I can't stop saying whoa Nelly when excited. I looked it up on where the term came from and brought me here. I should of known it was the goat announcer I've watched growing up. He had the best sayings.

I'm watching Florida vs Florida State 1996 right now, and it takes me back to such a good time when announcers announced! What they do today pales in comparison to this master. RIP KJ

He used the phrase in nearly every show while racing after the villains or rushing for help. Was a radio show before the tv show, 1944 to 1955.

Sorry but Dick Lane who worked for KTLA (Paramount Studios) was using that phrase a good decade before Keith Jackson even went on the air. Now Mr. Jackson may have heard the phrase from his grandfather but he was not the first to use it in sports announcing. That honor belongs to Dick Lane.
Some people deserved to live forever.

I agree, I remember as far back as 1948, Dick Lane slapping the fender of a used car at Fletcher Chevrolet. Great times to live in So Cal.
