- Join us for our third video in our Italy series. In this video we do a deep dive into the towns of the famous Cinque Terre Coast. We boat, train, and hike between these coastal towns to show you what a proper deep dive looks like. Come with us as we review the less touristed towns of La Spezia and Porto Venere in addition to Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso.

Researching before our trip this summer, and YOUR vid is hands down BEST one! Many thanks!
Thank you so much!
@@NearFromHomewhat she said makes sense though. I had watched another video with a lot of facetime and viewers tend to fast forward or even give up.
@@taast5157 I don’t know what to tell you. We’ve gotten over two million views on our channel, tons of comments, and I can’t count on one hand how many people complain about having to look at my face? Versus the overwhelming majority of comments, including the one above, saying that our quality is some of the best in the genre. You can’t make everyone happy though, and I can only create art in a way that I enjoy. I spend thousands of dollars and thousands of hours creating content that I give away for free in the hopes of helping people have better vacations. God knows this channel makes no money for me. So if people don’t want to travel with me or look at my face, lol, then they can watch something else. Diving into the statistics, I’ve also made videos without my face before, usually list or compilation videos, and I can tell you for a fact that the retention I see in my analytics is the same. So sometimes……you just gotta ignore a comment or two.
As a senior ( but very active traveller) I rarely am impressed with travel videos, but your cinca terre one really impressed me - thanks very much - we’ll go there next spring and hike it all!
Thanks so much! That really means a lot. If we had had more time, we would have hiked it all as well :O
Did you use a drone for some shots? I have one but some tourist places in Europe have banned them!
@@davidmacmahon7964 Yes! In Europe, you are allowed to fly a drone under a specific weight. I can't remember exactly, but our DJI Mini passes.
@@NearFromHome mine is a mini 2 sub 250 grams
Really good informative video, enjoyed it a lot. Got me excited for my summer trip. Thanks 🤘🏼
Thanks so much! Hope you have a nice time!
LOVE this video. Thanks guys! We’re heading to Italy in a month (for a month) and had planned 1.5 days in CT, but now I’m gonna try to squeeze at least another half day from our schedule to spend here, based on your recommendations. Thanks for sharing your valuable experience!
Thanks so much! Glad to hear it. There's just SO much to do, a d 1.5 days isn't really enough.
Heading there in 2 weeks! Thank you for the great tour. So much helpful information
Thanks so much!
Excellent video, we will probably do this in our upcoming trip to Italy.
Awesome! Glad to hear it. :D
jumping off the cliffs and swimming with the fish in manaroloa was the best part of the day. Vernanzza view was the highest, and the food in riomaggiore was perfect!!! We stayed in Genoa for 3 days like we did in Florence and had an equally amazing time!! The history and beaches of Genoa are outstanding, and a whole day in the Cinque Terre was just fine, we got all of this in and more!
It really is amazing. Thanks so much for watching. Glad you had a nice time.
loving the video guys
Thanks so much!! 🥰
cool vids dude. can't wait to go back to Italy!
Thanks! 🥰
Great video man, ima be there for a month so will have plenty of time to explore
Very jealous! A month there would be incredible. Make sure to check out our Truffle in Tuscany, San Gimignano, and Monterrigioni videos too though :) as they are so close by and I don’t think you’ll want to miss them.
Thanks for the great video! Love the lemon bucket hat 🙌
hahahah this is perfect, because Ben thinks my lemon bucket hat is ridiculous. I will remind him of this comment from now on.
It's always a pleasure to see a tourist point of view of your own region. Cinque Terre are amazing and, for better or for worse, a little bit of a tourist trap.
I hope you also had the occasion to see Genoa and some of the villages between Genoa and Ventimiglia. Some are really stunning.
Thanks so much! We plan on returning!
Lovely video! Appreciated the high pace energy! Did you use a gimbal for these shots?
Thanks so much! No we didn't! We use an iPhone for much of the broll. The internal stabilisation in recent iPhones is amazing. As for the dialogue, we used a stabilisation post production software!
