While shooting any round without hearing protection can result in hearing damage, please try and do so with an ar pistol in a close quarters and see what happens. You will seriously damage your hears and anyone around you (family). There are many stories of people that have on forums and the damage they have caused. This single issue is not brought up more and is a major reason why I sway towards PCC vs ar pistols for HD. If you want to use an intermediate cartridge, at least get a rifle or have a suppressor for the pistol but please consider the sound before purchase, you might not have the chance to use hearing protection in a home defense scenario!

Great video! The compatibility aspect with my Glock is swaying me towards the AR-9.

I don't understand why people list distance as a criteria for home defense. If someone is 100 yards away on the edge of your property and you shoot them, guess what partner, unless they had a bazooka pointed at your house, you're going to prison. Self defense doesn't work if it isn't an immediate threat to life. If you have time to call the police and allow them to handle it, you're supposed to do that. If they remain at a distance, then the cops will handle it. If they move towards your home, breach and create an immediate danger that cannot be prevented by warning them prior to engagement, now it's a different story.

1 thing to take into consideration with the AR15 is the ability to put a rifle length upper on the pistol designated lower if that is allowed in your area. That is also if the other lower parts are compatible with a 16" upper. (Buffer system)? Still learning.

I'm looking at this very thing atm. I sold my Ruger 556. I'm going to replace it in March. My dilemma is the AR 9 or 15. Well, I have 1k rounds of 556 and 800 rds of 9. My edc is a 9mm CZ 75D Compact. Trying to decided to either sell the 556 ammo, get more 9mm or use that for a good optic for an AR 9, since my edc is a 9 or go the 556 route and have 1k ammo ready to go. Tough decision these days. It'll just be a Jeep, bag, camp gun. Nothing fancy or over 50 yrds.

10 inch or less 9 nm ar is hard to beat, its way cheaper, less noisy, less flash, and with quality +p bonded jhp you can clock 1500 fps with a 124 grain projectile... more than enough for everything, even hunting, inside 60 yards... anything bigger than 12 inch go with 556... 300 blk cost wise is a no go... even tough is the best balístic option inside 200 yards range with 110 grain supersonic ammo..

A video like this is great because if you’re watching it and even disagreeing with some stuff it still answers your question. For example ammo options and ammo prices seem irrelevant in my mind because I really won’t be shooting this gun much like maybe never after the first weekend. Recoil, flash and sound are major considerations where I’m thinking distance and capability are not so much if I’m shooting someone inside my house. So see there you go this video led me to a decision even if it’s not the same one. Thanks

You didn't bring up ammo types.JHP in the 9mm dumped from a 30 round magazine will do a lot of damage and not over-penetrate!

The biggest difference you missed is the 556 can penetrate level 3a armor while 9mm cannot. that's the reason I stick to 556 for close quarters and home defense with a 9 glock as a followup sidearm and schockwave with shot for clearing situations
