I love Thai food. It is always at the top of my list when we are choosing where to go eat or take out. Because of that, I've started to notice something. There are a LOT of Thai food places. In fact, they are popping up in more and more places. Don't get me wrong, I love the options and it makes it super easy to find my favorite dishes whenever the cravings hit me. What I want to know though, is why Thai food restaurants seem to be competing with Starbucks for most restaurants in an area. Well Theorists, I think it's time to do some eating - I mean RESEARCH!

No joke, this happened to my cousin. He went on a vacation to Thailand with his best friend quote: "to get a real taste of the food and culture there"
He always loved the food and spend like 3 weeks backpacking around eating and stuff
And how did he like the spiciness?

This is what I call recognizing the value of an asset and capitalizing on it. The Thai government knows that their country has a unique, diverse cuisine, and giving people around the world a chance to experience it would predispose them to an increased interest in Thai-related things.
Thailand deserves to have its gastronomy on the map. It's delicious, and they are shrewd for having promoted it so effectively.
Very true! He acts like it's a conspiracy but really it's just spreading the information that it's good, not trying to deceive people into thinking it's good. The thai strategy is brilliant and friendly.

I'd never really eaten Thai food before that trip but we wanted to go for all the ruins, elephants and beaches. Ever since our trip, I've been a huge fan of authentic Thai cuisine because it's awesome!
I literally made Thai fried rice and while at an American Asian store, I asked a lady that was getting the Thai ingredients on my list for help, and was able to make something that was very close to my favorite Thai restaurants rice. Now I'm craving Thai, thanks mat
It's good that they "standardize" how the food should be, otherwise, you'll see peanut sauce in Panang curry, or peanut sauce Pad Thai found in those so called "Thai" restaurants , but owned by non-Thais.

I live in a really small area in Washington, like super small (the closet Walmart is almost an hour away, 10,000 person population) but we have 3 THAI RESTAURANTS in our local downtown when we only have like 20 restaurants total and there's a whole program at the highschool to get kids to go to Thailand. Thai restaurants are the most effective advertisement campaign for the country. No need of unnecessary spending on Tourism, just let others taste your food. They will surely come for authentic source. Smart people. 😎
Just imagine, they can fulfil their two dreams together, helping the birth country financially and living in abroad with stable income.
I'm so happy to see my town being mentioned as the main example. It made me smile. We are such a small town and when a friend says "let's get Thai food" the common response is "from where". Also thank you theorist crew for not calling us not part of the US.

Soft power is hella scary. Just think about how much anime has affected art and entertainment outside japan. In fact, the anime Outbreak Company literally talked about this.
Anime and video games are ironically one of the largest sectors of Japan's economy for what is the third largest economy.
American soft power has been going strong for almost a century, the world would become culturally homogeneous if we didn't have countries like Japan, South Korea, and Thailand to actually try to export their culture.
As powerful as the Chinese are becoming, all they culturally do is imitate the U.S. Americans and Soviets, they cannot culturally Innovate. Meanwhile countries like Vietnam is storming TikTok, India is exporting its films, and South Korea its music. We don't need an exclusively American world where everyone wears cowboys hats and greets everyone with "Howdy partner", if I wanted that I'd move to China.
Not everything is about Japan freaking weeb shi
Don't forget how manga was influenced by American comics left behind in Japan after WWII

Thai cuisine can never be compared as it has already won all of the tastes that you could never imagined it existed on your taste buds. No wonder why many locals dishes from Thai culinary are being adapted, adjusted & copied internationally.
Thailand is definitely a place to be for real foodies lover out there wether at professional levels or not.
You will be surprised on how marvelous Thai cuisine has renaissance throughout time, even till dates - where most Thai just seem to take on food tasting or food technology ashore as any other common hobbies.
This is probably why Thailand never failed to to surprised the world kitchen with new amazing taste exhibitions and always provides us with fantastic innovation of delicious new dishes year after year.
Thai food is one of my favorite types of food right next to Indian and South Korean. I went to a high school that was literally directly across the street from a Thai restaurant that mainly focused on noodle dishes and my friend asked to go there with me for lunch one day and we both had the chicken pad thai and it immediately became a regular place for us and thus began my love for Thai food. Most times if I’m in a new city I find the best rated Thai place and eat there to compare from other Thai restaurants I’ve been to. And I’ve expressed the desire to go to Thailand specifically for the food culture for years now. Of course I wanna go for the beautiful scenery, nature, and rich culture but mostly for the food lol. I’ve been successfully manipulated by the Thai government and I’m not even mad about it.
“Food is a unique outlet for cultural expression” he says as I bite into a pizza-bagel.
What
@@mirzantp4663 You take a bagel, often covering the middle hole with a pepperoni slice (though I've used deli-sliced ham, salami, and various cheese to various levels of effect), slather sauce (again, standard of tomato/pasta/pizza sauce) on it, and cover with cheese (typically mozzarella).
Or he could be referring to the actually-commercial product, such as "Bagel Bites". Which is the same thing as described, only sold premade in the frozen-foods section.
Bagels are associated with being a Jewish food, but I looked it up and supposedly they specifically come from Jewish people from Poland. I think maybe that explains the salmon? I dunno I am not trying to argue or anything I just thought it was interesting.

My family is from the Philippines, so the import of products from SE Asia has been a boon to me and my family as well as it's made many ingredients more accessible or less expensive than they might have been in the past, or we don't have to settle for a lesser substitute because our Asian grocery carries many pantry staples as well as veg/fruit items that the normal grocery doesn't. I just rewatch this and realise some thing, 6:17 that is no galangal that's ginger.
There's no shame in eating mild food. You can take the chilli out of a tom yum but keep all the other herbs and ingredients it's still gonna taste good. I think what he meant was the different ingredients used as subtitute might not give the food the same kick as the OG ones not necessarily the spiciness of the food
"My Name is Andong" just did a video on this subject as well.
U don't even have a single video on your channel.
@@Abhuab Look up the name in quotations, he wasn't talking about himself
@@Abhuab bruh.
Wild. My dad’s old job took him to Fairbanks a lot and I remember him talking about the quantity of Thai restaurants. Makes so much sense now!
Good Thai food is awesome! By far one of my fav international foods. I would not call the dulling of spicy totally changing it, it is like chili, different heat levels but still chili.
I’m Thai and I have been living in the UK for 13 years. Every day, I miss Thai food especially street Thai foods. Of course I miss my mum and dad too. Thai people when they cook Thai food is like a piece of art.
You'd think I might feel duped, and maybe I am, because this video only makes me want to buy even more Thai food to ensure that Thailand's efforts are successful so that I can eventually just go grocery shopping for some freakin' Thai basil.
This comment is so cute haha.
My god, same. Took way too long for me to find Thai basil
Bruh Asian grocer should just be an isle at every grocery store, I always have to take two stops to get ingredients I want, and I don’t even cook particularly Asian food
Thai person here
*I feel happy knowing ppl like our food*
I love this comment
I think it's finally Thai-me I expressed how much I love puns
Edit: I commented this before I watched the whole thing
I cry now
Wow nice shout out to Fairbanks where I'm stationed. I noticed a lot of Thai restaurants, didn't think it would make it into your video. Lol 🤙🏽
This is literally how I plan my vacations...."where do they have good food" or food rich cultures
