I was mad when Penny gave up fame to be with her fake friends who literally admitted they wouldn’t have gave up the fame if it was them! Don’t see why Penny couldn’t find some authentic famous friends to be with rather than randoms Wizard Kelly hires.🙄
I would have called Wizard Kelly right back after they said that if I was her.

On that note, it's pretty rich when Disney criticizes issues like exploitation, greed, and unethical practice in the entertainment industry....
I think we gotta remember that the writers are still people who wanna tell stories that are impactful. Just because Disney signs their paychecks doesn't mean they shouldn't still tell these stories.
@@casseroledragon3277Oh no when I say Disney I don't mean the creatives who works for them. More like the suits in charge who foster toxic work environments and use their employees like work horses. I mean, the message isn't bad: just the fact it's coming from a shitty corporation is ironic to me.

The inner Penny arc of this episode, her becoming arrogant and acting like the leader and star of the group, was done in the first Cheetah Girls movie with Raven's character too. I think its interesting how Disney was such a fan of that storyline at that time.

That is SUCH a good point. And I agree. I'd rather be rich and unknown than famous and broke. The pressure to be a perfect person is too much! I couldn't even handle being the kid of a minister! All the PKs out there get it! So I can't even imagine being watched and gossipped about world wide... ESPECIALLY as a kid/teen.

To be honest, the pressure to be a perfect person is a thing even if you're not famous.
Sure it showed how ruthless record deals are, but once again shows how phony her friends are. The story would’ve been better if Penny’s friends or family saw what Wizard Kelly was actually doing behind the scenes and tried to save her.
Without a doubt this episode referenced Destiny's Child based on their conflict of being pitted against one another which is why Latoya & Latavia left & Michelle & Farrah coming on board which upset fans at the time. Beyonce was set up from the get go to be the lead vocalist, spokesperson of the group, & to be placed in the middle (the center figure). Destiny's Child was Beyonce's group. There was no equal opportunity for the former members to thrive into mainstream success & Matthew & Tina set it up that way.
I feel like had it been Dijonay or Laceniga they would have been the same way and would not return unless they got dropped because of low sales during their solo😭 what suga mama say…faker than your fake friends😂

True. Penny’s friends aren’t the best, but she also gave up her father who loves her dearly. And even though it wasn’t shown it still was a strong reason to go back to that old life.
I think it would have been better if she found new friends after going back to being a regular person.
The Music Industry will chew you up and spit you out in a heartbeat. Both of my parents taught me that from a young age. Dad was a Motown native and Mom grew up in Gary at the peak of the Jackson 5's run. Even if you become an Icon and get your Bag outside of the label, you can still end up a very bad way. This episode showed the dark underbelly of the life very well. As I've said before, in my opinion, The Proud Family can either hit or miss when they discuss heavier things. This episode knocked it out of the park. When I first saw this episode as a kid, it made me think of Destiny's Child and more specifically, Beyonce. DON'T come after me, Beyhive, okay? I am NOT saying she acted like Penny during their run but I'm sure the record label and her prick of a dad did everything to drive wedges as much as possible. And they were successful at times. That's what led to The Trio Era and everyone going Solo. I still wish that Penny had ended up dropping her "best friends" for good by the end of the original run sans Sticky. Although he had his Moments, he was the best of the bunch. There's also a solid case for Lacienega to stick around too because she never hid the fact that she was a Hater with a few redeeming qualities. I'd rather have an authentic frenemy than a bootleg friend any day. As for Zoey and Dijonay? Nah. Bye. If they did a character arc with Zoey getting and keeping a spine, it'd be a whole different thing. I can't say anything that hasn't already been said about Dijonay. Penny should've definitely left the Industry but if she wasn't gonna drop her fake friends, she should've stood up for herself more to the point they'd either change their behavior or leave. Penny deserved better and THEN the reboot doubled down with the phoniness with the returning cast while adding brand new characters to treat her like trash. It's so frustrating! Ugh. Anyways, great video as always, man. I really love your vibe and you have amazing Takes. I'm so glad the Almighty Algorithm helped me find you.

About the music industry, the record labels don't make you read the full contract. The label makes money off of you, and you get paid very little. Streaming services don't pay you enough. For 5k streams, you'll make $25-$50. Plus, you have to split royalties with the producers, fellow songwriters, etc.

This was the one episode of the proud family where I was super happy, yet hella pissed at the same time. Happy because this was one of the few times we actually got to see Penny's "friends" get exactly what's coming to them after being such assholes throughout the series,and I was eating up every bit of it! But pissed, because Penny gives it all up and goes back to them in the end. Granted she's no angel and by no means perfect, but as much as her friend group clown her in both the classic series and the reboot, they had the nerve to get bitter when it was their turn? Screeew THAT!
I'm glad that this episode showed the dangers of the entertainment industry, and to an extent now social media industry (tons of teens get famous from social media). It's already dangerous for adults, but it's so much more dangerous for youth. Youth with the spotlight and cameras on them don't get to have a normal childhood and relationships. Additionally, they can't consent and fully understand that they were signed up for this (I know their parents sign them up and there are child labor laws, but it's still dangerous).
No matter how people feel about Suga Mama, she was usually honest and said what needed to be said. Penny's friends are fake, and she shouldn't have to return to them. I'm positive Dijonay and LaCienaga would not have come back. I've always hoped that their dynamics would become more positive, especially with the reboot, but sadly that hasn't happened.
Omg I loved this episode. I remember understanding the message then, but shout out to the creators for calling out the deceptive ways of the music industry. They target our children the most and they were letting us know. ❤
This was one of my fav episodes too bc I love any time a show had original songs/bands in the show, there’s something I love about fake/parody musicians made for media

This episode was always one of my faves but it never registered just accurate it was about the industry. And as a child who wanted to be famous turned adult actor I can tell you its very spot on! Also I was so mad at Penny for giving up everything and going home. Like not you wanna be friends with the girls who always ditching and playing in your face 😭😭😭 just go get your daddy and bring him to the mansion please 😭😭😭😂😂

I understand this topic is important for people to learn about, but it really annoys when a character goes through the whole now that I'm famous and have money I'm now a jerk.
In most shows it feels forced and the story always ends the same with the character losing there fame, having to say sorry, and gets forgive for everything.
Real cliche but I take it for the time period this was made in.

Exactly! This is one of the best episodes. It shows the reality of the music industry. The ups and downs and the craziness. I feel LPDZ should've been an eatablished girl groups. And right after......all went solo and then.....came back as a group. Like seriously, I feel Wizard Kelly just was a hating a** and wanted money and control. Oscar is always seemed the "bad guy" but it's the other way around. At the end yeah basically it's just important to dominate together unity as a group and change the game in music period!!! Keep up the amazing work!!! 🔥

Just like Suga Mama said, "My Grandbaby can't never do no wrong!!" 🙄 It is THIS double standard that just makes me despise her more and more... it's been a problem since we first stepped on the field for cheer tryouts and STILL no one notices because like she said herself "IT'S ALL ABOUT [HER]!" There’s a similar episode to this one from teen titans go where beast boy makes a song about Raven and starts to become so popular from it that he starts to travel around the country and forget about her as he performs to other people, making everyone in the whole town fall in love with him and find love as well. so she decides to reverse his song to make him sound like he dislikes everyone which starts to make everyone in the whole town break up and fight each other and know he has to fix this by making a new song to get everyone back together!
This episode is just sad poor penny she can't win if her fake friends throw her under the bus they get no consequences but if she does the same thing she is the bad guy suga momma was right
