I'm in my 50s, I grew up in the US during the cold war, and over the past decade I met many people from the former soviet union. My conclusion, after talking with many people and having lived this long, through the cold war like I have, and observing politics and society in the US for so many years, and then comparing that to the childhoods of people from other countries including the USSR, is this: we've been lied to. They have been lied to too, but in the US we like to imagine we always took the high moral ground, that we always had it better, and that we were always being fed the truth, that we were always right and they were always wrong. This is simply not true in every circumstance. We were given the conclusion and not the evidence. What is true, I feel now, is there is big money in perpetual conflict. That it is a great way to extract money from the working class. Keeping people afraid is keeping them controlled, and new boogie men are always being created for this reason.
But also f all these fake populists like Trump, Tucker, RFK Jr and all the rest who feed people nothing but lies, conspiracies, and disinformation. They’re dangerous. F them too.
Tucker has also decided that identifying as a white nationalist embracer of authoritarianism will give him a big audience. So that’s what he’ll be.
Tucker gives a microphone to LOTS of people who hate Jews, hate Ukraine, hate America, and hate black & brown people. He gives a microphone to LOTS of people who love Putin, love the world’s other dictators, & love white nationalism. But Tucker just asks questions, rite?

It was bad. He didn’t ask relevant questions - he didn’t ask anything about coming “fake elections” in Russia, all candidates who don’t support war was illegally excluded from elections. Nothing about his assassinations and poisoning attempts. That “leadership requires killing” isn’t serious argument. Name me one president from western democratic countries who murder their political opponents across the world? Putin usurped Russia since 2000 - total dictatorship, you can’t criticize Putin and war - if you do you get literally jailed.
Did he asked anything about that? Nothing. The only valuable questions were “Why you invaded Ukraine” and questions about Evan Gershkovich

I appreciate the impulses presented here. BUT it's not this simple. For example, the reason peace talks were halted was because Russia would only accept peace if they were given a large chunk of Ukraine. That was unacceptable to most people who advocate democracy as well as peace. It was not that people WANTED WAR, they just could not accept the compromises needed. Also, if Putin says he will stop attacking, he will just find reasons to come back later for more.

I am opposed to religions running governments, or even having influence in them. I don’t care which country that is, or what religion that is.
As an example, while I respect the people of Afghanistan’s choice, I feel saddened and concerned that their government is so religious. But…. I still want to understand them, I still want to hear about Afghanistan under their control and I still want them to be given a voice.
