"I've never been to a Taco Bell and seen more than two cars in line."
Clearly you've never been to a Taco Bell next to a college after 6 pm.
Or one when the bars closed.
Or in a rural town where its only competition is McDonalds and Vons
I never seen a Taco bell in my country
I've never been in a taco bell line that hasn't had less that 10 cars in front of me tibstart out with. I've had almost 15 at one time. Taco bells anywhere where I've been have always been jammed pact. This is such a cool idea.
I was about to comment almost the same thing, except nearly the whole time they're open they have at least five cars in the Drive-Thru, and at either peak times, or almost any time after 4, the line extends onto the road outside the parking lot.

Kinda want to try that cool-looking Taco Bell. On the other hand, I've had a lot of bad experiences with drive-through. As in, give your order, get told to drive to the window, then get asked what you ordered. Not to mention driving away to find out later that it still isn't what you asked for.
issue of having minimum wage dropout workers to run a complex system
I went to a Taco Bell recently, where they only had one or two staff, and it took forever to get my meal - and when I got it home, it was the wrong one!
OTOH, they didn't charge me for the meal, because it took so long to get, so it would be churlish to complain…

“I’ve personally never been to a Taco Bell with more than 2 cars in line” MatPat has clearly never been waiting in line at 12am for 30 minutes to get a Baja blast freeze
Yep. Between 10pm and 1am on Friday and Saturday, I could wait up to 40 minutes for my taco bell.
I’ve waited for an hour at 6pm but that’s probably because I’m lazy and don’t wanna drive to Taco Bell and use grubhub
@Alaura Glasco haha I live by a popular campus in Louisiana and it all closes late but the lines are still traffic hazards
The Taco Bell by me is pretty much always busy too lol. People love to hate on it, but it's just good.

My thought: tocobell would have to team up with multiple company's to make this work, most will probly not want to team up with tocobell becues tocobell would get most of the money. How ever if most to all other company's pitched in thair products thair would be a fe for having to go through tocobell to distribute, meaning everything that the company produces would go up in price, becues it's going up in price with multiple brands and company's everything else would go up to , to keep the economy working properly, other wise if they don't alot of people won't be able to get everyday necessities. And if they do put alot of money into nesisties and have a lower paying job they could go homeless meaning if this really did happen, we would see middle class and lower class families and people become homeless or struggle alot more , and we already struggle with it, it would be high class stays high class low class stays low class no more middle class, economy would take a hit, considering the low class wouldnt be able to pay into this so only the rich would keep the economy working , so basicly looking at becomeing a somewhat Korea if this happends and becomes wide spread. Or tocobell can be nice and just never make brands and other company's pay a fea to go through them.😁👏💛❤
Wow that would be funny
@@savannahpetrovic5495 Well they've already got KFC and Pizza Hut covered.

I'm pretty sure I've been in long taco bell lines before the pandemic
I love a lot of things about this concept. Have you ever had a family get together where everyone wants food from a different restaurant? Yeah, me too. What I really dislike about this is the lack of options for pedestrians and bicycles. Maybe if one of those lanes were a walk up lane? My local Starbucks has a long driveway, a window and a small, outdoor eating area. I would prefer to see more of that and less car only options.
Yeah, but sadly I doubt this will happen, since there just isn't good enough infrastructure for those modes of transport for them to make it posiible to order without a killing machine.
How you talk and keep the attention of people is what I love about this channel more then the food subjects. You deliver a topic like a boss and easy to keep up with
"Taco bell can get you your order in 15 seconds!"
"Can't tell you how!"
Me: You deleted 40% of your menu items.
That's only like a third of the answer. The truth is that they're just not. The expectations on fast food workers are pretty much unachievable unless the customer only orders a combo or a couple items. Most places trick the timing system by asking the customer to back up or park. So the order isn't actually finished quicker, the systems for tracking the speed of service are being tampered with.
The other part of the answer is that they’re making more of the items in such a way that there are less parts to put together. For instance if they make all the ground beef the same no matter which thing you order all they gotta do is pop some meat in the microwave for a few seconds and voila... taco or burrito, or nachos. They’ve also eliminated ingredients so there’s less to put together in that respect as well. If they don’t sell it then you can’t ask for extra of it. I’m sure some restaurants even have some items premade knowing the average of people daily who ask for each thing and only make more when they’re running low. It’s not like people really expect healthy, fresh food at a fast food joint.
When I worked at Wendy's 15 seconds per order was the goal. Anything more than 20 seconds per order (from the customer finishing their order to you handing them their food) and you were in trouble with corporate. We could meet that 15 second time during rush hours.
@@MissLilyputt I'm going to assume you have never been inside of a Taco Bell, 'cause their kitchens are wide open to the dining area. The meat is cooked off site, it comes refrigerated or frozen (not sure, I've never worked at one, but when they are moving them around they are not frozen) which they then warm in a hot water bath. They then put the warm meat on the line and scoop as necessary. The need to use a microwave to heat meat would only slow things down.
Taco Bell has always been efficient in regard to the process of making the food, everything is right there ready to scoop/grab (and already warm if necessary) or in a gun. The biggest slow down has always seemed to be the employees, trying to remember the way you make all the items in the massive menu. Which is likely where any time save has come from, trimming down the menu as a lot of fast food places seem to be doing right now, though it has been like a year since I have been at a Taco Bell so I'm not sure there.
It is also possible they have added more grills (if that is what they call those) or have less items on the menu that need them because of the focus on drive thru, that is the other slow point to the process.
And as the other person said, you can always play with the numbers.
@@michaelb1761 dang! Which Wendy's did you work at?!
In a small town like mine we dont have very many options so every drive thru is wrapped around the building. I love the bank style taco bell

