Unlike several other EVs, Chevrolet Bolts and Volts are both limited to 12 amps maximum for level 1 charging.
As such, a more powerful 16 amp level 1 charger would also be limited to 12 amps, thereby not providing the full capability of up to 7 miles per hour of range that I can obtain on my 2022 Kona Electric.
In Ontario, Canada, where I live, I'm able to get up to 84 miles of total range overnight while charging during less costly, off-peak hours from 7 PM to 7 AM Mondays through Fridays and throughout entire weekends.
Like most people new to EVs, I had a very costly level 2 charger installed at my home prior to receiving my new Kona Electric.
Unfortunately, upon reflection, I should have waited for some time before having this level 2 charger installed since a 16 amp level 1 charger actually provides me more than enough range for my daily needs.
Only occasionally will I use my level 2 charger, set at a reduced charging rate of 16 amps to increase the longevity of my EV battery, since it performs better in very cold weather compared to level 1 EV charger while still giving me about 180 miles of range overnight when I need to travel a fairly long distance out of town.
Potential EV owners should perform their research in order to arrive at an informed decision to best serve their needs!
