    Haven't yet watched, but I have been sitting more the past few years. I lost two clients who thought I was being lazy, but glad they're gone!!

    I started sitting more within my first 6 mos of doing massage. ( 4 yrs now) I sit for neck, shoulder, peck, arms, hands, feet and some scap and back as well. I'd say a total of 30 mins in each session.

    Thank you for reminding us that it’s not being lazy to sit! I have had such a hard time with feeling like I was being lazy for sitting down- I felt like I had to stand for the majority of the session otherwise I was being lazy but you made some great points 👏🏽

    Very happy you explore this topic! Call it lazy if you like, but the more you take care of your body, the better it is for everyone... and if you can be just as, if not more effective sitting than standing then it's a no-brainer! Great stuff :)

    Love the point about monotony …not even something I ever even thought about before with massage and it’s such a good thing to think of. Keep the same general massage style your client likes but switching it up just a bit here and there to keep it feeling different and new. Love it. 👍

  • @btsnoona_
    @btsnoona_ Před 2 lety

    Absolutely! I do a lot of concentrated work on the neck, head, traps, levator scapula, and subscap I also sit down if I'm trying to work on the lateral glutes, ITB, feet, and even peroneus longus if it's really given them a hard time. Several years ago I figured out how much easier it was to sit while massage someone is the sideline position. Pretty much if I feel like I'm about to do the splits I sit down... I enjoyed the video, definitely some good ideas haven't thought of. Thanks!

    Hi Ian! Where were your knees pointing when you were working the legs? Straight at them or more toward the shoulder?

    • @MassageSloth
      @MassageSloth  Před 2 lety +3

      Good question! More toward the shoulder, but knees straight-on (and splayed to either side) would be good for scooping that lateral tissue posteriorly.

  • @HeatherLindsay
    @HeatherLindsay Před 2 lety +2

    Busting out my spare rolly stool. Thank you for this reminder. I have been doing as much as possible with my eyes closed which really self corrects posture well but gravity is a thing and sitting offers more ease.

    • @MassageSloth

    • @HeatherLindsay
      @HeatherLindsay Před 2 lety +2

      @@capitana4719 it's a excellent way to slooow down and instead of looking down the head automatically lifts. Another perk is my facial muscles relax because I am not processing images. All sorts of things I notice if I just remember to practice. Will organize my thoughts and finally make a video like Ian has been kindly nudging at for years, ha!

      @@MassageSloth fence sitter here! 👋 ha!!! I know, I know. I just finished a massage where I sat most of the time with eyes closed, my person didn't stand a chance to stay awake. 🤭 I used a light stool without wheels so it is even quieter that my rolly one. Felt more steady.

    • @MassageSloth

      Ah! My secret there is to sometimes wedge one or both knees under the table. It also helps to have your chair set low so that your feet are firmly on the ground (and if your chair doesn't go low enough, look for one that does!)
