My favourite way to start a new campaign is with a bit of a mystery that leads to some sort of evil cult. In this video I use XPS foam to craft an epic set piece to be used for an end of session encounter. Something to wow players and have replay-ability value.

I have always loved using terrain pieces to store miniatures. All my former PCs hang out in the bar scene on my shelf along with the mushroom guys.
That sounds bad ass. Is it an enclosed building that comes off the floor or just a 2 wall facade ?
@@boinkmcbingo8890 it's actually just the floor and furniture. It was meant to be inserted in with other tiles
@@Blandco that's a cool way to do it
I play online but have been keeping track of all my PCs (including one-shots). I was going to make each one as a mini diorama (or wider-based miniature), but populating a tavern could be really fun!
It’s great to see you keep your builds approachable for every level of builder. Eventhough you have years of experience, your videos give that sense of: “I could do that. I should give that a try.”
I'd have put the candles near the rises of the steps to leave where you put them free for minis. Might also have made the candlelight easier to depict.
LINDYBEIGE!!!
Lindybeige is into TTRPGs!?!? Love your videos!
Maybe affix them to basic mini bases. You can then paint them and apply the lighting effect without altering the terrain itself. This also might encourage players/monsters to interact with them in order to either use the candles in a novel way (lighting your way, setting a patch of oil alight, as signal batons to signal allies at a distance, etc.), or to just extinguish/destroy them to eliminate the light.
It would also be fun when your players become used to them in your games, but then suddenly are ambushed by a mob of animated candlesticks.
Just a thought I had.
I really love the effects you used to create an evil battleground for miniatures. I always struggle in my own story builds to create just the right effect I need to portray a specific scene. So thank you for making my miniature world a little less struggle and more effective. I appreciate it very much 😊
I found that the easiest and best result with blood effects and spatter is to use Golden high flow acrylics color Alizarin Crimson Hue. You can paint it, spray it, flick it, blow it, or stipple it. Works great with some texture paste or fake snow to make chunky body scraps too. Enjoy! And thank you for making these videos, you help more than you know.
Wicked sir. I'll be sharing this in my Verrotwood groups
Thinking of building this and using it to display my 1977 star wars figures. Arranged to mimic the medal ceremony in the closing scene.
Sick. Gave me crazy Nyarlathotep cultist vibes. I could see a group of investigators battling their way up the stairs, shooting and hacking insane cultists as they go, all in a vain attempt to stop the summoning of an avatar of the dark god. Only for the horror to manifest at the top of the stairs, represented by a cool, gore painted mini.
I use that surface primer as a brush on primer for my miniatures and it works great.
Great bit of terrain! Looks exactly like the sort of place where Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane would decide that enough was enough, and start killing cultists.
Great work!
In the Ancient Island of Crete, In Mycenae at Peloponisos , at Delphi and in Acropolis Athens you will find these kind of stairs were you can make 1-2 regular steps inside the margin of the steps of the stair...so YES!!! also niiiiice build!!! easy too
Always an inspiration. Not sure my wife would appreciate it as a centre piece on the coffee table when our friends are over for drinks !!
Beautiful Build!!!!! Nice mix of techniques!!!!! Love the simpler core approach to the build and how the advanced painting tied it all together!!!!!
Great video, honestly was creating an adventure in my head as you were making this, cultists are simple but so versatile thatvno matter the level they work so well as villains and this build is perfect for a lair, abandoned lair, ritual site, etc very awesome!! :)
Great project. So happy to see this sort of stuff back on here. Keep up the good work dude!
THAT'S GRIM BROTHER
Thank you for making those videos again. Not only they are fun, but so inspiring and informative. Cheers.
Great build! i love the horn-shaped pieces in the back.
Really liked this build. Dark, gritty and nasty 😍👍🏻. Really appreciate when you do themed pieces makes it even more inspiring. Keep up the good work!!
OMG this type of structure reminds me of the Horde slime pit with the reds and gray stone. It is "simple" Ig but I love it. There is a lot to be said about a piece's iconic silhouette.
That's a great piece of work - so much more than just a terrain piece!
This project turned out awesome! I love the more simple way that you did this what with the monolithic stone look! I'm going to get myself a fist-size rock for a deeper stone texture as well since it looks so cool on your piece! Just when we think "What can Jeremy do now that he hasn't already done?" you pull something cool out of your creative hat and surprise us all! Well done!
Great piece. And that's a good point you made about using terrain pieces AS the display for models, especially stairs like this. Not sure I would have attached the candles permanently.... Narrows down the multi-use flexibility, but there would be a problem of the candles constantly falling over otherwise..... Hmm....
Another one right out of the park! So many possibilities! Thanks for this!
I love a good centre piece in a game. Great work!
Really nice work. Always gives me good ideas. Love watching your work.
Another awesome build! Thanks again. On the revisited terrain perhaps the hall crawler or cage!
Great idea. I love the painting tips
I want you to know you are my favorite mini creator. your work inspires be to go beyond what I can normally build. Thank you and plz keep making videos
Back to basics. Smashed it.
So bad ass! I love your little builds, there always giving me ideas
Epic build. Also sound advice regarding cultists. So many layers of value. Cheers!
Love the idea of using this as a display stand. Obvious when you think about it (which I hadn't). I think I will be adapting this for my Adapta Soritas. Cheers.
Absolutely metal 🤘🤘 those final stone colors really shine!
This looks amazing, keep up the great job!
I LOVE your work ... I'm not into any D&D stuff ... but I am into your extreme talent!
