Love will abide, take things in stride
Sounds like good advice but there's no one at my side
And time washes clean love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me but I don't know what it means.
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time
Caught in my fears
Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me when you never let me near
And I never drew one response from you
All the while you fell all over girls you never knew
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me for a long long time
Wait for the day
You'll go away
Knowing that you warned me of the price I'd have to pay
And life's full of flaws
Who knows the cause?
Living in the memory of a love that never was
Cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind
and I think I'm gonna miss you for a long long time
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time. - Hudba
From an aging boomer, welcome new generation to the magic of Linda Rondstadt. Thanks Last of Us.
this is the way
I'm not an 'aging boomer' but I really, really love this!
I loved this song so much on that show!
How about an old boomer?
Gives me chills hearing Nic Offerman's and now Ms Ronstadt's versions. Simply sublime
If Linda's voice doesn't reach right into to your heart...you've got no heart.
+kandy langford Amen to that...
+kandy langford Her eyes sort of help with that too.
Such as Hillary
Tuber me WHAT?
If Karen Carpenter's voice doesn't reach right into your soul......you haven't a soul.
I'm here because of the last of us. We loved Bill and Frank ♥️
Beautiful love story
Brilliant episode Brilliant series Brilliant song
I am here because of Linda. What a beautiful lady and voice!
If it weren't for this incredible technology- YOU TUBE- how would most of us ever known that Bobby Darin and Linda Ronstadt did this duet? What a treat to hear this, to see this live, to have had the privilege to see the two of them together on the same stage. Thanks for posting!
Great points...
Not really a duet. Did you watch it?
Yes! It's absolutely lovely.
Well not a vocal duet but touching nonetheless. I mean who knew Bobby Darin could play guitar? Certainly not me.
Linda is a true gem.
This song is so beautiful.
Linda Ronstadt has tears in her voice. I am proud to say that my generation gave the world some of the best music ever performed.
It certainly did
My favorite Linda Ronstadt song. Her voice touches my heart. I hope she's doing well.
Who's here because of the last of us episode 3 what a episode loved it
Same
Me
Not me, I have always been here. I knew who she was from waaay back when.
Muito sentimento na canção, chorei demais❤
I’m 80 and have several of her albums. Always loved her. So happy to see this wonderful song used in The Last of Us, I’m watching it with my 16 yr old grandson who has played Last of Us on his PlayStation and was very moved by episode 3.
When God gave out beauty and talent, she was near the top of the line.
+jimgag2 Better get those eyes checked.
John Allen
What are you blind?
She's fucking beautiful and you're an ignoramus.
J. A. .....you must be gay
She was so beautiful. But then, beauty cannot endure and will only fade. Still, the hauntingly beautiful and talented singer was such a delight.
She was probably first.
Voice of an angel, we won't likely see more Lindas or Karens.
So what you are saying is Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swuft won't be carrying on this vintage anytime soon.
Reggie Patrick Amy Winehouse.
Yes both their voices like velvet.
@@reggiepatrick5670 Exactly
Why?
I am dedicating this song to my sweet babygirl Nikki 😢 She passed away on Jan 2nd 2023💔 I'm never the same
Sooo sorry. My heart breaks for you.
That's a horrible start to the year, I'm sorry for your loss
I am so very sorry and know you will love her forever. God bless you
Sorry for your loss
I'm so sorry.
I often curse the Internet but thank God for CZcams and stuff like this!
+Michael Walker I am so sick and lonely today, but I have all this incredible music on CZcams. Linda Ronstadt could SING! I saw her so very long ago at then San Jose State University, in the gymnasium. Boy did she go far.
So true
@@gracie30ish yes, so true.
Yes, so true.
Yes, so true.
if some one came out today, and sang in a voice like this, so pure and sweet and true, and lyrics so open, so stripped of "attitude" or "edge" or "irony".... would ears and brains even know how to respond, what to do? makes you wonder...think the world and the culture might be too brittle and hardened now, to accept...
Wood ears. Funny.
Sadly perceptive Sir. Thank you for these words.
What an interesting comment and question. I think the answer might be depressing. I do think the world has moved on hugely from this sort of sound and sentiment. At college I knew girls, not girl-power, and my friends and I did experience unrequited love and would have responded to a song like this. As you say, so open. The attitude came later although, even back then, we may have been capable of irony. I don't think we were as hardened as people are now. We were politer and. oh, so less loud.
