I would say that it is not unspeakable to see Arkane turn Redfall around. Look how drastic of a departure Prey's expansion was from the core gameplay of the release game. Prey was an awesome game and made better by the DLC. If this game takes on the admittedly disgusting title of "live service', and does some major changes I could see this becoming a 80-90% game in the end. But they have lost the position to ask us to pay more, so they would have to make them free DLC across all platforms. I love the art style of the game, I love the vampire story elements... Just needs to be polished and reworked a bit. That's my take anyway.
in regards to xbox, i still sit on my original xbox one purely due to the eco system, i can access my xbox games on my pc whenever for games that need the hardware but when i want just a casual experience thats what the console is for. as a whole the amount of games you can access on cloud and through game pass with its links with ubi and ea... its a really hard economic proposition to ignore especially when i dont have a lot of money to throw at games at full price

Appreciate the time stamps 👍
Beautiful

I love Ralph's passion for Destiny 2 because he doesn't try to convince everyone its a masterpiece. This channel started as a looter shooter channel and seeing that he still has that passion in him is really cool. Love ya Skill Up!
Ralph?!
@@28_Spokes My thoughts exactly
Dude never fails to talk about destiny
It's his... calling.
Skill Up's next move is to become ambassador of Destiny.
Yeah I'm surprised that he likes to play a ass game that continues to get worse and has no other way but to go down hill haha.
He's addicted to it. I can relate though 😂 for me it's the same thing with Overwatch. I play normal games too but that's the game I grind with my friends when we aren't just relaxing
It’s genuinely interesting. I feel skill up has a good sight for bad gsmes and good ones. Destiny has constantly been criticized and imo isn’t really that good yet he loves and gets hyped for every update even tho I always hear the community say it’s a letdown
Based skillup thanks for playing the full clip and setting the record straight on Phil's statements.

Digital Foundry gave you not one but TWO shoutouts in their last podcast for your Redfall and TotK coverage. 👏👏
I always look forward to hearing: "Gamers!" being enthousiastically said by Ralph.
"Hey, he's talking to me!" XD
Its funny because i got so used to these videos that i get weirded out now not hearing "GaaAaamers!" on his reviews! 🤣
Really enjoyed seeing so much of the Phil interview. Really interesting stuff, and good to see so much of it in context instead of soundbites or headlines

Hey, that’s me at 1:00! Thanks to SkillUp for joining Game On Cancer as an ambassador 🙏🏽
Can’t wait to make a big difference together in the world of cancer research.
Fair play to Phil for owning the Redfall storm.
8:50 What gets me with that quote is that looking at Redfall I don't see a game with any real creative vision, like maybe a vague outline but nothing concrete. And I think that is exactly what the problem was, it honestly feels like an Anthem situation somewhat where Arkane wanted to do something different from their usual output but had no real idea what and then the game just sorta happened and lurched into release. Not that I know if this was really the case, it just gives of that vibe to me.
The game has always looked like a soulless husk of a game. Eye rolling bs. Pew pew bang bang shootey shootey bs
AND YET doesn't it feel like its right there? Co-op vampire slaying writes itself, I just don't get how they fumbled this soo hard.
the virgin "redfall is so disappointing" vs the chad "it looked like shit from the start"
The lack of advertising and how vague they were about what it was leading up to release, I'm inclined to agree lol
It was an order from Microsoft. Arkane would never willingly do this.
Thank you for sharing the WHOLE clip. It's insane how Spencer's words got twisted like that. Hearing him being so opened about that stuff despite his role in all that, and seeing his words getting twisted like that do makes me understand why usually those people do not speak a single word or a just full of bullshit.
Problem is that people either misunderstand or are putting a naively optimistic spin on what he actually meant. MS "enlarging the pie" is not an act of corporate benevolence, its that they want to dominance on all fronts; console, pc, mobile, and alternative digitally connected platforms. The more progress they make on that across the board and the thorny competition posed by Nintendo and Sony simply goes away via a process of encirclement.
