My Speckles are just a style kinda thing. I've heard them called atmospheric dots. I put them where the piece needs a little razzle dazzle. Just an instinctive placement, and if I find I don't like it, I quickly wipe it off and no harm no foul. Thanks buddy.

    Great video, Steve. Your teaching style is very comfortable and your topics are engaging. Thank you! I don't know if you've done this before as I am a new subscriber ... but ... maybe you can say something about those delicious guitars I see in the background in some of your videos.

    • @SteveAtkinsonFineArt
      @SteveAtkinsonFineArt  Před 3 lety

      Hiya Graham, it's great to meet you here! And I appreciate you subbing, it really does help my channel to grow, so thank you. Ahhh, my guitars. It's been a long and winding road, but the Cliff notes version is that I took up the guitar many years ago and my teacher at the time told me it would be just as easy for a leftie (me) to learn to play right-handed on a right-handed guitar. So I worked at it for close to 5 years and could never fingerpick or strum with any consistency with my right hand. It turns out there are degrees of left-handedness, and I'm one of the worst. So, I finally sold my right-handed guitars and over time, bought the lefties you see on the walls of my studio. The Les Paul knock-off is a wonderful Harley Benton, and the Tele is a Squire. Neither is expensive, but they sound incredibly good... or they would if someone who knows what they're doing was playing them... grin. I've promised myself that when I get to a certain level I'm going to treat myself to a high-end guitar. I also have a Harley Benton acoustic guitar that I keep in a stand beside my easy chair so I can just grab it and play.

    • @sandy411
      @sandy411 Před 3 lety +1

      @@SteveAtkinsonFineArt Got it. Thank you. for those who play, having a guitar around is like having Boo around ... you just feel good when you see it. You just want to pick it up and strum it (or pet it if it's your cat). I'm right handed and can't even imagine playing a left-handed guitar. Also, it's way easier to play a well made guitar than it is a cheaper one. I have a Taylor steel string and a very light hand-made classical acoustic, which is a dream to play. Anyway, I just discovered your You Tube channel, and as a developing oil painter have found it very, very helpful, and I truly appreciate having it there for my many painting challenges (all enjoyable, if often frustrating). So thank you so much for that. I look forward to many more! If you know of a computer program similar to photoshop, but far easier to learn, I'd love to know about it. Maybe you have reviewed one? Than you for being accessible!

      @SteveAtkinsonFineArt  Před 3 lety +1

      @@sandy411 I totally agree about playing a well made guitar being easier to play. And that guitar I talked about being my future reward... it's a Taylor. I just love the Taylor sound. Martins have always sounded a bit muddy to me. Glad you're along for the ride Graham and happy painting!
