You have inspired me to do SO many hands-on projects with my boys ages 10 and 13. They need to keep their hands busy. I have a big shopping list already from A Child’s Dream. I want to teach them knitting and sewing. I also ordered a beeswax candle making kit from Brambleberry, I make. Bar soap so we will be making soap and I ordered rolled beeswax candles from a Waldorf supplier on Etsy. I’m also getting the boat kits from A Child’s Dream. Their academics are important but I want them to be kept busy learning handwork and building things. So very important. Oh! We are going to make butter, candied orange peels and and we are making bread with another homeschooling family today. I’m so excited!!!! Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions. YES to the playsilks for all ages! In fact, we have noticed that the baskets of silks and the wooden blocks and stackers get played with by all ages, even picked up by the adults who visit our home. There's just something about those natural materials that are so inviting and wonderful. Thanks for sharing!
Yes!! And why shouldn't adults partake in the wonders of creative play...with or without kids ;) We tend to look at the perks the younger children have when they have older siblings, but one of the biggest perks older siblings enjoy is being able to play with toys longer than what would be acceptable by their peers because they have younger siblings.

I didn't know this was an official schooling. I've been raising my grandkids like this already. I found Waldorf style yesterday and researched it for 6 hours. The only keeping me from doing it is the cost of supplies. But I love it. Best thing I've ever seen.
RachelTeeKae what a beautiful thing you are doing raising your grandchildren. I hope your journey is rewarding. Yes, the supplies are pricey, but they last a long time so end the end I feel they're worth it.
Pepper and Pine I know! I love those supplies more than any I've seen. My friend has sheep, and she has some leftover wool from last spring. We are going out this weekend to get some. I found some tools that are used to making things like wool balls and they were my great grandmothers. So I really want them to experience doing that. My problem is I am on disability and I have no income. So, I try to use things around we find from nature and thrift stores, but the things you show here are a homeschoolers dream. ❤️

Oh my the nutcracker is so gorgeous, I just like to hold it and admire its beauty. I hope you end up ordering one because I hear they are seasonal and A Child's Dream runs out of stock every year. Oh I hear you about expensive hobbies. I'm only sorry, not sorry! Hehe, but really, these handwork crafts serve so many purposes, it's worth it!
I think you mentioned in the video that your daughter is 6 years old. does not Waldorf start 1st grade at age 7?
Beside that, I would like to comment about a couple of things I used from the Waldorf philosophy and they really helped me in my homeschooling. So, first I can't really follow the whole Waldorf philosophy; it is too structured for me :). Also, I like reading from books rather than telling the story myself. But some ideas really worked great with my kids. First, the block and stick crayons. They really loved the quality of the crayons. I did not think that it would make sure a difference with them. So, that was a huge plus to our homeschool. Second, using the main lesson books. The idea of using empty drawing sheets to do the lessons, including drawing, narration, and copywork made it very easy. My son loves to make his own drawings from the stories we read but my daughter loves to follow what I draw (he is 7 and she is almost 6). She uses the stick crayons to follow me in drawing the letters ( I know that Waldorf curriculum does not do that at this young age but she likes really to do that with me). It makes it less frustrating for her and her letter formation is way much better. Third, mixing different subjects together. I find it less frustrating to teach for example LA while doing a history topic. Also, covering a certain subject for a couple of weeks help them be more focused. Fourth, incorporating drawings in teaching lessons. Adding colors and drawings to a lesson that we do make it more fun and enjoyable. I have to be honest that we do not do our own drawings but we copy drawings from stories that we are reading. I try to simplify the drawings so not to make it hard form them to draw. I do not use Waldorf based stories though; we just draw from any book that we are reading from. The downside is that I feel all of that takes a lot of time to finish. I have to plan my day ahead of time to make sure I have enough time to finish a lesson.
Sorry for the long comment but I just wanted to highlight that even though I do not follow the philosophy still some aspects could be used in some way or another :)
What great ways you are incorporating Waldorf-inspired techniques into your homeschool! Thank you for sharing them. Language arts will naturally be found in other subject areas, so it works well to use that in teaching what would normally be taught in Language Arts workbooks or extra assignments. Especially in a Waldorf format, since there are not workbooks, you'll be writing almost daily so it's good to take advantage of that to increase your skills in grammar and writing. Focusing on one subject area for a period of time seems to work really well for a lot of people and yet there's still room devoted to smaller lesson daily.
You're right, she's six. We won't be starting the first grade curriculum until next year or late in the year after she turns seven, though I really don't mind delaying even further. We'll be doing some form drawing in the next couple months though. There were quite a bit of things in the video we'll be doing now and did last year like rolling and dipping candles, felting (which isn't a craft for kids until 10-12 years old, but my daughter sees me doing it and copies), using watercolors and crayons for art, playing with pegs dolls, finger puppets and play silks, etc.

Hello Krystina! I don't have videos of first grade yet, but I can post previous main lesson books in a separate video. Eventually, I'll have videos on how we do our main lessons for first grade, but I'm not diving into first grade yet with my daughter. I'll be doing KG for several months before easing into first grade.

Do you find the stockmar “red” watercolor to be frustrating? I have used it for a couple years now with my kids and we can never manage to get anything even close to “red”, the color runs so far towards magenta that it is unusable for mixing to make oranges, rusts, and even many browns get thrown off by it, not to mention just trying to get a nice red tone for painting fall leaves is impossible. Do you find yours to be very pink/magenta or did I maybe get a bad batch? They last forever so I haven’t replaced them yet, we just use other watercolors for anything involving orange, red or brown.
I am currently waiting for our 1st and 5th grade live education curriculum to arrive. I am trying to find a good Grimm’s Fairytales book and you don’t have a link added. Would it make a difference which book we buy as I understand that some of the Grimm stories can be difficult to present to children if you don’t have a good book of the stories. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for your amazing videos😊

I don't have a tutorial on that. I think the kit came with directions. It's not as easy at you'd think it should be, but once you get the hang of it, it works well.
does your charter allow you to purchase these?
Yes, a lot of these materials were purchased through our charter school. It's not so straightforward though. I've been able to show how these materials are required by the curriculum. It's more challenging with the younger grades, but it gets easier in the upper grades because the materials resemble more traditional materials. Are you with a charter school?