Its embrace, extend, extinguish as per usual, which is why MS' brass is willing to invest billions into acquisitions that don't enhance their competitiveness directly, but materially impede their rivals' ability to compete.
@@inxe8 > Its embrace, extend, extinguish as per usual
While I agree with your actual point, this is a deep misunderstanding of what EEE actually is. It's about technical standards and open source, not market verticals lol.
And we should not give Sony a pass for the same anti-competitive behaviour that they've been quietly engaged in for the past 15 years. Consolidation (be it outright or otherwise) is bad for consumers, regardless of if it's Microsoft or Sony doing it.
Really appreciate you sharing the full clip and scope of what Phil was discussing and looking at the overall picture of the industry. You do some amazing work on the review and reporting side of the industry Ralph, keep it up 👍
@@deetsitmeisterjd The idea wasn't that it does not make people want to buy, he stated that it doesn't capture market share *away* from Sony or Nintendo. Making great exclusives would absolutely make people get an Xbox or go with Microsoft on PC for sure. But his focus was on market capitalization and snatching up those dollars Sony might take in things like third party titles. Think of Nintendo for example, no one is buying a Switch for a third party game in addition to the first party titles. Phil was speaking about total market capitalization. Remember, they sell that hardware at a loss either way. This is why they have pushed so hard to capture IP like COD and the mobile market that Activision/Blizzard hold. He's speaking to the larger ecosystem, not just how they sell more Xbox consoles. This is why they have embraced PC in a more open manner than Nintendo and Sony is only recently seeing the fruits of opening up to that. I don't think he's glossing over that, every other channel has hit this point already. Ralph is speaking to the rest of what Phil said providing some additional thought on the matter. No need to restate what's already been said by everyone else. He added to the conversation here I think.
@@Jordahni Given how brain dead so many other comments are it's nice to see non-npc comments like yours. Xbox consoles are literally always sold at a loss, in fact the hardware itself has literally NEVER made a profit since the brand's inception.
Philis exactly right, even if someone ends up buying an Xbox to play Starfield, it's overwhelmingly likely they won't stick around because they already have their library and trophies and friends on another platform.
Too many people literally still think as if the end goal is to sell consoles, when it really never has and especially now is practically redundant for Microsoft.

Who wants a console with bad games? Focus on making your own good games and people will buy your console. As of right now, I don’t plan on buying another Xbox. I wish I spent my $500 on a PS5. I can only play so many gears of war games. It got old fast
@@b4warned115 Thanks for sharing. I enjoy good games on my Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.
@@arnotskywalker6366 glad to hear that. Most people don’t have money for both consoles so they pick the one with the best games. Xbox live is a better online service in my opinion, but PlayStation has so many must play games. Xbox just doesn’t have that anymore.
Man, I wish @SkillUp would do more of these super-compilation and talking over other ppls points like he did with Phill's interview
His brother has a show right now that does just that, laymen daily show.
I feel like Spencer's whole speech, including the whole "third place" part, while overall honest and appreciable, was also very strategic.
With the Activision-Blizzard acquisition being fought against so hard it's in Microsoft's interest to appear as the little guy who's losing rather than the super solid corporation. Narrating yourself as in "third place" helps when you want to win with anti trust, even if you truly are in third place.
He's following the art of war pretty much, underplay your strength as a massive megacorp that is seemingly losing to two other megacorps while you yourself as Microsoft are bigger than them in revenue & employee count.
Microsoft loves eating up studios & dominating in software & hardware, appearing weak works well for his corporate position.
Nothing to do with that. Regulators didn't care about consol stuff since xbox is truly irrelevant on that market. Deal fail because of Cloud gaming (you have that info even on this channel when the deal failed). So this interview hurt their case even more since he was talking about focus on Cloud gaming.
@@robhans5 Deal failed in the UK for that reason, and even then it was just one of the many options the party against Microsoft threw in and see what sticked. Microsoft is trying to paint a picture of itself to regulators worldwide, this stuff absolutely does matter.
