They are the best of friends, even though they have basically been in competition in the music industry for decades... Jimmy's band Cold Chisel is another Aussie rabbit hole you won't be sorry falling down in the future ! Jim is a rocker but has a huge blues heart.... I think you've already done When Something is wrong with my baby which featured John, Jim and Jim's brother in law Diesel (Mark Lizotte)...who has his own rabbit hole !! Talented people all three of them...

Yeah their get together involved a lot cognac and cigars . When Some Was Wrong With Baby was recorded under those circumstances because both Jimmy and John was so nervous singing with each other in the studio.

This song has added meaning when viewed by how Jimmy Barnes has used it in his story of awful domestic abuse. He and siblings used to climb out of the window to escape the violence in the house.....................when the war is over indeed, I know from personal experience that that is when it is safe to re-emerge as a child. Jimmy has so much heart and soul due to his upbringing, and the strength to break the cycle of abuse. He did suffer his own alcohol addiction for years, though. He could do an entire concert sipping a bottle of pure vodka throughout, and that was on top of pre-concert drinks and the beers on stage as well. His songs to his wife are because she helped turn him around.

John Farnham originally recorded When The War Is Over with the Little River Band in 1986 just before he left the band . Coincidence When The War Is Over songwriter drummer Steve Prestwich after Cold Chisel broke up in 1983 he was asked to join the Little River Band . Steve Prestwich recorded 2 albums with LRB .
Playing To Win 1984 and No Reins 1986 which features this song . And Steve Prestwich left LRB few months before John did .
LRB’s record label released When The War Is Over as a single to hopefully get some sales out and cash in out of John Farnham solo career taking off again with You’re The Voice and the album Whispering Jack was both sitting at number 1 on Australian charts . When The War Is Over failed to chart sadly . John Farnham re-recorded a solo version for the B- Side to he’s hit number 1 single in 1988 Age Of Reason that version was also added to CD version of the hit album Age Of Reason as a bonus track .
The original is a hit single for Jimmy Barnes’s band Cold Chisel number 25 on Australian chart in 1982 it’s from the album Circus Animals . The original song also features Cold Chisel guitarist Ian Moss on vocals. He has a more smoother soulful vocals than Jimmy’s gravelly grit tone .

Exactly this. Mossy and Barnsey blend and complement each other so perfectly for this song. John, as good as he is, loses some of the feeling from the original. Doesn't help that Jimmy is absolutely butchering his part of it.

You really want to check out John's version live from the 2003 'The Last Time' tour. This one was good as they are great friends and awesome singers. But I have to say, and I'm sorry for the die hard fans of Jimmy, but John's voice has a better range. This is why John can sing any genre, the lower notes, the higher notes, the extra high, with a little grit, and then comes the power wow. His live shows are the best to view, with the 2003 tour he puts a little comedy along with an awesome production. The 2003 live performance from John is the best I've ever heard this iconic song beautifully sung.

Really annoyed CZcams keeps deleting my comments. I was trying to give you a little history from 76 through 80’s. Facts etc. NZ touring you had to tour Ozzy to get good. Example Dragon, Noiseworks, Split Enz. It was tough. You played all the same clubs, pubs it was expected. The support band not on the posters, really the roadies. Cover band circuit you got paid. Steinlager paid bands to do residencies (free beer)
