SHREK 2, PS2: i don't have a nose review

It ain't ogre yet, folks! Shrek is back in another video-game - one that is far, far better than its piss-poor PS1 predecessor Shrek Treasure Hunt. Indeed, this 2004 movie tie-in lets players revisit all those memorable scenes from the movie, including that part with the bomb-regurgitating troll, the giant spider ambush, and that scene in which Fairy Godmother takes Snow White hostage. Remember all that? No, me neither.
But regardless of whether it accurately follows the plot of the movie, it looks to be an interesting ride. The game sees our eponymous ogre faced with stone warriors, evil frogs, and chicken infestations galore. Yep - it's certainly not easy being green.

The funny thing about this game is that not only is it a tie in for the second movie but it alos uses elements from the first movie as well. That is pretty cool.
I remember playing this game quite a bit. The Big Gingerbread Man level was my favorite! I swore it wasn't so far into the game though!

The pied piper boss is just like Mysterio in Spider-Man 2. Just convenient that 2004 had two sequels I loved that both had games and they were both published by Activision

I love this game. Need to replay it some time. Still one of the most aesthetically strong games on PS2. It's funny when you said 'spitting image', 'cos the human Shrek in this resembles the *Spitting Image* puppet of Prince Andrew! XD

4:19 I forgot to mention,but to be fair,Dragon was nowhere to be seen during the events of the second movie,ironically enough,since I imagine the only being/person who most likely could stand against her was the Fairy Godmother before her demise. I think they had to nerf Dragon for the sake of the third film or the franchise might've been renamed for her.

It's weird that Fiona's mum, Queen Lillian, never appears in this game.
I thought that. She is at least mentioned in the intros to the levels, in the book read by Magic Mirror.

This game gave me nightmares because if you die then you hear a demon laughing at you
I know if you do die it sometimes makes this weird 'dizzy' sound effect.

Ohhhh mannnn this is actually a surprisingly good game - but there was a bit where there are 5 minigames you have to play and it doesn't progress to the next level straight away so I spent ages just running around the same area

Nate Joe It did- and it's not too bad. It's more like a sequel. The first 4 levels are based on the end of the movie and the rest act as a continuation. It's nothing amazing but decent.

I remember playing this game a lot when I was a kid.
Sadly my parents wouldn’t buy the Shrek 2 movie, but they got me the video game for some reason. My least favorite part of that game though was trying to be Puss in boots before he was on your team, I don’t know why but I had to turn the volume on mute in order to beat that part of the game

Even though this game doesn't exactly tie in well to the movie it atleast still tries to and the game actually has a plot and it has characters from the film. Unlike the game of How To Train Your Dragon 2.
Seriously all that game has that is to do with the movie is the dragon racing seen right at the start. All you just do is fly through rings and race other dragon riders or do similar challenges which isn't great either. The game doesn't even have a plot or even follow the events of the movie. There's no ice nest, no Eret, no Bewilderbeasts, Drago and his army don't even appear, no Toothless getting mind controlled and killing Stoick and Toothless becoming the new alpha, no Hiccup using his flight suit or kick-ass fire sword that can also use Zippleback gas to make explosions. Seriously absolutely nothing. I guess it's supposed to be shortly before or after the film but that raises even more questions since it features both Stoick and Valka on Berk even though Valka isn't even at the beginning of the film on Berk and of course Stoick is dead by the end of the film. If it's supposed to be before the film then they should have Stoick but replace Valka with Gobber and his dragon Grump. If it's after the film then they should have Valka but replace Stoick with Eret since he becomes Skullcrusher's new rider.

To be fair to the developers I think all they had to work with was the script because the game came out the same time as the movie

This was a good review you got my sub. I'd recommend in the future trying to paraphrase more when you write out your description if you are looking at your "script" while writing it out. I read the description before the video and then immediately heard you refer to the "Piss poor PS1 predecessor" verbatim in the video which sounded redundant when it shouldn't have because the wording in your description is identical to in the video. Just a minor thing. Good job though!
Ah thank you! I sometimes feel people don't necessarily pay attention to the description but usually I do try and vary it. I try to make them a lot shorter these days too as it can sometimes feel as though I'm reviewing the game in writing. Honestly though, thanks for reading it! I've considered abandoning the full descriptions in the past, but it's become sort of like a tradition I've kept since the early videos.

I only ever got to play the first 5 minutes of this game, though I did have the GBA game (the main one) which was ok, though the Mongo level is hard as hell
Hassle in the Castle is much better though

Yes! It's the same with Cinderella and Lil Red. They're nothing like in the movies at all.
It's not just the game either - Rumpelstiltskin appears in Shrek the Third but looks and sounds totally different in the 4th movie.

Oh Shrek two good memories on the game cube and since I actually have a game cube I might actually get this game again just a replay nostalgia memories me and my brother both had to fight over the Puss in boots waterfall seeing as we both loved Puss in boots but luckily my brother got to do the waterfall scene and plus I’m not sure if you guys ever seen Ginngy hero time but you can hear almost an exact song parody of devil went down to Georgia when you’re doing gingy hero time Plus kudos to Tara Strong for playing red Ridinghood you’re always the best Tara keep it up

I remember getting this game after a trip to asda and i remember the highly detailed face of shrek on the cover and how annoying the, "hero time" missions where 😅 but the mongo mission was my favourite and the mine cart sucked balls in difficulty 😅
The Mongo mission was also my favourite. This is actually one of the few movie games that didn't follow the movie well, that I actually still really enjoyed.
@@idonthaveanose yes i agree, i prefer when game tie in go off the beaten path, i see them as books of movies, little side journeys we didn't have time to see in the film, but get full detail in a book or game when it can take it's time 😀