In that vein do you think they deliberately released a bomb in the midst of the biggest acquisition in gaming history(by 10x) to appear weak? Perhaps they saw the state of the game, gauged public interest, did the math on cost to get it semi decent and instead cut their losses & used it as a weapon to ease fears that Microsoft will become a significantly stronger game industry behemoth after acquiring COD, WOW and Candy Crush. I'm probably giving them too much credit, but honestly with the TENS of BILLIONS at stake it isn't too far fetched they'd have strategists, analysts and psychologists on deck.
@@murdock6159 I don't think that's realistic, no.
Hey man just noticed you’re close to 1mil subscribers! Think I’ve been subscribed since about 200k or so, awesome to see you doing well
Never expected to see my hometown mentioned in the Feel Good segment of this show! I went to the National Museum Of Play so many times as a kid and the video games museum a bunch of times as a teenager. They have a huge arcade on the upper level with tons of classic machines, and they're all free with admission. Glad to see it mentioned here!
Redfall is going to make an absolute BANGER of a chapter in a Jason Schreier book one day
I respect Jason's ability to stay professional in an increasingly toxic industry but God would it be something for him to show all the worts and scars when he's done with his career.
Related, I eagerly await the wha happen on this.
I have a feeling his report on Redfall's development would be strikingly similar to Anthem's development. That it was the Arkane higher ups who had no clear vision and direction, causing delays after delays with no decisions made except for the fact that they wanted to make a multiplayer game. And that maybe it was Microsoft who came in after the acquisition and started getting the studio in order much like how EA did to Bioware.
Waiting for the inevitable Death of a Game video

Ralph is quite possibly the only person on social media that didn't misunderstand Phil Spencer's saying regarding the state of Xbox and Microsoft Gaming. Then again I've learned to expect no less. Keep up the amazing work!
The signature xbox Public Relations that lets them get away with butchered games and gutted companies - the teenagers seem to gobble down
Ralf read between the lines; Phil massively misspoken.
Yeah he just simped for him. Added lot of context and words he did not say. Not impressed.
It's really splitting hairs. The fact is Phil is waving the white flag, saying that people are dedicated to a platform due to Fandom, ignoring the cause of that is because of the game quality. Relegating XBOX to a "missed the boat" so let's put our hands up.
Now that cross play is more prevalent and consol choices are based less on what your friends have, the game quality is more important than ever.
@@danielboyd7810 it has to do with game quality yes, but is phil wrong? i would guess that most people that have 1 or 2, they’re not gonna sell them to use the money to buy an xbox. what phil says makes sense because not every person ever is a millionaire

I think Phil has built something with a lot of potential. They got the hardware, services, and developers. Their huge problem is they don't currently seem to have Sony and Nintendo's ability to manage and raise the game of their studios. I'd like to imagine the incredible advantage of having a CEO like Phil is being more hands on, working with the studios, and making sure their games are of good quality. I really hope he's able to figure out that component and turn Xbox Game Studios into something great.
We're starting to get to the end of the development cycle of the bigger games that Microsoft had more to do with the development of, Starfield's gonna be a big deal if it is good or not, then after that the eggs are all in the Avowed basket unless I'm forgetting anything else big that we know about from the acquired studios other than like... the Indiana Jones game from MachineGames and Hellblade 2

This past week made it really easy to see who were the genuine, critical thinking, gaming commentaters and who were the surface level rage baiter. This was a great touch on the Phil Spencer interview that wasn't absolutely foolish and reactionary, You don't miss my guy.
well it wouldnt hurt XBox to try and focus to give us some 8-9-10/10 games you know? And no, no one would sell their playstation but there are many people out there who have more than one console and would buy a console more if the titels on this console are great.
@@marcpaulus6291 Nobody is debating this lol. Despite what some headlines would lead you to believe, nobody is saying is Xbox shouldn't strive to have great games.