Having been out of the BMC and terrain crafting loop for a couple of years(due to health issues), I've gotta say: Holy crap dude, the quality of your videos have improved immensely(and they were already high)! :D
Really fun, easy, highly useful, and great looking build! I might make this, myself. Cheers!
Welcome back!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Thanks, man! :D
Knocked it out. Cultists are a favorite of mine as well not just for low level crawls but can make for great long running campaigns as well.
Probably my favorite one yet!
Damn that's so cool. Well done as always.
Honestly, I think the idea of larger steps can work for something like this outside of just playability, like they were designed for some eldritch beast with long spindly legs, or for a hulking skeletal lich that once used this altar for its own means. Awesome work as always, Jeremy!
Awesome job again on the design and the video
Awesome, accessible project! Cool to see, would love to see you revisit some of those other tropes like a pirate ship, bandit ambush etc
Awesome build , you are the Dude.
Well done, great video. Thanks.
Great work!
Nice! Awesome! I'm loving the theme...next you should do a torture dungeon full of traps
I like them stairs.
good for getting from a lower area to a higher area!
Super cool, and very simple 🤩
Going to have to try the blood method, looks gnarly!
Fantastic job thank you, keep up the great work
Another great build!!!
love it!!! badass and bloody. niiice
looks awesome
Love this one!
yeah that would look awesome on the mantle with a battle raging on it. you could change the scene periodically to keep it fresh \m/
Love the video, the build and the shirt is chef's kiss!
Great idea. Would love to see more ways to display/ store minis. I’m just getting into it and have a small collection of painted minis. Trying to decide how to store them.
Awesome!
Wicked awesome!!!!
I use the same surface primer, it has been a favorite since I found it.
Great build, but the idea of storage/display is awesome! I'd love to see some cool display pieces
Amazing!
I say... that's badasssssssss
Keep rocking it!
one of your best!
Very cool build. Might have to break out the airbrush next time I do terrain.
Just a classic BMC terrain build video? _Nice_
I love it!
There’s a museum in Cincinnati that used to be a train station. No idea if the stairs to the museum were around back then, but they’re probably around 5ft wide. So these stairs are realistic, depending on the purpose and desirable use by cultists.
A
maaaazing!!! I love it!!!!
I missed a lot of the video, because I was headbanging the whole time
Creepy Dark Carnival !
This is awesome 🔥 I am going to try and create something similar 😊
nice build
Yep.. darker by the day and I love how you do it. Your videography rocks...next story lines with creepy voice overs.
Love it. Just another idea I’m going to steal!😅
Dang me, bro, very awesome build! Your enthusiasm and passion is contagious. As always, I appreciate you. - Rick, USMC.
"It's thematic, but also generic enough to get multiple uses..."
You've created the tabletop gamers' equivalent of a movie studio's backlot. 😉
🙂
That's siiiiiiick!!! 🤘
Looks like something from a heavy metal video from the 80s.
Whats funny is I am priming minis with the Vellejo surface primer while watching this.
Oh yea, it is real Evilmaxxing Hours 😈
good vid thank lee
Really great terrain piece! Love learning new techniques. Can you share where you picked up that beholder ball cap?
Death Saves
Fantastic build. So metal.
Cultists are really useful in adventures, as they justify all kinds of horror, evil, and secrecy. Their members are fanatics, so they will gladly fight to the death in service of their cause, in a way other intelligent creatures might balk at. And they draw upon all manner of temporal or otherworldly forces, so they can scale in threat to whatever is needed for the party's power level. Indeed, in a sandbox campaign, this will happen naturally; if the party neglects to deal with the cult, they'll be free to acquire more power and summon greater evils.
Best part is, the players don't need to feel bad about killing them. They're madmen worshiping malign intelligences from beyond the world, and doing atrocities in their name. Nor are they available to be reasoned with. The more the PCs learn about the cult, the more they'll WANT to kill them all. Sometimes a morally nuanced foe is best. And sometimes it's best to pit the party against enemies they're entirely justified in wiping out.
Nice video:)
Nice
I'm doing a BUNCH of OSL on my most recent Warmachine army, and my accidental discovery for flame colored OSL is Fluorescent orange, then with the last drop or so off paint add Fluorescent OrangeYellow, then with the last drop or so add bright-ass-yellow and its basically cheating it works so well... I use golden highlow acrylics fluo orange and fluo yellow, and some GSW Cyber Yellow but i suspect one of golden's yellows would work just as well but its what i have :)
Mine is painted over a sort of mid grey tone, about near the vallejo surface primer in grey... I tried doing it over white but that kinda makes it look all wonky
That setup is pretty cool and stylish! 🙂 Cultists
I love it! I always prefer the horror stuff!
Black Magic Craft at its darkest best !☠
"That's my cup of tea" literally watching while drinking a cup of tea....
I dont know, that lighting looked pretty darn good
Thanks!
Bad ass build
Sick build and a heavy backing track! HELL yes. I really feel like it adds to your style, very unique compared to every other hobby/crafting/TTRPG/Wargaming channel I've seen.
What are your favorite post metal bands? I really love Kosatka and Paint the Sky Red. Unrelated: Huge fan of the Architects before they went heavy pop/rock-ish.
What was that audio you used in the opening clip? That was cool as hell and I want to use it for backing in my game!
Also, the build is badass as hell and I absolutely gonna be copying parts of it for my own campagin!
Fantastic build! Also, cool ass shirt, I wish I had one, lol
❤ so cool!!!! ❤
Muito bom!!!