Cool vlog. Cheers from La Spezia :)
Thank you!
I always stay in the old town of Monterosso... one of our fave places, stayed there 3 times...
It's very cute!
I’m in Lindau now planning excursions- love your videos! Where can I find your hat??? It’s so cool
Thanks so much! It's from Bavarian Caps!
We can't wait to see the Cinque Terre on our honeymoon in 3 weeks, great video
Thanks so much! Have a wonderful time!
What a lovely flashback from last May (when we actually also met for a sec on a hiking trail! :) ) And true - 1 day is not enough! I've made only 4, but it was a big rush. Place to come back
:0 Thanks so much. We also loved it. Where did we meet you? We ended up talking to a lot of people who saw us filming lol. The tourists were so friendly.
great video and it will help us because we are going to travel there , but italy is known for food as well and just wish you had shown more of your food experiences. thank you
Thanks so much! We did shoot a food video, but I'm not feeling very confident in it, and haven't released it.
@@NearFromHome maybe next time
Love takes time. So worth it. Loved your video.
Glad for your travel pace at 5-Terre. We'll always remember our very first visit, Fall 2003. We walked nearly the entire Via d'Amore trail then with our 3- night stay in Vernazza.
Naturally by now we have vintage "American English brains" and I find your speaking pace a bit too fast. We have been back to 5- Terre several times since '03 😊
Thanks for watching. That 2003 trip sounds so nice!
We chose Sarzana as a base to visit the Cinque Terre and it was a pleasant surprise. Beautiful old town full of concerts, vintage markets and great restaurants. It is the real authentic Ligurian town and still little touristy. We recommend it to everyone!
Looking at in on google maps. It looks so great! Thanks. Will check it out next time we are in the region.
Sarzana ligurian? Well no...but ok...
Very comprehensive
Always :) No matter where we go we try to be as comprehensive as we can. I hope you stick around!
Loved the video, but what I want to know is where you got that sweet snapback?
Thanks!
Lol. it's from Bavarian Caps. I have a small collection of hats from them. You can find them online, and they have a small shop in Munich.
This is a great video! I am trying to go when it slows down a bit. Do you think September will be a good time? Where did you swim?
I really don't know. I think September will be good, as it is the shoulder season. I am not sure if it will be nice enough to swim though
Great video as usual. I agree with you, I can't imagine how you can do that in a day and feel like you got to experience it. Two questions: is it worth it with the ridiculous amount of tourists coming through? And since a lot of people are just doing day trips, is it more enjoyable in the evenings with less tourists?
Honestly, I went in prepared to be underwhelmed and frustrated at how busy it was. No matter how cool a spot is, if it is over capacity then it’s over capacity, however I still found myself really enjoying it. A large part in the evenings when everyone else had gone home. So I stand by this itinerary 100% :) I’d have scrapped the video otherwise.
cool video.... you could actually make reservation at manarola nesum dorma by signing up to their pesto making class... after the class you actually get food... and its cinque Terre (teh-reh instead of ruh...)
This is a genius move!
Hey, I loved your video. My wife and I are going to the Italian Riviera for our honeymoon from March 28 to April 6 and I would love it if you gave me your suggestion on the order of places to go to in Cinque Terre and the landmarks, activities and food you consider a "must not miss".
Hi! Thanks so much! We really just recommend absolutely everything in the video. We did some other things, but ultimately cut out anything we didn't enthusiastically recommend. If you stay in La Spezia like we did, it really doesn't matter what order you do the villages in. We do consultation calls if you have lots of questions!

Great vid. Have to ask, who were the celebs?
Thanks!
JoJo and her fiance lol
Great video, i assume that the traincard will be 32 euros each, it seems in high season (we have a day from la spezia off a cruise in July),i keep hearing it is 18 ...i assume you guys are outside peak season?
I believe so; I think we shot this video in May?
