David Crosby was a fantastic song writer...nothing away from either Stills or Nash, but my Crosby brought this passion and "other worldliness" to everything they did. It was an incredible time, filled with its own passion, ecstasy and turmoil as well.
Esta versión me ha sorprendido , lo mejor que he escuchado y esa combinación descendente de la lira mientras ese supe-rbajo logra un efecto como nada igual!
oh the stress of choosing the 'best' version, they both compliment each other very well, they are just different, there now I must go and sit on the fence elsewhere TTFN
Remembering the great old days is painful simply because they were so freaking excellent- and so very very far gone. Only a memory and I dread the days I can't remember the greatest days this world will ever know. And THE greatest music there will EVER be.
First off let's start with the fact that you refer to people that recognize all the differences between this and the version that ended up on their album has purest. I'm not going to let you get away with flippantly using purest as a derogatory term. The differences in the song are Stark. There is an instrumental melody played over the intro on the album version is done with an acoustic guitar that sounds similar in tone to the guitar Crosby is playing in that great great open tuning I've never heard used anywhere else. and both guitars are in that tuningthat second guitar his present through the entire song and creates great counter motion to watch being played on Crosby's guitar. The guitar tone itself reflex the great Martin guitar sound with all of its booming us and mid-range overtones far better than this version. And the harmonies are stunning. I can't emphasize that enough. Nobody had ever heard three part harmony from singers where you could make out the individual character in their voices and yet when they came together on a harmonised long tone It sets off the overtones in the room and this just Pitch Perfect. On this version, you cannot compare be " free" in " she shall be free" the way it's done on this recording. And this recording he just holds the note. On the album version, two voices descend through the cord while Crosby sustains the single note. The effect made my head spin. And each time they come back to the instrumental lead into the verse you can hear starkly the difference between one guitar that's on this version and the two guitars that's on the other version. Crosby's vocal performance on this one is not as good and they must have used a completely different microphone because the sound of his voice is so much Fuller on the original version. If they had put this version on the album the difference in studios microphones and recording techniques used on the rest of Out the album would have made this stand out like a sore thumb. Jack Cassidy's bass part mostly just cover notes already being played in the guitar parts. His attempts to create counter-movement and you slide Justice from the magic that lays in the David Crosby guitar part. And I hear some kind of Rhythm track in the background the sounds like it was played on a suitcase. This isn't total crap but I would just encourage you to go back and listen to the CSN version of it again prove good speakers or a good set of headphones. Do not do it on your cell phone. Lo-Fi remixes and people who listen to music was cell phones and small speakers miss out on the artist intent. In a way it's a shame Neil Young's attempts to recreate High Fidelity didn't turn out to be commercially viable. A lot of us old enough to know the Golden Age of rock and roll also had High Fidelity component stereos that way would continually upgrade a little bit at a time. Of course, there's nothing better than a really good set of headphones. That entire CSN album is a Sonic Wonder recording achievement that I'm not sure has ever Been equaled. And I forgot to mention one more difference. Change of Tempo can reinvent a song. And even though the tempo on the CSN album is only slightly slower than this version it matters
Oh I totally love this version. Even more than the original. Wrath me. I want to mention that it's a little confusing, especially for anyone new to this beautiful song, that this song originally appeared on the album shown, but that this is a different version. It does say "unreleased demo," which is cool. Where'd you get it? It's just fantastic! But someone who just wandered over here might end up misinformed on this point. So perhaps you might consider changing the image in your video. Either way, thank you so much for posting this just incredibly beautiful version of this already beautiful song.
When the album cover was taken at a house in Van Nuys photographer Henry Diltz tried to correct the seating mistake. They went back and the house was torn down
Try to pick out David Crosby in this one! He really was young once (lots of us aren't now :) The Byrds - Turn! & Rhymney & Mr.Tambourine Man - 10/29/65
This sounds like the same alternate mix available on the David Crosby "Voyage" box set. The sound on the mix via CD is amazingly crisp compared to this though.
While singing this in North Carolina in about 1978, a guy in the audience kept interrupting Crosby, shouting "Rock and Rock, rock and Roll!" over and over again. So David stopped the song, turned around, and shouted at the top of his lungs "Shut the F*ck up!!" Anyway, no, I don't prefer this version.
awesome version.
That's the legendary Jack Casady on bass - his touch & tone is unmistakable.

I've loved this song for almost 50 years. Never heard this "alternative" version until now -- it's almost as good as the album cut!
You and me both! It will ALWAYS be one of "the" most fabulous, excellent songs ever done.
May David Crosby Rest In Peace.....An immensely talented man !
i was named after this song, love it, and i have green eyes. lol
amazing bass guitar performed by Jack Casady
appears from Jefferson Airplane.

DAM I MISS THE OLD DAYS. THEY WENT SO FAST.

Beautiful version!! Nice guitar work.
I might incur the wrath of CSN purists, but I prefer this version. It's so beautiful it makes me cry

Yeah. No
Carbon crank you're right change of tempo is the biggest problem here
This must be the demo version. Crazy cool!

I noticed right away that it was different from the one I'm used to.

You got that right brother
The original version was just David on 12 string electric guitar and Graham singing harmony....
Try to pick out David Crosby in this one! He really was young once (lots of us aren't now :)
The Byrds - Turn! & Rhymney & Mr.Tambourine Man - 10/29/65
It's the original album release version.
a band it was......
cool...
I think I prefer the other version largely because of the harmony vocals by Graham....

It seems like my days are running together now
But I am not scared just a little nervous
my girlfriend is genny and i love her and she is beautiful!!

Do you have a link to this video?

cette version superbe aussi n'est pas sur cet album en cover ...cette version postée est plus rapide
I think this is from an early demo of the song.
turn, turn, turn?
@luvtotruck when i followed up on that i was expecting to hear a 10/10. It was better... 0.0
Do you draw pentagrams? I hope not...
There is power in the Pentagram
This is NOT the album version. You really should not feature the album cover as a graphic when the music is not from the album.
it skips horribly
