    I have looked at so many videos on how to reattach my blade engagement spring. The old one broke and I had no idea what hole it was supposed to hook in to. The rest of it was still attached so easy to follow but the spring broke in half and was completely gone. This was the easiest video to follow.

      @@fixitFlip No problem. The compliment is well deserved. I watch a lot of you tube and use it to do many projects i wouldn't otherwise do. So, i been trying to get this mower deck back on after someone else took it apart and your video was simplified to the point that i now know exactly what i need to do tomorrow at first day light! But i started watching different videos about this mower deck a few weeks ago and not a single one was even close to being as good as yours was just to the point. Seriously, go watch some of these other videos and compare them to your own. It could only help you to see what exactly you are doing that is so right. Maybe go look up some subject you don't already know. Then you wil know what i mean. Thanks again.

    Your PTO spring comes out a lot easier than mine. I had messed with it for like 30 minutes before looking up this video. I finally realized if I slid the deck back, I could get the spring under a bar and a higher angle then it popped right out. I have the Bronco, it's basically the same model, I think the engine is the only thing different. And apparently the bar that was in my way, I didn't see it on yours. Also the hook on your PTO looks smaller. Mine was re-manufactured so maybe they put some different pieces on it.
    I got it off though, blades changed, this video showed me I needed a higher angle - work smarter, not harder - very helpful.

    COME ON MAN the belt will come off the pully without taking off the guard it will give just enough to go past and on again without stressing the guard metal, put a little lift on mower deck and the weight wont be an issue to push out pins , pto cable is long enough to slide deck just past mower and remove without cutting wrist when it comes lose underneath just saying the rest is what i do as well

    recently with the help of one of your videos I was able to install new spindles on my Pony. The old spindles I took off were the ones that came on the mower and they did not have grease fittings but the new ones I put on do have grease fittings. Are new spindles like this full grease and the grease fittings are just to allow you to make sure they can be kept full of grease or are they totally empty when you get them requiring you to fill them with a grease gun before you use them for the first time? If you could comment on this I would appreciate it. I didn't see anything on the box or any instructions mentioning anything about this. Thanks again for your help.

      The ones that come on the mower are "maintenance free." The ones that come with zerks should have grease in them out of the box, but it never hurts to top them off just in case. I've seen a lot of goofy things come out of factories.

    Nut, bowties, position of blade which side is up and cardboard. This is a very good video for the TroyBilt Pony which I bought about three years ago and the price has almost doubled. The retaining nuts that hold these blades on are not something you can go down to a big box store to replace.
    If it's reluctant to break loose and you round off the nut, you may need to order this three-dollar part that could take a week or more to come in. Careful ordering online, it may say it's the correct part but you get it and it's the wrong sized thread. If it goes on and then does want to go all the way on without force, you've got the wrong size thread and forcing it will ruin the spindle which is a pricey repair. If it's stuck, with the deck off, it's a lot easy to get the room to break it off. A little WD 40 doesn't hurt either.
    Know which side of the blade is up and which is down. The blade may have it stamped, a sticker in my case, nothing at all. Look up if in doubt. The bowtie can be damaged and if it is, replace it before putting it back together.
    The cardboard isn't necessary but makes positioning the deck a lot easier when you put it back on.

    • @fixitFlip
      @fixitFlip  Před 2 lety

      Yep. A big breaker bar or an impact can help with that nut as well. See my "how to remove a lawnmower blade" video.

    I just went through all this and when I went to put the deck back on, it ended up with one end being further back than the other. To where the levers that attach to the deck to lift it up and down only matched on one side. I don't know if attaching the idle spring first made it pull to one side more causing the deck to be slightly diagonal, but it started pouring rain and I had to detach everything and will have to try again tomorrow.

  • @ericschmitz5119

    This is a hella lot easier than I even thought it would be. I've done a belt without removing the deck, but the guy doing that video also changed his blades with the deck on. This seems like it would be far easier for that, and you may as well hit it with the pressure washer while it's off. In my case, I'll probably have to replace the spindles. They're kinda stiff and I expect that's why I burned up not just the old belt but the new one, too. Sucks, because the spindles are about $75 a pop.

      @@fixitFlip Well, I sure do appreciate concise but comprehensive DIY vids like this. Thanks!!!
      Hoping I can save the spindles, but I don't even know if lubricant is getting to where it needs to go. And they are probably sealed bearings anyway. Someone posted a vid about drilling into them with a Dremel and inserting a grease fitting. Seems like a great way for someone like me to completely ruin the things, LOL!

    • @fixitFlip
      @fixitFlip  Před 3 lety +1

      @@ericschmitz5119 Yeah, mine has "maintenance free" spindles. But they don't last as long as the ones you can grease. But I have also seen the video on Steve's Small Engine Saloon where he shows that even if you just drill into the spindle, you are still not getting oil where it needs to go on these types of spindles. You have to open the inside up.

      @@fixitFlip Knew there was a reason I bookmarked this. Just came in very handy a second time. I had to untangle a long piece of cable that it tried to gobble up a couple days ago! This really is an easy process. The only step that gave me fits was getting the PTO cable out of its bracket.
      BTW, turns out the spindles weren't sticking. The deck was off and PTO disconnected (of course), leaving the pulley brakes engaged. Once I got it back together, they were spinning with no problem.

    I’ve just bought a new pony and the deck has scallop wheels on it like the bronco. Also has a bigger motor.
    I wonder if the deck mechanics are the same? There are zero videos on the newest pony. The deck wheels are a clear difference when looking.

      Yes, I just looked at a manual for the brand new Pony. It does have a couple new features like the deck wheels but the deck adjustments are the exact same as in my video. The lock nut in the front for front to back adjustment and the adjustment gear on the side for side to side leveling.
