We continue to work away at our tiny cabin during the tail end of a hurricane off the grid on our Canadian Homestead.
We're a couple building our own off grid cabin from the ground up in the Canadian woods. After serving in the army for the last several years, we faced a major setback with a medical release in 2018 and had to pack up our family and live in an RV on 70 acres we purchased with the impending release. We built our own home, and learned to live a more self reliant life while transitioning to a completely new life outside of the army. We built and sold the first home we built, which is documented entirely on our main channel "MBF Off-Grid". We sold it to be closer to medical care but that didn't stop us from fighting and moving forward. We also bought a farmhouse that we are remodelling and can be seen on our alternate channel "MBFarmhouse".

Sorry to hear you all are not feeling well.
Just a little tip......if you're going to use a cut board as a template, ALWAYS use the same one or every cut will be slightly longer.
Saves a lot of unneeded measuring and checking.
I like the look of the boards, I've used T&G on several projects.
sorry to hear you all have been sick. Heres to praying for better days.
Keeping you both in my Prayers & thoughts for better health & strength to continue into the future on your homestead.🙏🙏
Sorry to hear that you have been sick. Great job to keep going even when your not feeling great. You guys rock. ❤
It is hard to find good help that will show up everyday, but that pine board made a sharp sound, I hope Jeremy was sorry. Your a great couple. Be safe, stay healthy,& God Bless everyone.
Its going to be a cute cabin once its complete. A little bit each day and move in time. Prayers and blessing and get healthy soon. A little hug for Sam. Hugs from Santa Barbara California.
nice to see this siding coming along
That’s a GREAT idea.. you get to plan the project and take your time. It’s going to be fantastic. Get well ! Love ya’ guys!
It is soooooo much fun when you have significant other that wants to help
Happy upcoming anniversary:). Such a lovely couple.
Great video, hope you all get well soon.
Happy to see you again guys! Stay safe always….regards from down under Australia
Take care of yourselves and happy upcoming anniversary. We love watching your channels.
Thank you so much!
Hope you feel better!!!! Great team work !!
Happy Anniversary Ashley and Jeremy
Happy Anniversary guys.🎊🎂
If you are going solar on the roof, orient the roof facing South. Make sure you get a 90% compaction on the cabin area before concrete is poured, put a 6 mill poly under the floor before placing concrete. Have added fibers mixed into the concrete? You could put 2 inch 4x8 insulation down before the concrete also. Think about plumbing, get the pipes in before the concrete, and duck tape the openings.
The equipment on the side for the electrical from the power company includes a meter that completes the circuit. So it will not be safely useful for any other power source without the meter.
Sir Loin . . . . .lol awesome, hope you guys recover from your bug, stay playful
Hey guys! Looks like a super peaceful spot! Looking forward to watching the build! If I could offer a suggestion, make sure you put 2” foam insulation under your entire slab! Styro-Forms are awesome for the perimeter as well! Much warmer! GET WELL SOON all! Take care! J.H. MN🇺🇸.
Hot dang another build and not the pressure of the last one tho it turned out awesome and was a hoot to watch you all can't wait to see the plans and things getting underway 😁👍✌🙏
Hola “MBF” Jeremy & Ashley!! Cabin siding looks good! You two are a perfect match can work together and Hve fun doing the work!! 😊👍🏠
An NO bickering. Love that about you 2
Chuck the meter box and conduit riser coming through the roof. There is no way you can use them in a solar system, considering that you will likely run any lines underground.
Look like the paddle came out from behind closed doors great job both hardworking people
Love the little fridge
Hi guys good to see .Have some catching up to do on your videoes
God bless you two. And the baby sam
Great video guys! Looking forward to more. 🍻
Get better soon Ashley and Jeremy
Hope you get to feeling better!
Jeremy and Ashley, I was happy to see you get the new farm and property. I was equally excited to see you get the new tractor, and start on the cabin. The Ford Truck is probably my favorite thing to see you get. I think the square body Fords and Chevys are the best looking designs they made. Way better looking than the trucks of today.
Thanks 👍
I love those powered nail guns but a bit of advice. She has the business end pointed toward her thigh. I've had them discharge before firing a nail when the air is first hooked to air. I've done the exact same thing same way and had to go to hospital with a nail in my thigh.
Y'all be safe and have fun!
Ouch! Thanks.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Your slap stick humor is so funny.
Working through the new property builds is very cool.
The wood is making the cabin look amazing. 🌸🌸🌸
Thanks so much :)
Hope you get healthy quick. I'll bet your flu coincides with school starting. Happy Anniversary! I hope you are well enough to celebrate.💖💥
little cabin is looking good.
