    I’ve owned an MY22 Sportage SX Diesel for 11 months now and the car remains fresh and durable. Performance and comfort levels are top notch with above average handling - it’s a good drivers car on the open road and very nimble around the city. The only criticism is the cruise control which wanders around the set speed, but its tolerable. I also worked out how to turn down the cabin alert beeps and turn them off quickly when needed. I got a tow bar and the diesel tows with ease and dignity. I do a lot of highway driving and regularly average around 5.5 L fuel per 100km. There is plenty of power to spare with the Diesel, it’s smooth, effortless, relatively quiet and responsive. The 8speed torque converter automatic is a perfect match, as smooth as butter. I’m extremely happy with my Sportage it’s a winner!

      How effective is radar cruise control. If you keep it in auto pilot mode in heavy traffic road, does it breathe to hard and starts abruptly or is is very smooth

    Because of you Paul I bought a Sportage GT line Diesel. Thank you. Have had it for 6 months and I’m blown away by it.
    I’ve been driving for 60 years, a Vauxhall, Holdens to many to say , a Volvo, 5 Jaguar’s, Citroen and Mercedes.
    Not surprised 2022 COTY.

    Ordered our Gravity Grey Sportage GT Line Diesel about 2 weeks after launch in November 2021. Delivered here in Brisbane in May 2022 and have since covered around 14,500km since. Originally was sold on either the new Outlander or Outback but after test driving the Sportage diesel found it to be streets ahead of everything else driven to date. Space, technology, practicality, comfort and performance are an absolute perfect combination for us. It's ageing well, no issues to date and absolutely no regrets about buying. The competitors with their NA petrol CVT's are just a really average driving experience when compared to this. Although used mainly for a 20km semi-rural each way commute we've done a number of trips to the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Hervey Bay etc and has been absolutely perfect in every way. Happy I purchased at launch pricing though ... =) We recently returned from a trip to the UK and saw the naff looking short wheelbase. It looks cut off and awkward and doesn't flow like our long version. Good call, Kia Australia !

    Got the My23 sportage sx with the 2.0 petrol. Not the most powerful engine but if you're driving at the speed limit it does way more than enough. Plenty of room, enough features for the average person and rides really comfortably. Best in class when we tried them and there was one in stock so we bought it and couldn't justify the price hike to the SX+

    • @iamainnocentkid
      @iamainnocentkid Před 9 měsíci +1

      We literally have the same model as you. Bought it last year in October. Barring the weak engine, everything is perfect. SX provides the best value for money as it has the perfect balances of features for the price.

    • @ronaldov09
      @ronaldov09 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Its not about driving at the speed limit, try overtaking a truck/caravan etc with a car full of kids and luggage/camping gear etc...terribly slow and dangerous. If you dont do this then its not an issue but for many it is, hence why they test the 80-120.

      I drove a base rental base model, I think a non turbo 1.6 litre 26 valve petrol engine that ran 91 octane alcohol mix fuel. I drove to Currutha Beach, all up around 400km, and got about 8.3 litres/100. The base engine was fine around town, but on the highway, it would change down frequently going up hills. The car had a full tank, plus about 225 kg of "ballast" (my wife and myself plus luggage). I was astonished how quiet the car was, and how well it handled. I reckon bigger engines, especially the diesel, would not handle as well. I don't think overtaking is dangerous with a lack of power - it all comes down to the driver. One can always pull out ... and with speed laws, overtaking at over the speed limit, is still against the law (although it should not be) - but it is. I found the car very quiet, and found the electronic packages effective, and surprisingly, the alarms did not irritate me. The base model had hard plastic door armrests, and the seats were not very adjustable, with some more adjustment they would have been decent seats. For around town the base model seemed very good value to me.

    Had the previous model. Went to the rav4 for some additional boot space. This seems to address that shortcoming. I do recall servicing was expensive. Way more than the rav4. But overall, I think this Sportage is a better car than the RAV. Just gotta decide whether I want to go back to a diesel.

      The 2.0 TD engine is excellent, no substitute for torque. This is combination with the 8-speed torque converter gearbox, it's a winner in my opinion.

    I ordered my GT Line diesel in February last year. Unfortunately the dealer did not have the GT Line for a road test when I bought it (only the SX) so I bought it blind relying on the SX test drive and reviews such as your previous ones. Have owned it for just over three months. Here are my thoughts after owning it for a while including some long country trips.
    Positives - good torquey engine/economy. Excellent ride/handling (let down by the steering - more on that later), nice dash instrument panel. Headlights are great. Love the sunroof operation.
    Negatives - for a top line model the interior is sparse with the bleak funereal black interior with no contrasting highlights. Unfortunately Kia treats the Australian market pretty bad as it doesn't offer the nice contrasting trim colour options as they do in overseas markets. Also for a top line model there are too many hard plastics in the interior and very little upmarket features like temp controls for rear passengers, very poor stereo sound despite the fancy brand (again hardly what you'd expect in a $60k car and surprisingly none of your testers have called this out), seat cushions that are too short making them uncomfortable on long trips, very poor steering with little road feel and hardly any precision at straight ahead (it actually has a bit of play) which is at odds with it's good handling (it's almost as if the steering was designed for a different chassis). It has an extremely large turning circle - I actually thought it was a fault - I need to do three point turns where my previous much larger 4wd Jeep Grand Cherokee could do a u turn, again surprising none of your testers have noted this. The aircon is not great, it barely copes with 35+ days we've had here with the sun shining unless you put it on auto or turn the fan right up both of which makes it a noisy experience.
    So it is basically a good family car but hard to believe it was car of the year. The GT line in particular is overpriced for what it is. I probably won't be keeping the Kia more than a year as as I no longer get much enjoyment from driving it. I just don't know what to get next. I'd go back to a Jeep Grand Cherokee in a heartbeat but they are way more expensive now and the diesel is no longer available.

    Paul, my family drives a GT-Line diesel, and it's a beautiful cosseting long driver.
    All up, the car excellent, but it has two less than stellar characteristics
    1. The Harmon Kardon system is probably the worst audio system I've ever had. I've driven in budget cars with 4 Speaker systems that have better bass, mid range and treble. Absolutely dreadful and no fiddling of the dials improves things.
    2. Android Auto connectivity is woeful. The dealers know it's a problem, but have no fix. Carplay is better, but still disconnects from time to time.

    Hi Paul,
    Some constructive criticism if I may. One of your worst car reviews; you're clearly not a fan of the Sportage or your mind was elsewhere?
    The 0 - 100km/h time of 8.5s means nothing in isolation; vs your Tesla it's slow; yes! How does it compare to the competition in this segment. How is it vs a RAV-4 hybrid, Mazda CX5 diesel or a Sportage 1.6T? A good comparison will be a Sportage hybrid vs the RAV-4 hybrid, when Kia launches early 2024.

    In the early days of Holden they advertised that their cars were tuned for Australian roads. This piece of marketing still seems to live on with motoring journalists. I've been to many countries on a variety of continents, and I still can't see what makes Australian roads more special than another place in the world? I also don't feel that our roads are worse than other places in the world. Maybe German Autobahns are in another category, but most countries roads are not as pristine as their residents would like.

    • @CarExpertAus
      @CarExpertAus  Před 9 měsíci +5

      It’s the variety of road conditions we have that these cars need to cater for. There is very noticeable difference between cars tuned for Australia and those tuned for other countries. Most noticeable are Korean, Chinese and Indian brands.
