I like how the eyes aren't visualized, it's like dehumanizing them in a way. Artificer is too far gone to see anything but rage, and the scavengers are not people to her, but obstacles to kill. Love your art style too!!
It also reminds me of the game where eyes being not depicted meant a loss of innocence and that’s why only the children would be drawn with eyes

These animations about artificer always make me cry the mere thought of loosing a loved one non the less two is enough to make me cry and beg for some form of redemption, I know she fictionall but my statement still stands.

I also someone else point out that Arti starts out in only a blind rage, but soon she turns to instead a cold commitment to her job. At a certain point, she’s no longer seeing red, but rather deliberately choosing to continue on her quest of genocide. And that’s still fueled by hatred and anger but it’s a conscious choice of revenge. So her eyes change from blood red to simple and clear white. OR i am looking too far into this.
Fun fact: in expedition mode, you can go to metropolis as some of the slugs later in the timeline, and there are way fewer scavengers, suggesting that arti's massacre did actually work in forcing them all out of pebbies facility
Or, arti committed full on genocide and they just, all died

Plus its also only way to get moon read the pearl found in metropolis
Maybe they just slowly died off because they needed the chieftain scavs citizen ID in order to enter.

The yellow circles behind Artificer are supposed to hold resemblance to the yellow light behind Pebbles in the end of cycle image after meeting him but I didn’t want to draw all the squares because I’m lazy

light blue would also have worked because it's pebbles' chat colour, overseer colour and inspector colour

this is amazing. i always imagine this final confrontation with intense angry background music, but something about the calm, simple conviction of this song really suits it even better. like arti's not going berserk in a blind rage anymore-- now she's battle-hardened, she has heard the echo's warning and she's making the conscious, clear-headed choice to ignore it.

I like how the karma symbol for anger and violence flashes in time with the word 'spoke' to imply that Arti speaks the next lines directly to the Scavengers, dripping with all the hatred that it implies.
Everybody scavvin' until the slugcat speaks fluent Ancient.
"The problem with an eye for an eye is that everyone ends up blind." I cannot deny her the revenge she wants but then again I can understand her want for revenge.. how dare the scavengers be the Judge, Jury and Executioner to a literal child that didn't know any better?

See, I had a different mentality playing artificer. True, an eye for an eye makes everyone blind, but I don't care that i'm blind. I just don't want them to see.

The problem with an eye for an eye is the ratio. If I lose an eye I'm making sure the entire kingdom is blind too. - a rough quote from memory of a character I don't remember.

I like how the line “I am the righteous hand of god”, and “I am the devil that you forgot” works so well. As if artificer has completely gone mad and sees nothing but rage and is only killing the scavengers out of pure spite. Making sure what she sees as a maggot of the earth, to be destroyed once and for all. And the second line is something that is said how the scavengers completely forgot about them, even after the chaos they’ve done to them and her cubs. In which they paid the price for their lives. This is in which truly makes the scavengers truly afraid of slugpups as having PTSD of having a demon of death, fire, and explosives murdering most of their species just for killing two. Truly a magnificent animation, great work.
slugcats are a force of nature:
hunter hunts so many red lizards that by the time of gourmand or survivor there are much less presumably aiding in their extinction
Artificer kills so many scavs on top of pebs they deem it uninhabitable and reduce their number by so much we rarely see elite scavs again

This is one of the best designs for artificer i've seen in awhile!

This is amazing. It fits the lore, its sad, it's artificer. The animation is peak, and the song fits, it captures how shit leeches are, and it makes me wonder why arti didnt just die so she could respawn with the slugpups.
But one thing i have to say in this tradgedy filled story.

Finding a cure to a disease because the disease took your loved one's life feels like the type of revenge that would solve a problem.
Even without facial features, every character feels distinct! I don't know how you've managed to blend simplicity and distinctness in this way, but it looks great, and complements this animations storytelling!

I have watched this 13 times. The animation of “the righteous hand of god” and “the devil that you forgot” really shows artificers rage.
I like randomly seeing this in "watch again", always makes my day better.

Tbh, on "and then the preacher man was hangin by a rope", I would have liked to see the Chieftain scav hanging by those long pearl strands that are attaches to tolls

I interpret this as the scavs dont recognize arti by her appearance, rather by her ravenous hatred and will to destroy all that the scavengers hold dear.

the montage at the end with the karma dropping really suits how hopeless it feels to play artificer, you enter the story too late to save both Arti and the scavengers, the cycle of violence continues no matter what. And yet it still feels cathartic in a guilty way to bring hell upon the scavengers, even if the death of two children is nowhere near justifying genocide.

but seriously, i have returned to study how you animated fire and smoke so well with that jitter effect 👀✨. i am learning things here, and these learned things i will apply in a soon-to-be-released animation >:]. still havent finished loving over your art(i)style ❤💛✨
That’s wondeful. The best way I can explain how to animate fire is that the mass of the fire moves up and tapers, so I draw circles moving vertically upwards, starting big at the bottom and growing smaller and smaller as they reach the top, in a cycle. As the smallest circle at the top disappears, another circle takes its place, moving up. I use that as a base to draw over the fire. For smoke it’s a similar concept except the mass of the smoke moves side to side, which is well visualised here:
