- After a buzzer beater controversy earlier this week, Camden High school's basketball team won its championship game Saturday. CBS New York's Kristie Keleshian heard from fans on both sides.
This is weak reporting. The story they are presenting makes it sound like an honest mistake. What they are not telling you is that it was pretty obvious he got the shot off in time. The refs initially appeared to count the basket. The Camden coaches surrounded the refs screaming their heads off. This led the refs to huddle up and change the call. Later, the refs admitted to completely screwing up.
Why did the Camden coaches have so much influence in getting the correct call changed? It was obvious the player got the shot off in time because the loud buzzer went off when the ball was going through the basket. I'd like to hear from the refs why they changed the call. The whole thing is highly suspicious.

I said the same thing. EVERY ref I know would have to be POSITIVE to overturn a partners call. They just don't like to do it. The INITIAL call was correct. I am very interested in the mechanics of how the overturn decision was made. Did 1 ref see it as good but 2 refs saw it no good. Is there a head official who makes the final call. It annoys me when they say bad calls are part of the game.. no shit....but the CORRECT call was made then overturned that is much different than just dealing with a,bad call. Something stinks

We are all one people. People came together for the love of basketball. Camden coaches will disagree, but they need to reflect why they started screaming in the refs faces after the game. It was pretty obvious he got the shot off in time. The Camden coaches used their influence to get the refs to overturn the initial correct call.
Poor sportsmanship by Camden administration for not asking to have Manasquan go to title game.
Classless program from the former coaches, to current coach’s, the athletic Director. The whole Camden community sounds like a joke. My football coach always told us 1st class or no class and we got 2 state titles in 3 years. 🤦♂️

They're not champions because they didn't win it, the wrong team was sent to the championship and everybody knows it. I wouldn't want to play for this coach knowing that he could have came forward and said listen we didn't win and we need to be better. You could have went to the state board of review and the basketball conference and said we didn't win this and you could have forfeited it, but you didn't. There is no glory in your wind because you didn't belong there to win It, this will always overshadow this championship and you know it. Not my type of Coach to play for that's for sure. The wrong team won the championship and that's that.
How can it be controversial? They have cameras everywhere.
Because NJSIAA doesn't use cameras to review calls. It's that simple! The rules are the rules! It's over. Suck it up!

There is legislation being drafted in the NJ State Assembly that would allow for video replay to be used in basketball tournament games. In all honesty, it should've been in place a decade ago.

So we’re not going to talk how manasquan outside of the last shot didn’t score the whole 4th quarter and was up 22 to 9 at the end of the first quarter. Yes it was a bad called but at the end of the day manasquan blow a 13 point lead in the 4th gotta finish the job hopefully next year they can

I feel for the Manasquan team, especially for the seniors that were cheated out of that win and the chance to play for the title today. They shouldn't have been there to begin with. If I'm NJSIAA, I'd be saying 'Nope. You didn't truly earn this due to referee error and administrative corruption. If you want it, you are to have a fair rematch against Manasquan again this fall - winner takes the trophy'. Would be the only true way to undo the taint.