Linda's voice is a wonder and she does make today's "divas" sound either harsh, loud and brash or impossibly girly and contrived. She dealt in emotion, not emoting.
una mckillen
Yeah, the times are louder, harder, more reactive : UNREQUITED LOVE nowadays will get you stalked, and dissed online, and quite possibly shot : a woman was shot and killed in a club last week : she wouldn't give her phone number to the guy.
iamintheburg I don't know what to say. I am shocked. In my day (and maybe I am being hopelessly, stupidly romantic here) unrequited love meant that. It was a quiet, subdued, secret thing. It was not a thing that got you killed. Someone had a secret crush; not a murderous impulse. The Times They Are A Changing.
Ms. Ronstadt singing is like a fine wine that improves with age. When I first heard her fifty-plus years ago, I was blown away. Now, I watch her and listen and shake my head and think how lucky we were, and how lucky we are, that she appeared on this Earth and sang for us.
you are so right, one of the greatest voices of all time
tinkerly1 Well said.
Different Drum with The Stone Ponys was her first hit. It and You're No Good are two of my faves. Having an older sister in the 70s ensured that I got to enjoy all her hits! Lol
It's hard to believe that it's been 50 years since Linda recorded this wonderful song.
She's still one of my favorites..her voice is simply angelic..
I can believe it. Music today isn't really music. Linda had more talent in her pinky than these singers today using a synthesizer a beat and 3 or 4 repetitive chords. Pathetic what music was allowed to become for this generation.
Oh god, were really showing our age. 50 years. doesn't seem possible.
And, what a difference in everything. This music is not appreciated now and our values are totally out of whack.
@@timjohnson1199 cheer the f up! Jeeeeez.
We old folks know and love Linda well, always have. Blue Bayou is a favorite of mine.
Blue bayou is masterful. That song helped me survive the extreme homesickness of my first two years in college!! Probably helped me make the decision to return to NYC and finish my B.A. in the city! Thank you Linda! A woman from Tucson singing a song about Louisiana that helped a girl from the Bronx. Pure awesomeness! 🎵🎶🗽🎶🎵🦋
Not all!
As a child, I listened to this and cried. Not due to being sad--I was not able understand, just to the pure beauty of this song and that voice. The pain in her voice is still amazing....this and Janis Ian's "At 17" still do this. I still don't see how she stood in a crowd and sounded as if she was baring her soul.
I cried the first time I heard this song as well (15 at the time) because her voice was so beautiful and heartbreaking. I was worried my mom would see me crying and I would have to explain that I was crying over a song! Lol
@@carolecosta4241 Music brings people to tears all the time, excepting those lacking natural feelings, I was 19 at the time. Nilssons "Without You" did it for me.
The greatest singers, are the ones who can get across the feeling of their song, to their audience. Linda had that, in spades. Then when you add that incredible voice, there's nothing, no one, that can top it.
Yes, I was about 17 when that song came out, and I felt anguish for girls that must have lived through that. Chances are, they ended up in long marriages and lived happier lives than the queens,
Other songs to make you cry: "Whoever Finds This, I Love You," by Mac Davis and "Honey," by Bobby Goldsboro.
I was lucky enough to see her sing this song at the Troubadour in the early 70’s.
How was the Troubadour?
As flashy and as filled with raw emotional musical talent as Bobby Darin was, he did a brilliant minimalist guitar accompaniment that showed Linda at her very best.
@Steven Wilshusen and Darin was actually a much better vocalist and all around musician than he ever got credit for.
Part of the reason he never made it any bigger than he did was because of his painful perfectionism. He wouldn't release anything....
Bobby’s guitar playing is the perfect accompaniment to Linda’s voice for this song. Both absolutely beautiful and soulful.
@@MelissaThompson432 I am always finding Darin songs on youtube I never heard before. He released plenty...
@@MelissaThompson432 You are kidding aren't you? Bobby Darin was a massive star at that time. He had his own shows, starred in films, and won 2 Grammys. Everything Bobby did turned to gold
@@skygazer6898 ah, you're quite right. I should have said he had a small output as long as he was being a perfectionist and putting out top 10 records. After 1962, when he stopped working so hard at it, he put out dozens of records that did very poorly.
Oh my sweet GOD..... I HAD NO IDEA THEY EVEN KNEW EACH OTHER!! THIS. IS A PRICELESS TREASURE !! THANK YOU FOR THIS PRECIOUS GIFT... HERE I AM, IN 2019 A.NYONE? MY FAMILY IS ALL GONE. I AM HERE, ALONE. ALIVE. AND REMEMBERING.....THANK YOU, JESUS FOR THE STRENGTH.
