    At 8m 25 secs just below your hand is a breather turret thing? There are 2 one each end. Does anything connect to these and which way do they face when carbs in position? Just pulled my newly purchased 2001 R1 apart as she is running rich, new plugs gone in, the original ones were black and a bit wet from fuel. A bag that came with the bike has a carbs rebuild kit and k& n air filter, was no filter in the airbox! Put filter in when putting back together. Starts and runs much better with new plugs but, only a matter of time before they foul up again I guess. May have to use the kit and perform the same action as your video explains. Thanks for the video btw

    Awesome vid. I’ve just nut and bolted mine but it’s running a touch lean I think. I’ve set and balanced the carbs bk to stock but I need to find the stock setting for the needles before I start richening. I’m running a k and n filter and akrapovic slip on so it definitely could do with just a touch more fuel. Any tips on how to get it just a bit richer? And what the stock needle setting is? Cheers mate.

      @TheGingybeardMan  Před 3 lety

      In this vid I'm running the stock jet sizes. I think I state the sizes. I can't remember the for the life of me the stock needle settings but you can make the bike ritcher if you turn the air fuel mixture screw anticlock wise ( one turn out at a time) then gauge how lean/ritch its running based on the spark plug coloration

    Yoyoyo...... is it normal for these earlier version R1 to have a noisy ticking motor? Seems like everyone has it and say it's not a problem and just how the motor is. Have you found what causes it.... apart from the usual, "It's the cam chain tensioner" thing?

    Heya, I've picked up a set of these for a car conversion I'm putting together, at roughly 8:30 the side on view of the carbs, whats that pipe for? As I didn't take these off a bike don't quite know where everything goes beside the fuel and breathers, also theres a smaller diameter one on the opposite end of the set of carbs.

    Hi mate great Informative vid, I have the same R1 had it for 15yrs great bike...Hope you don't mind me asking, I take the bike off the Rd in winter,just don't want it to get salted up etc, and I used too empty the fuel tank, and drain the float bowls, but still had to have the carbs stripped and cleaned, I've ran it until the cooling fan kicks in then turn it off and put it back in the garage, but this year I've been running it on super unleaded and put a fuel additive in the fuel so alls OK, us there any advice you could give regarding taking it off the road, run it, or drain the carb really not sure, sorry to waffle on but, just wanna do the right thing... Cheers 👍👍John..

    • @TheGingybeardMan
      @TheGingybeardMan  Před 3 lety

      Change the oil/filter before you put it away. Make sure the tank has 3/4's of a tank of gas and put in some fuel stabilizer. Do not start the bike after you change the oil. The breakdown of the stagnant oil acts like an acid (not a strong one obviously). Do NOT start the bike during the winter months. It causes condensation. I also take the battery off the bike and store it inside with a battery tender on it. That's all I do anyway mate 👍

    Great video. I have just rebuilt the carbs on my 01 R1. I set the floats like you did in this video. They are back on the bike and I'm just trying to fire it off on starter fluid to see if it will run. So far no luck. I do have spark to all 4 plugs. They aren't new but not bad looking. The bike sat for 3 years so I'm not sure what else could be wrong with it. Could use some help if you have any ideas to throw my way.

    • @TheGingybeardMan
      @TheGingybeardMan  Před 3 lety +1

      Did you clean out your jets to ensure they're not blocked as you said the bikes been sitting. Also did you adjust your fuel mixture screws? Another thing to check is to see if you reinstalled the coil wires to the spark plugs in the correct order?

    • @My68Tempest
      @My68Tempest Před 3 lety

      I completely cleaned all 4 carbs even separated them. Super clean like new. Put all new parts from a rebuild kit. The mixture screws have the cap on them so they are not adjustable unless I drilled out the cap. The spark plug wires are still marked 1,2,3,4 so I installed them left to right. That's the way they came off. I'm getting my info from the internet because I don't have a factory manual yet