@@marcpaulus6291 I think you, and a lot of people, missed the point. OF COURSE they want to make 10/10 system sellers... But it won't get them the market share to match the investment. They won't get ahead if that's all they invest in.
@@shadowknight1994 except Phil, who's obviously trying to downplay Xboxes current woes, lack of titles, and poor titles, by basically saying that none of these are core/all that important to Xbox strategy nor are they the focus. Phil and Xbox have been going on about "libraries" and "people play where they want to play (as long as it's an MS platform)" and "gamepass" and "ecosystem" and "continuity" since before the Xbox Series X launched. It's literally just Xbox marketing speak. What is also marketing speak is the whole "woe is me (Microsoft/Xbox)" and "poor little old Xbox languishing in third place" and "we simply just cannot compete with the big kids in the playground" and "the competition makes being Xbox hard" (which is a really weird thing to say) and "people already belong to one "ecosystem" and continuity and therefore we can't compete". And here you have ShillUp - the self admitted recovering Xbox fanboy with lingering attachments - sucking it up hook, line and sinker. Excuse after excuse deftly woven with marketing speak PR magic.
The thing is, all of us who _can_ think critically and _do_ have functioning memories, know it is all BS. Aside from easily being able to see the marketing speak, excuses and narrative Phil is trying to spin, we can also see the nonsense pretty clearly. "Continuity" and "libraries" and "being part of an ecosystem" didn't matter when PS3 sales started accelerating late into its life cycle, after a lot of people already bought an Xbox 360 and sales started petering out. It didn't matter when all those Xbox 360 owners decided to buy a PS4 instead of Xbox for last gen because Microsoft dropped the ball with Xbone and then didn't pick it up again for the entire generation while the PS4 went all in (learning from what they did wrong with the PS3). It also didn't matter for all of the Xbone owners who then switched to the PS5 for this generation, because they were fed up with Xbox last gen and finally decided to see if the grass was greener on the other side. Spoiler alert, it is, as it was last gen.
The fact of the matter is, Playstation turned market share around in the 360/PS3 era by putting out great games towards the end. Exclusive games. Reasons to get a PS3. It also helped that the PS3 had longer legs than the Xbox hardware wise. Microsoft on the other hand started trending in the opposite direction. Playstation then built upon this during the PS4/Xbone era by doubling down on this approach, and by making sure they flipped the script by making the PS4 more like that gen's equivalent to the Xbox 360. Microsoft did the opposite, especially in the games department. Slowly and steadily over the course of last gen, Sony built the current market share, reputation, mindshare and brand of Playstation into what it is today, off of the back of good games, and having plenty of them. They gave, and continue to give, people reasons to get a Playstation, and the primary reason was simply games. It always has been about the games. The casual gamer - which makes up the majority of the console market - only cares about good new games and what consoles their friends bought. Every generation, the questions for the new console has always been: "does it have good, new games that I am interested in that makes it worth spending money on this console" and "do my friends have it or are they going to get it?". The answer to the first question almost always influences the answer to the second question, and it is possible to switch things around even in the middle or late into a generation if good games - reasons to get a different console - start to drop with enough frequency.
Lets not forget too, that it is absolutely within Microsoft's physical ability to put out great games for Xbox. Xbox is owned by Microsoft, one of the biggest and richest companies in the entire world, perhaps even in the history of the entire world. In other words, far more money to spend than Playstation. They have close to double the number of first party studios, partly thanks to all of their acquisitions. Materially there's nothing stopping them. There's also nothing stopping them from making exclusive deals like Sony is doing. In fact, Marvel's Spiderman _could_ have been on Xbox as an exclusive, because Marvel went to them first with the offer/pitch. Insomniac _could_ have developed that first party for Xbox, but Xbox/Microsoft told them to get lost, so they went to Playstation instead who accepted their pitch. Remember, Microsoft burnt bridges with Square Enix too, who was also going to do several exclusives or timed exclusives for them. And then there is all the cases of Sony outbidding Microsoft for exclusives and timed exclusives, or the times when Microsoft was just simply too stingy when negotiating with third party publishers, negotiated in bad faith, or just simply had an "its our way or the highway" approach. Sometimes they just flat out reject what the publisher is trying to put on the table.
With the way the Xbox first party lineup is going, and the repetitive spiel Phil is always giving us, it looks like history - last generation specifically - is starting to repeat itself. Lets see next year, when Xboxes first party titles start dropping and if they turn out to be good, if Phil's corpo messaging starts to change. At this point, all this talk about "gamepass" and "ecosystems" and "libraries" is covering for the fact that the first party lineup is lacking, and for the fact that the first party lineup hasn't really been that good (letalone interesting). It's worth noting that Xbox revenue is slipping as well.
@@RockSolitude Just letting you know I'm not reading all this and I pray this is copy pasta and not something you legitimately typed out because that would be hella sad. Please go play games you like on the platforms you like and don't waste anymore time on stupid comments like this.
My question for Phil about Redfall would be "What about your internal QA, playtesting, etc made you think that the reaction to Redfall was going to be anything other than what it ultimately was/is?"
Yes
Especially after the shit show of a halo infinite
don't ask those questions, it doesn't fit their narrative.
I think his honest answer would be something along the lines of
"We knew it was gonna be a bad game but there is no point in delaying a game that has no clear creative vision or direction. And now that Arkane has invested this much time already on it and we have invested money in acquiring it, to shelf the game at this point is gonna be bad financially. Might as well just put it out there and hope it doesn't get too much backlash. We were hoping that by putting it on Gamepass at launch, most players won't complain since it is "free". Also in hindsight, maybe we should've lowered the price to $40."
I worked for Microsoft for a number of years as a dev, and in developer relations. There are a lot of micro-cultures at Microsoft, but one thing the entire company has in common is that it's not a place where you can just come out and say that a product your org is releasing is garbage. Well, you can say it, but nobody will care and it will only harm your reputation. Most VPs/Directors are just trying to release a product to make themselves look good and get a promotion; cancelling a release for any reason looks absolutely catastrophic on your reputation as a product leader.
This strategy of "just ship it" (yes, that is a real motto in the company for shipping products) works in software because if a product fails or sucks, nobody really cares and they just move to the next product. As long as the majority of your products are good, nobody will really notice. But it doesn't work in gaming because the customers are extremely passionate and will plaster your failure all over the internet for everyone to see.
I believe Microsoft is fundamentally incapable of running a successful gaming org because the engineering culture is clearly exactly the same as the rest of the company. I think when the gaming division was first created in the early 2000s and found unbelievable success with the Halo franchise and Xbox, the culture was separate and hadn't adopted the engineering culture of the rest of the company yet.
Hard to say but if reviewers/QA testers are low level employees obviously they're not just gonna go to the higher ups and say it product is shit. They don't pay them well enough for honesty lol
i never ever miss this upload man. i genuinely sit at work excited to come home and watch this while i eat dinner. never stop!
Top notch coverage!
Spencer's acknowledgement that their approach to studios they acquire needs to change is valuable. Bringing up support for titles that are still early in dev is a huge point here.
Mishandling what should have been huge wins like Halo Infinite and Redfall goes to show that their support has to be a stark warning.
The tire fire that is/was Fallout 76 still makes me laugh to remember, and that's not what you want.
except They've known that for a long time, but their wallets go blind to that sentiment. this is a post launch sentiment to try and appeal to consumers for forgiveness to soften the PR damage. don't buy their excuses either.
yes if only he hadn’t been in charge for the past ~9 years and for the ~6 years prior to that being the head of Microsoft Game Studios… it’s not like he hasn’t had a LONG time to learn these lessons
"Our shareholders are getting frustrated with our board and I'm worried I'll get fired from the board, i also love monopolies" is essentially what he's saying
One thing to also note is that Final fantasy 16 is having an event same day as the Xbox showcase day. June 11th

HEY! The Strong! Love seeing my hometown getting a shoutout!
FINALLY an accurate take on the interview! For the past few days I kept reading articles that felt untrue to the interview I had watched. Thank you for tackling the discrepancy head on. I was beginning to question my sanity. ❤
Phil's last statement is just something no one is saying. No one expects people to sell their PS5s if Starfield is a 11/10, but you'd bet a lot of people would engage with the Xbox ecosystem if it's a 11/10.
No, they wouldn't be selling a PS5... they would still go out an buy an XBox if it is that good. There isn't a law that says you can't own all 3 and a PC too boot!
Gamespot is failing its business model... cause people ain't trading in consoles anymore. :P
Exactly, the goal should be to get people to buy Xboxs, not to get them to sell their other consoles off for whatever reason lol
And the only way to do that is to have great games!
Yup. My friends and I said the same thing. What he said made no sense and putting a bad game like Redfall out, is almost the same as Sony releasing an amazing game. It makes Xbox fans wonder why the hell they own an Xbox or sub to game pass.
It's such a weird statement. People literally buy consoles for the great games released. People buy Nintendo consoles, despite how underpowered they are, because Nintendo has games people want. People buy PS4's or PS5's for exclusives, I bought a PS4 when Bloodborne came out and then I was engaged in that ecosystem.
@@Reydriel well for most people the only way they can buy an Xbox would be selling their ps5

Less than a month until the xbox showcase.

Yea where’s hellblade 2!?
The only surefire releases up to this point are Starfield and Hellblade 2 (The developer always releases consistent progress reports). The rest so far are just teasers or even news blackouts.
Okay, so this is a little thing, but big props to the editor for the timing on the edit at 23:43. It's perfectly aligned with the music in the background and that is really satisfying to watch. If it wasn't a deliberate choice, then that's just lucky, but I'm going to give props if it was.
I love your content and how well you go over the goods and bads of releasing games and news. It makes me want to see you review Star Citizen, giving a honest review of all the progress it’s made since it’s initial release and all its concepts and tech the team has been making to bring their vision to light. I don’t see many reviewers cover it after it’s release many years ago, which it’s changed dramatically since that time and is almost a completely different game going after an insane scale. Plus I think you’d really appreciate the insane detail they put into the game.
This news show is always scheduled viewing for me! I was hoping to see a shout-out for shadows of doubt dropping in early access last week. My God it's good, and is just early access! A shout out would be cool to get more eyes on it
I love how the interview ended. With phils most iconic legacy. Wait till e3, but in a slight diferent wording cuz he has been saying that for 10 years.
I just want to say thank you! I have been watching your videos for so long now, and they never disappoint. The weekly video game news has been an amazing addition to my week. Keep up the great work.
ShillUp, I don't comment often, but that knife throw to spaceship transition came outta nowhere and man was it satisfying... looks like the stand-up table is working wonders for Austin! :P
Great one again
Great episode as usual! Appreciate your reasonable reactions to the MS news.
An Arkane dev spoke up on Twitter and said once they were acquired by Microsoft their sales bonuses were removed as the game was automatically going to game pass, which meant a lot of the staff left and the remaining teams didn’t put in the required effort to make the game what it could’ve been.
Oh damn that’s awful
Sales bonuses have been always been a promise to motivate green developers into putting far more effort into a project than it will ever be worth. The bonuses almost never materialize in any meaningful way.
Sales bonuses are a scam, crunch away years of your life and maybe IF it breaks some sales milestones you get something
Interesting fact.
But to conclude that remainig teams didn't put in the required effort? Kind of blunt and unfunded.
If a company looses a lot of their core staff it is very likely the new teams are willing to step up but also very likely they need to grow in their new positions. Effort alone is not enough to fill a void and it is very likely that the first who left were also most talented.
@@chromesucks5299 Weird statement. Bonus is just a bonus, if your income depends strictly on bonus you negotiated a louzy contract or you are a gambler.
Always love your videos because they don't feel like the typical clickbait you get all the time.
Very balanced video. Thank you!
Arcane Studios isn't the same devs who made Dishonored apparently some of the core dev team left Arcane because they didn't like the takeover of Bethesda etc.
Dishonored was never made solely by Austin, it was developed by Austin&Lyon, Austin themselves made Prey and Prey: Mooncrash which are fucking amazing. The one importatnt figure that left was Raphael Colantiono and I think that his departure and Bethesda's push for multiplayer games (F76, Youngblood, Redfall) fucked Arkane over.
@@KingOfTheWiadro Yup. I don't think they've been the same since Raph left. Obviously he wasn't the only smart guy there, but those sorts of changes can have a cascading effect over every part of the company. Honestly makes me a little worried about Dan Houser's departure from Rockstar...
I loved Dishonored and Prey. Always wondered why there hasn't been anything that interested me ever since.
Great video. Thanks for showing Phil's whole quote
I don’t have an Xbox, I’m not much of a gamer anymore, I still watch skill up as much as i can but I hope Xbox fans are having fun with their games, I hope everyone is happy with their games. This day and age, everyone needs quality outlets for their everyday stress. So I support Phil spencer and his willingness to be candid on what’s going on, and I hope he gets it on track again, for the players.
Awesome show
You basically distilled like 2-3 hours worth of content into 40 minutes and it's always great.
There was a new game on gamepass called Ravenlok which is supposed to be awesome!
To everyone who has gamepass you should give it a try! I’ve seen people describe it as a Zelda-like but if it was set in an Alice and Wonderland sort of setting!
Hopefully you have a Zelda review coming later this week!
Ralph aka Skill Up 🆙 is the GOAT!!! Your gaming news is on fire 🔥
remember when you did that channel with that other Australian guy before you started skill up and now you’re on top of the video game news world. You’re a champ man
You mean Laymen Gaming? It's still active with Sam, he does daily streams.
Skill up being right in nearly every game review but still hard coping with destiny i can relate 5k hours still going
Phil’s interview showed a lot of guts. People may not love all his answers, but it took a lot to get up there and face the music rather than just stay silent or feign ignorance.
Hey Skill up have you heard about a game called Idol Showdown? Maybe this one could be a cool feel good story. It's a fighting game about V-tubers that is surprisingly competent, it's free to play and independently made by a bunch of fans. The game is fast, fun, pretty and a lot of fighting games players are trying it without knowing anything about the V-tubers. This had 200.000 downloads, 10.000 current player on the launch day and it was overwhelmingly positive reviews on streams. After the launch a bunch of the v-tubers offered to voice act their characters.
I feel like this is really cool project, made by really talented people that brought two very awesome communities closer together.
Great video
That just gave me a whole lot of respect for Phil Spencer. This kind of transparency is so refreshing to see.
_P.S: I don't think Ralph mentioned that Street Fighter 6 has an open beta next weekend (5/19 - 5/21)_
Why?
Redfall it's still awful
And Xbox's problems st managing their studios are still happening
Rip Halo xbots

Love this series!!
been playing star wars racer w my little bro he loves it
At present 8:16AM EST 10th of May 2023 in Australia there are 182 people playing on Steam world wide.
You're scripts have gotten really good, every video has been captivating.
As a long time sub of your channel (I still remember some of your first division guides), I'm so incredibly happy and proud to see how far you've come. You're by far my favorite creator in this field and you absolutely deserve the success and respect you've garnered over the years. Keep it up Ralph, happy road to 1 million
Wow Ralph worked at EB games!? That’s a cool evolution
27:52 The burn!
Nice.
Awesome video as always and thanks for covering the Uncle Phil interview properly and commenting on what he actually said rather than the clickbait, sensationalist headlines so many went for. It's that more balanced approach that's won you so many loyal subscribers - keep up the good work.
This is the highlight of my week every week. Thank you for your amazing content!
The Strong Museum of Play is an amazing place to visit if in the Rochester NY area. The 2nd floor arcade only is worth the price of admission. They are also expanding and worked with Nintendo on the world's largest arcade cabinet for Donkey Kong.
