    Great video for beginners. As most would opt for the umik-1 microphone, I'd extend the video with how to download and load the 90 degree calibration file into REW before measuring.

    Thank you for this video it's a great help. I Am going back for another round of measurements of my room and have always taken 3 measurements: Left Speaker, Right Speaker and Both. Why do you say the only measurements you want are of the left and right by themselves? When we are listening/working in our room I assume everyone has both speakers on at the same time. Why wouldn't we want a measurement of the room in the exact same state? Thank you again.

    • @markbee4238
      @markbee4238 Před 10 měsíci +4

      For the umik1 you will be able to download two calibration files based on the serial number of your specific microphone. Usually for REW you will use the 90 degree file and the microphone should be pointed straight up (90 degrees) to hear all the sound waves in the room (and placed in your main listening position at ear level). I believe the other file would be used if you are trying to measure a speaker without room impact and in that case the microphone would be a few inches from the speaker and pointed directly at the speaker and parallel to the ground (0 degrees).

      @SineEyed Před rokem +1

      It's not meant to tell _you_ anything. It's meant for you to send to them where they have engineers who understand what they're looking at. So, you take the measurements, send in the results, and pay them for the service of advising you on how to acoustically treat the room you measured.
      I'm pretty sure that's how this works..

    It would be immensely helpful to highlight (color, circle etc.) where the cursor is when you are telling us what to click. I know you know where you are at and what box you are in but some of us can’t see the cursor at the speed you are going and if we pause it we can’t find it at all.
    Also, the background music is definitely distracting when you are trying to concentrate on a fairly complicated task.

  • @socialmeaslesinpartnership1252

    This looks to be out of my paygrade. I could do all this, send the results to GIK and get the recommendations on room treatment but....they won't be realistic for a home studio. I think I'll continue listening to stuff I know very well through various playback devices and h/phones then calibrate my A7x Adam monitors by ear. I've already done placement. No hurry....small moves.
    If I need a studio, I'll book a studio, engineer and maybe producer. I don't think "Abbey Road" is realistic in a home set up and sound checking an acoustic guitar yourself from within a forest of microphones is a huge pain in the butt no matter what treatment the room has.
    Thanks. Lots of feedback about **** background music and I agree. There's a bit of a difference between posting "interlude music" (which is what GIK are doing here) and a bit of "background". All you need is the faintest pulse of rhythm at heartbeat tempo and the simplest possible repetitious melody - way, way down low - to energise a video. Definitely avoid any "category" or genre - such as synth rock to drum software. What we have here is........amateurish and intrusive but.........thanks.