Thanks :)
Great video Ashley and Jeremy
Get well soon all 👍
Radiant floor heat in a slab is awesome if use with an outdoor wood heater! A buddy did it and it’s really nice.
Love yaw nice too see you again
Great job putting the boards on Ashley and Jeremy
To save you Guys a little time and money. On those holes in the siding. while sawing save you saw dust when you have a few holes Mix a cup of saw dust and some Elmer wood Glue, stir the mixture until all the dust is wet with the glue, Then fill the holes until it is full. after it dries if it is to low you can add more if needed. You can get the glue in the gallon container. Another thing if you need to clean a spot in can be done with warm/ hot clean water. when fully dried it can be stained or painted.
Well, Thank God he didn't nail you with that nailing gun.....😂Yall have a good day on the MBF Off-Grid.
What happened to the ladder. Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.
Prayers to feel better 🙏
Compressors/electric motors have a LRA rating in amps. Called Locked Rotor Amps. Practically a short circuit for an instant untill the rotor starts spinning. As voltage drops in a short circuit or low battery, the amps go thru the roof, according to some elecrical math magics.
Looki ng good glad you guys feel better stay safe
Get better soon Sam
Congrats on your upcoming Anniversary ,.. Have a Great Dinner , Smile. .. Hubby and I celebrated our 45th on September 8,2021... and looking forward to many more. We wish you both the same with many wonderful and Loving Years. Ninette Bird- The Caribbean Wife.
Happy Anniversary!
I was confused; however, y’all just gave me the answer I needed. Being in the hospital again gets me too far behind.
Sure hope you are feeling ok Virginia!
@@MBFModernHomesteading thank you
Fun video to watch!
You should always use the original cut to mark all cuts.
Hiya, that is how sirloin got its name, except it was a king, not a queen. Get better soon you all! Stay safe...Steve...
Thanks
My whole house has been sick for two weeks. Finally going back to work monday
Thats rough, hope you all are feeling better now.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY YOU TWO! AND MANY MORE TO COME!! :)
Thank you so much!!
Jeremy... Use wood glue and pine sawdust for the knot holes mixed to a thick paste... Namaste
Can't wate to see the building processes on this chunk of land .keep the videos coming please
Looks awesome.
Heck yeah my kind of living. Keep it up 👍
Don't forget the shooting window in the back of the balcony, will be a great hunting blind. LOL
Have you guys ever Though of an ICF Foundation for your cabin, you could even do a walk out basement for just a few more buck than wood frame.
plans sounds great, take your bride for a great meal and enjoy your ANNIVERSARY .
Sirloin. Lols. Omg. You guys. Looking great guys.🙂
You guys nailed it😁😁
;)
CZcams algorithm decided I would like this couple and it was right for a change lol. Subscribed and have a lot of videos to catch up on.
Happy to have you here Dave :)
When you’re ready to recharge air while using that power unit, you want to purge the air from the air tank. It’s pulling more power to recharge because you’re trying to force air into an already pressurized tank so the motor has to work harder. Also, if the compressor uses oil, drain the cheap stuff in there and get some decent stuff. That helped a lot in my case.
What was strange is that the compressor came back on a couple of times after the initial fill up. Have a great weekend!
Hope you are all well soon. But whatever you do, keep making videos, you know we can't get along without them, even ones of a couple of "sick'os". :)
haha :)
Happy early Anniversary
I could've use that frig a couple of weeks ago when I went to Ontario
Lol. I still vote that you turn the tiny cabin into a Sam shed when you finish your big cabin.
Congrats on your anniversary.
Thank you so much 😀
@22:49, I was a lil worried about y’all eyes safety; you can see excess grass blowing back at her face after nailing. I’m glad everything went well; remember safety first, specially for the eyes...
Soo nice !
Good see you both again 🥃🥃🥃
Check the air compressor bleed-off valve. The bleed-off valve should be actuated when the compressor shuts off. Most bleed-off valves are located at the pressure switch. If the pressure is not bled-off there is tank pressure at the pump head and the compressor will not start. I love watching your channel(s)!
I don't think that's the problem, look at the wind/weather it's cold, it needs extra power to start, when hot the problem will go away😉
Cool video. It’s a nice place👍👍👍❤️
great vid guys , safety guy here , no eye protection or ear protection guys the key to off grid is to stay safe and no one wants the mrs to get hurt , keep up the good work and stay safe
I try to wear eye protection as much as possible and she has been told over and over and over....you can lead a horse to water but.....Thanks Tom :)
@@MBFModernHomesteading all good it's a tough lesson .. I always tell my apprentices if they don't like there eyes I'd be happy to tell them how there wife or gf looks .. usually get a wtf...out of them
Nice. Productive and satisfying! What does Sam think? I love her analysis! Just a friend, Ron
Loves it!