Lamon Gamon reunion opportunity here with this charity thing, (my own involvement was very little) my brother used to be more involved with a game charity called TSG back in the day, would have a gamer crew and a commentator crew to interact with chat while the gamer marathoned a game, but chat would also donate towards the charity fundraiser goals and sub-goals would be set where the commentator or gamer would have to do something silly or stunt-like. Good stuff and would love to donate regardless!
Man. Lately, I've been playing a ton of OG Xbox games and it is such a stark contrast back then compared to what Microsoft is doing now.
Edit: Also, you're officially my favorite gaming news channel on CZcams.
Just finished Panzer Dragoon Orta . They were on some proper stuff back then, for sure.
Project Gotham, never forget it.
What an upgrade from my Sega the OG Xbox was!
Same, I bought an OG Xbox and like 30 games this year with a focus on the exclusives and its wild what xbox doesn't even mention or touch.
Such underrated games like Crimson Skies and MechAssault. Heck, even Fable had such a promising beginning.
And the 360 alleviated Microsoft higher in the industry.
That's enough Redfall coverage for the year
Thank you
Thank you good sir
Thank you for the consitently great content and insight, especially regarding the Phil Spencer interview.
I love phil’s honesty, it’s refreshing as far as corporate figureheads go.
Great line!
The bar you have to clear gets that much higher, and the stakes for failing to clear it become that much more dire...
I’m pretty sure there are 2 Star Wars RTS titles, Empire and at War and Galactic Battlegrounds. Wish more people knew about Galactic Battlegrounds, it’s essentially Star Wars in the Age of Empires II engine and it’s super fun.
Galactic Battlegrounds was great, having little R2 units as your peasants and eventually setting loose jedi on the battlefield
Underwater building was also very fun
Thank you very much sir for showing up consistently with firm, objective views on the industry. I understood Phil’s words and views in the same long, infinite game, blue ocean mindset. For Xbox (and players) to win, Sony and Nintendo do not need to lose the CONSOLE race. For me, it is all about where we choose to spend our precious, limited game time on. The multiplatform, consumer friendly and forward thinking options Xbox has (specially for us in the 3rd World where resources are really hard earned) made it compelling to spend more game time in their ecosystem. Great games and exclusives are still highly important (the very reasons why I have a playstation, switch and PC) but it is not the only important thing anymore. Cheers to you sir, all the love and support from the Philippine Islands. 😊
"Nerf Gjallarhorn for one lucky winner" words we never thought we'd hear.
During that "hop, skip, and jump until Starfield", there's Armored Core 6 on August 25th! I damn good year for gaming indeed.
I didn't found time to redeem Kao, well, i will have to put the wallet and buy it, that game brings me memories.
As much as it it's easy to poke fun at Microsoft from time to time regarding their weird practices over the years, I've never once wanted the company to crash and burn because they have done some amazing things for gaming over the years. I mean, the 360 generation was such an amazing time for gaming... Red rings of death excluded, of course. So with regards to Redfall, I see that as more of Arkane's failings to deliver a product that was less open world Left 4 Dead and more Fortnite with vampires. That said, I still want to see great things coming out of for Xbox. And yeah, I completely understood what Phil said despite what so many pundits online kept misconstruing.
MS did great while trying to prove themselves during Gen 6 and 7. Once at the top they did exactly as expected back in the 90s by us enterprise professionals in DevOps because we've been dealing with their aggressive monetizing, draconian licensing forced by contracts: always online, required "ms certed" techs per # of users, insane renewal fees and minimal improvements and lazy patching that often causes network outages. Every place I worked we always had a lawyer especially for MS products. Many of us stuck with Unix and Linux because of their low quality at high prices. Now it's trickled into gaming and will get worse. Theyve been diabolical since they started and nothing would please me more than their downfall.
its dope hearing phil talk like a humble honest dude and not some typical corpo - other CEO's should learn something about addressing their customers from this
Any chance we can get an audio only feed for podcasts?