Thank you for this video. We are going in September. Also are staying in La Spezia if we can find a nice air bnb. I wish you would have showed more of La Spezia. But Monterosso and Vernazzo are the main reasons we want to go there. The hike between the two....was it ok for a 60 year old fairly in good shape? Thank you.
We really showed most of it. There's not a lot. it's just a good jumping off point because it has a train station, and is very well connected and affordable.
@@NearFromHome that is the total opposite from what I’ve heard from many people. You should just be honest.....you didn’t spend time there. Saying there’s not much there is not true. But nice try.
@@Gigi-mc2zb idk what to say man.....🤷♀ When you have actually been there, let me know
Another great video, I have been to the Cinque Terra in May 2019 on a cruise day trip and went via train. It was a crush of people when we we there and could not even get a table to eat anywhere. I felt I probably saw more in your video than real life.
😭 I always feel so bad for people who come to Cinque Terre for a couple hours on a cruise. Hopefully you can return and experience it fully!
Cornilia (like lasagna, the g makes a y after the consonant it precedes).
I realised that after we recorded it. My greatest shame. lol
I stayed in Corniglia for 4-5 days. It was terrific to be able to visit a different village each day. We had great breakfast in the tiny piazza each morning and the waitress eventually called out to us as we came back in the late afternoons. It's a special place! Our Daily Gelato was fab. Try basil and lemon together.
That sounds like the way to do it! We'd def do it that way if we were to return.
Drinking beer in Italy remains an inexplicable (and probably inexcusable) concept to me. Nice vid though!
Lol. We are uncultured, and don‘t love wine. hahah
What’s the Port city you start the tour from?
Do you know if my eurail pass can be used for the local train there?
I'm not sure. It looks like people online are saying yes?
@@NearFromHome Thanks. I’ll be flying into Frankfurt early September. I can’t wait to see my second hometown of Würzburg. It’s been awhile since I was last there.
Did you grab the QR code or the name of the restaurant?
How do you purchase the train ticket that includes premium hiking passes? Also, curious, where are you take the train from to get there
YOu can buy it on their website:
www.trenitalia.com/en/service...
We stayed in La Spezia, and took the train to the Cinque Terre towns everyday. La Spezia is easily accessible from Florence. It's about a three hour ride.
what time of year was this video made?
May!
@@NearFromHome grazie.
Okay he is definitely comparing apples to oranges. Most Day Trip Videos do just that. Take a Day Trip by Train throughout the 5 Towns. They bypass LA Spezia and Porto Venere, they don't Day hike etc. He doesn't even taste some Foccachia ! My group wants to Day Trip CT this year from a place South of Florence. I think they are nuts.
Those day trip videos are as crap as the itinerary they promote. Sure, skip La Spezia and skip Porto Venere but anyone trying to visit all 5 towns in a day or less……and those who think it’s a good idea? Idk Near From Home is probably not the right channel for them :) which is fine. - Foccacia was saved for the food video. This video is already 30 minutes, lol, it doesn’t need to be longer.
Yea but is cinque terre even in assassins creed?
Ich würde outgecallt.
Please forgive us 🙏
Duh, see it
:D

Really enjoy the antics of that short-haired brunette chick. She seems fun.
😐
Not a bad video but what you obviously don’t realise is that the people “Jamming “ five towns into a one day trip , they are aiming at cruise ship passengers who only have one day to visit.
Not to pull the curtain back too far, but focusing on what I did was not out of error or misunderstanding. I know my niche, and I know what videos get shown before mine by creators with larger audiences. They often day trip via train or car, and I made this video to help combat what I see as bad creators promoting bad itineraries. My feelings on jammed cruises are made clear in other videos :)
Why to you prononce Cinque TerrA ???? Terré !
Because I am not Italian.....
There are so many vlogs where they pronounce it Sink Terry....soooo I thought I did pretty well
Way too much face time. Let’s focus on the scenery. We can listen to you without having to see you. In spite of that, great content.
I’m glad you could find value in our helpful and expensive to produce, however completely free for you, content despite having to look at my face.