I saw your tractor while you were talking about cooler, did you guys know about three point hitch mount generator for tractor I remember awhile back them being very reasonable and powerful enough to run a whole modern house and they have different sizes so might be something useful to your lifestyle, ps air compressor back pressure from full tank might require more amps to start if you use air till its low enough to not work the gun then restart the compressor might workout for ya, good video tho keep em coming lol
The cute little pony tail makes her look like a cute little pixie.
I am viewing this on your anniversary. Marjorie, (my bride of 50 years as of the 4th) and i extend our best wishes and prayers for God's blessing and provision for you as you celebrate many more happy anniversaries in the years to come. Pastor Ralph Yarn
Happy Anniversary!
Planning and preparation below the line, lol.
Set your phone alarm for sometime after you get home, and when it goes off, you'll remember to put your ladder in the truck...unless you have Siri or something else to remind you.
The compressor still has pressure in the tank
that's why he draws so much power
What is strange is that is kicked in after the initial fill up also while we were using the gun, so was pressurized at that point.
Its because there's already pressure in the tank, when its empty there is no pressure, or resistance ,but when it already has pressure, too much resistance
What is strange is that is kicked in after the initial fill up also while we were using the gun, so was pressurized at that point.
Nothing wrong with administering some guidance, man after my own heart.
haha
i was hoping your plans were to live there thats you two where you belong great idea. thumbs up .
battery tools is the way to go
Get er done , where is my snack lol A" , I'll bring the elk steak 🥩 , & the wild turkey whiskey
T watch you all the time and enjoy the content
Thanks for being here Raymond!
Its because your compressor is full of air... try draining some of the air then starting it... it takes more power to get the motor running when it is under load I.E. the tank is 3/4 full of air.
What threw us for a loop is that it kicked in while we were using it also and worked. It was after doing it a couple of times that it didn't kick in again.
@@MBFModernHomesteading Ya strange, I thought the power curve on lithium batteries were pretty flat, at 60% battery would think would be enough, maybe not though... you can damage a motor by starting it with an insufficient power source, it will continue to draw power and heat up even though it is not moving. Motors have high induction, which requires more power/current to start. AC compressors and blower fans have starter capacitors to help get them moving and protect the motor. They may sell a starter/run capacitor for your air compressor, though I think you would be better off just using your other generator to power it. If your air compressor has a starter or run capacitor it might be bad and need replacement.
Compressor is high draw 'hard start'... Need to get a 'soft start' for it...
My compressor did the same. Needs lota amps to start, not so much to run, but each time it shuts down have to start over and hi amp to start again. You can try running tank down to nothing and compressor may start again and shut off at max pressure. Get at least a full tank at a time.
Thanks, what was strange is that it actually refilled while we were using the gun also before it stopped .
Great to see all the upgrades, everything is really coming together for you all. I have a question in regards to maple syrup. A lot of people in Canada, northern US make syrup what do you do with it all? Do you use a lot for yourselves, sell it? Not a fan of maple syrup so just curious as to reasons why processing
We make enough to last us through the year to eat, cook with, etc.
Great plans. How's the road/drive way in to the new site; are you going to have to gravel it? Cement trucks are pretty heavy. Cheers.
It is a good drive, just need a load of rock in one spot over the spring so the culvert holds up.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! 9 YEARS.
THE 18TH IS MY 76TH BIRTHDAY. IM A SINGLE BACHELOR. I LIVE IN MICHIGAN USA.. I'VE BEEN A SUBSCRIBER SINCE BEFORE YOU BUILT YOU'RE OTHER PLACE. I LOVE WATCHING 👀 YOU'RE VIDEOS. I'VE BEEN RETIRED FOR 7 YEARS NOW.
Happy upcoming Birthday to you!
@@MBFModernHomesteading Thank you so much. 🙏
Good video guys hope everyone is feeling better enjoy your steak take care
You are in my prayers Jeremy. I was wondering how far the farmhouse was from the off grid property.
Thanks Herb, we are about 30 minutes away.
@@MBFModernHomesteading That’s not bad. You can commute back and forth fairly easy while you build your new cabin.
Y’all are great
Head pressure to great,, release pressure,,
Ok, I'm going to say it, what man would hit that!!!
lol
