    We went to visit Magnolia recently and ran across Baylor University. The campus from the exterior looked amazing and then we got home and did more research, saw videos, online tours, etc and it checked every box. Our oldest is turning 13 soon but we're already thinking on Baylor as a potential candidate university. Thanks for this video!

    What scholarship were you interning with? Also, does Baylor give a lot of financial aid? Is it hard being so far away from home?

    Does a job count as a volunteer/extracurriculars for Baylor? By the way, I got an 1130 on the SAT so I am not sure how I’ll fair in the admissions process…

    i’m transferring to baylor this month from Sac, CA and i’m so curious what the differences are between ca and tx! were there any differences u noticed such as culture shock, living expenses, etc?

    • @HaikaRose
      @HaikaRose  Před 2 lety +7

      OHMYGOSH YOU ARENT THAT FAR FROM WHERE I GREW UP !! I LOVE THIS !!
      I can go on about the differences forever but I will touch on the main ones that I have noticed (from my perspective growing up on the west coast).
      People are definitely more courteous here, not everyone obviously… but enough to where you will notice. I had to realize how common it is for people in the south to grow up learning manners and respect in a way that’s not valued or emphasized on the west coast.
      It’s definitely a part of the “Bible Belt” and you will find that there is a significant majority of people who identify as Christian here. It comes off a bit superficial here though sometimes… more so like it’s an “image” thing or a chase of an aesthetic lifestyle… rather than a true authentic lifestyle and relationship with God that is distinct for each individual. But if you are Christian and/or ideologically conservative, you will have an easier time expressing that here in TX.
      Life is definitely a lot more slower paced. People kind of go through the motions here and settle for an easy going life it seems like. Which is different from the more vibrant, dynamic and innovative nature I think CA has. CA definitely has a relaxed and chill nature too, but I also think it’s a lot more eccentric and spirited!
      I think lastly, (DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE) it can be less diverse. I use to not care about diversity in the slightest.. but one thing I miss about CA is that it was truly a state that embraced all different kinds of people backgrounds upbringings socioeconomic statuses etc. You fit in because you DONT fit in … you fit in because you are unique and an individual with a distinctive personality! Sometimes it feels like people are trying to fit in by acting like everyone else here in TX tbh 🤷🏿‍♀️. Like if you are different in any way… you will definitely feel like it.
      California is more naturally beautiful BY FAR ! You won’t find as many sights in TX as you would in CA.
      There seems to be a place for everyone here in TX, it just might be a bit harder to find. And obviously the standard of living is WAY lower than you will ever see in CA ! But it is on the rise unfortunately here in TX 😞.
      I hope that helped you please let me know if you have any questions ! 💗

      time to get serving 😘 ASAP !
      You still have time, but if it’s something you think is important to add to your portfolio when applying to college (in my opinion it is), you are going to need to put in a little more work since you only have 2 years instead of 4. It’s DEFINITELY possible, but it’s about how much work you are willing to put in. Drive and discipline will get you far :) ! And the more you serve, the more fulfilling it can be in general !

      Don’t lose hope ! Do your best in every area and EXCEL at the areas you thrive at (ESPECIALLY IN EXTRACURRICULARS AND VOLUNTEER SERVICE) so you can highlight those areas in your applications. May God be with you 🫶🏿
