  • In today's video I review the poster bike from my youth, the Yamaha R1 RXV but does it live upto those sweet teen memories of only dreaming of ever riding one?

    Great review thanks. I have one and I can agree with every word. Non stop thrills, Power and smiles... mines a 2000 4xv7 and I love it to bits and will keep it forever

    I've had 3 R1s, all 4XV. My second one didn't have a steering damper and like you said if you don't treat them with respect they'll bite you. This bike made me a better rider as you learnt how to be smooth and fast.

      I’ve always said new generation bikers that are only used to electronic slide, anti- wheelie, abs etc would be in trouble if they got a leg over on something like these old R1’s 😅
      Still such good looking bikes now!

    Started mine up today. 1999 4xv . Fitted a race fit growler and a steering damper as it got a bit flighty when pushing it. Absolutely love it 😎😎😎😎😎

    Hi mate, brilliant video, got to luv this bike. I've got the same 4xv model had it 17years, part from the exhaust its completely standard, I even replace the original brake lines with genuine Yamaha brake line oem,when I needed to haha, it's still wearing its tax disc😂 in summer I ride it every couple of weeks to keep the carbs all good, I run it on posh petrol and add an additive too, its been a mint bike, in winter, I have to say it does go in the dining room on its paddock stand, but it still gets a turn over, nothing better than getting a brew on and just looking at it, ha sad I know.. Its part of the family and I can't see me selling it.. And TT legend himself John Mcguinness has been on it, and signed the tank ace, so him at the bike show yesterday and we we're talking about my old R1, Yep great bikes, and you've got another subscriber keep up the good work, cheers mate.... 👍👍👍👍👍🤘😁😁

      Glad you enjoyed the video John & it certainly sounds like you very much love the bike too 😎
      Haha not sad at all, often have a beer/ bbq in the summer and just look at the bikes, misses hasn’t approved one in the house… yet 😅
      Thanks for the support, plenty of 2 wheel action planned next year 👌

    I want one of these ! i have a 2001 r6 but i just feel like i want that but more oomf . love the look of the red white and black 4xv r1 too . yeah the revs dont climb and drop as fast as the injection bikes but i overall like the feel of a carbed bike and like the thought its mostly just mechanical with the running of it not too much electrics . i preffer the look of late 90s early 2000's bikes too . thse new skinny and pointy sportbikes just look weird alot of the time to me

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  Před rokem

      Owned a 5EB R6 too, very cool bikes 😎
      There is certainly something very full of character with carb bikes, they may not be as clean and precise as injection but still wonderful to ride 👌

      Completely agree. New bikes are way too short with almost no tail. R1 1999 is a looker.

    My old 98 R1 has 135000 km's on the clock & I've toped her out at 288 kmh.
    Yes a good set of brake pads on the front works well. Don't waste money on the rear as it hardly touches the ground while braking hard..
    She handles so nice.

    The Yamaha R1 is beautiful! What year was it?

  • @aircooled2068

    Imho the best looking R1
    I have a chance to buy one just like in the video,but I'm worried it has been a track bike,as it comes with 2 sets of wheels and something I noticed is the Yamaha decal on the bottom of each side of the lower fairing looked smaller in size than the Yamaha decal on the tank!
    Any other R1 of the same year ive seen has much bigger Yamaha decals

      They are getting to the age where many have been used on track and had repairs sadly. They are a solid bike so as long as it’s been looked after it wouldn’t worry me buying a bike that’s done the odd track day (best place to really see what they are capable of)

    • @MalShakur
      @MalShakur Před 2 lety

      My personal racebike was probably maintained better than most street bikes. You'll find that most track and race guys are pretty solid when it comes to maintenance.

    Noticed you taped the speedo lol, anyone who owns one know what they do 3rd gear full revs!! Lovely bikes though I have 2 4xv's. Pretty much the best superbikes got without all the modern rider aids and fuel injection. Does take some skill to ride these at their best!

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  Před 2 lety +1

      That piece of black plastic always appears to be flying around getting stuck on the clocks when ever I’m reviewing.. what are the odds 😅
      Agree, certainly an exciting experience but not suitable for a newbie to two wheels! Nice, keep hold of them for years to come - only going one way value wise 😎

      @@stoneautomotive Yup that damn old flying bits of tape!!! Biggest bit of advice i'd give to any owner of these first gen r1's is check your exup valve is fully opening/closing. A good friend of mine thought he's was quick but the exup was seized closed, got it fully working and was 'too quick for him' after that!

    Since 99
    So she is now 24' year old
    & I'm 64 years old 😂😂

    ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL 😅
    is this why so many youngsters crash I wonder 😊😅