I have a McDonald’s and a Burger King near my house with both of them having records for being some of the worst restaurants that the brands can offer.
Just going to clarify something here.
Krispy Kreme is never going to use ghost kitchens. Aside from cake doughnuts which they have trade secret recipes for anyways, they use air pressure to force dough out through a mold that causes either a ring or shell shape. This is how their ring doughnuts always come out in such a perfect shape (the shells will too, if the mold is in good shape, which they never were when I worked there). Krispy Kreme uses highly specialized equipment that only they produce, so copying their design is nigh impossible, making them very secure in their methods.
A single driver delivering multiple orders simultaneously is an impossible task when it’s next to impossible to deliver a single order without the food cooling down.

In a small city mostly populated by large fwd vehicles you think it would be in the best interest of the fast food places to design their drive throughs accordingly. This video reminded me that Service Merchandise department store, catalog-showroom retailer, was way ahead of its time.
In this department store you shopped by looking at display items with codes attached to them. You would then write down the codes for all the items you wanted to buy and turn it into a cashier to order and pay for it.
They would then give you a receipt and you would go to the back of the store and wait for your items to come down a conveyor belt.
I think that if Service Merchandize stuck around they could have utilize mobile ordering and the drive through dumbwaiter system.
They also should have beaten out Amazon for selling merchandise if they did not go under due to bankruptcy in 2002. They should get a video their own somewhere.

I will say, the biggest issue I have with drive-throughs is the lack of time I can comfortably browse the menu for non-pictured items and their prices, which I'm sure is by design. It's probably just my social anxiety, but I know the workers get blamed for slow d-t orders and I get so annoyed when someone takes more than 30 seconds to finish ordering, so I don't want to do that to the ppl behind me.
I always wondered why the menu boards are AFTER the talk box, not before it. Like, do they assume I am such a devotee of their establishment that I've memorized the menu? For this reason I'd usually go inside, just so I could browse the menu in peace.
I wish there was a separate drive thru for people to browse the menu, and then order.

Everything is weird when looking from an angle.
Ikr
Which in it's self is funny cuz it hardly makes it fast if you need to go to your car to to the store get out of the car walk in wait to order wait to get the order walk to the table then eat then go back to your car then go home.
Oh, god. It feels good
"never been to taco bell with more than 2 cars in line". MattPatt has clearly never been to the midwest
I feel this on SO MANY levels.
Or, for some randomly odd reason, in the middle of nowhere in Canada (really weird day)
I’ve never been to a Taco Bell with less than 2 cars in line
ive never been to taco bell with out the line wrapping through the parking lot and into the road no joke
I'm in Chicagoland and two cars at the two TBs in my area would be extraordinarily busy. I stopped going to them because the service is HORRIBLE.
3:35 same thought. I wanna see tubes of burritos.
I’ve seen lines out to the roads at Taco Bell almost every night after bars close 😂
Imagine getting a shoe in your happy meal and the cashier says:”oops we got your order mixed up with someone else’s”
As someone who lives in Minnesota, there's rarely a time, especially during covid, where there isn't at least 4 cars in a taco bell drive-thru. There have been times where there's a line out into the parking lot
As a fellow Minnesotan, I can say its true
Also that taco bell is literally in my city wtf
@@JemsXiong low key wish I lived there just to go through that restaurant
This is true.
Honestly, as a person from Minnesota I just assumed everyone liked taco bell as much as we do...
4:05 Outside of cities you'd be surprised. Out towards Pittsburgh where my sister lives, the closest Taco Bell was an hour away. One opened up in town and I've never seen it not-busy
I live pretty much right by it. And you are completely right how the food drops through a tube. It's quite weird but cool.
The taco bell by my house normally has lines around the block, and that was even before the pandemic hit. They would probably benefit from a 4 lane drive through.
Yeah same
Same, my go to Taco Bell usually has a line. I think it's one of the more popular fast food restaurants around.
i mean mine wraps around the building , Propably doesn't hurt that it's like a block away from a college
Yup same up where i live. Not unusual to see 40+ cars wraping up the block to get in at lunch or dinner hours.
4 lanes would not be a full benefit if they can not keep up with the order demand. They would also run the risk of fulfilling a ton of small orders while letting the bigger ones sit because it's faster. I know that my employees would not be able to handle 4 lanes, they can't even take the orders on 1 without letting them sit for 20 seconds before taking the order.
The chicken and steak cheesy gordita crunch are my favorite things from taco bell, but up here in Alaska, they are super expensive
Incredible video man and have a good day everybody :]
The pandemic: permanently changing society forever
Everybody: *this is fine.*
Its not but people don't know how to have a normal society. Future "mostly on line." people will have way low birth rates. It already at record lows pre pandemic and its gonna get worse. Upside Amish and the like are having babies galore .
I think it's a bit more like everyone going "Well, I'm not sure we can exert much control over this so it's fine, I guess?"
Meh what to do. Everyone's depressed and the world's burning. Sometimes literally. Nothing to do but dance on the ashes as the fire burns you alive.
Well if society is changing its bc the people are wanting and causing change, so it makes sense people are fine with it
Not really...
I feel like someday MatPat's going to be sued by all of these companies, or hired, one of the two
Hired, makes theories about what's ~really~ going on in the resteraunt and sued.
He’ll probably make a theory on which one will come first
Why not both?