This was towards the end of Bobby Darin's life, and was seriously ill at this recording. If you look you can see the audience distracted at about 2:19 when he can't continue and leaves the stage
Sasha, sounds like this is kinda yer song, hang in there Jesus surely does love you & me too kid
@@andrewkling9530 If Darin left, who played guitar? He was the only guitar player I saw. Plus, it would be hard to make the transition seamlessly to another guitarist.
Hugs, and hoping you are still out there, somewhere, Sasha. ♥
Darin was as eclectic as you can possibly get. From big band singing to acoustic guitar. Died young.
I agree Robert. Not with this generation. I'm sad to say this music is gone forever. We were lucky to witness a fantastic musical generation. Wouldn't have missed it for the world!!!!!!!
Totally agree... as much as I sometimes wish I wasn't... (cough).. 49 years old... one thing I am soooooo happy about is the fact that I knew GOOD music... and growing up I heard GREAT music.... I feel so bad for the kids of the last 20 years or so... nothing but negative, talentless, over-produced, auto-tuned crap.....
Karen Starks You are so right Karen! I'm also glad I grew up when music was good and great. And I feel bad for kids today for the same reasons you stated! It must suck to be a kid today!
Anita Zenobia pretty much sucks to be a kid in any generation...
True enough!
Charlie Drummond I dis-agree, Charlie.... being a kid in the 70's was fantastic! Music, fashion, and the whole 'vibe' of the 70's was upbeat and fun! The music was diverse... I would go back to those days in a minute!!!!
I think this is my favorite Linda song. Of many many great ones. But something touches my heart when she sings this one.
From 4:18 to 4:26, the young man at the lower left at first seemed to me to be bored, but after a few more viewings I realized he was crying. This is a testament to the powerful emotions that Ms. Ronstadt could elicit. Just beautiful!
Not much left to be said that hasn't been said before...just stunning! Tragic, that Darin died so young and Linda will never sing again. That's what makes this so bittersweet. Tear as I write...
My God, what a voice. My favorite song of hers, bar none.
I'm getting to be an old man now but this song reminds me of every love, real and imagined, I've lost in my life. Blinking back tears indeed.
Live or Studio, it does not matter ... she is just that good ! 💖
Livin' in the memory of a love that never was...
One of the saddest and most beautiful songs out there, IMO.
Saw her open for Neil Young's Harvest tour in '73 right before she made it huge. We're a bunch of 18 year old acid freaks, get this country chick off the stage, we wanna hear electric Cowgirl in the Sand. For her last number she did this song. A capella. We just stood there with our mouths open, riveted, you could've heard a pin drop. It opened a whole new musical world to me.
No auto tune. No lipsynch.
Just talent.
Just idiocy from you. What's wrong with auto-tune?
Her singing this always makes me cry.
+Craig McIntosh Me too.
+Craig McIntosh I think her voice is #1 when it comes to women.
That's allowed.
Just don't cut onions while listening to this song
I cry when I hear her... I saw her at the 14th st playhouse in NYC in '69. What a beautiful show...and performer!
So did the guy at 4:17! How touching!
Never knew Bobby was such a good guitarist, unfortunately he didn't have much longer to go. Linda was like Billie Holiday and Patsy Cline, she could make grown men cry!
He also played piano and drums.
I didn't know he was a guitarist. Thought he was just a crooner
This is so beautiful. Wow.
@@connievino4226 Bobby Darin could do it ALL...Sing, dance, act, play instruments, write music, do impressions. He actually received an Oscar nomination for his role in "Captain Newman, MD"...Plus he had charisma to spare! 🎶
One of the greatest vocal performances you will ever hear is Linda on this song. Nothing is overdone for effect, alternating between powerful and soft, yet perfectly balanced at all times. If you couldn't speak English, I think you'd still be crying before the end of this song.
Bobby Darin was a legend, he stood up for his freedom and was a peaceful man.
B.S.
What is cool is how Bobby Darin gave her the stage! He didn't live too many years after this. Two insane talents!
Bobby Darrin’s guitar compliments Linda’s voice beautifully.
Young Linda in the early 70s making music with legends such as Bobby Darin, Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell. At the time even established stars knew young Linda knew her stuff and had the musical chops.
Love every single song Linda sings, blessed to be one of her passionate fans, love you forever Linda, you are the best
These song's are from our 60's 70's...beautiful
grew up listening to Linda and others from late 60's, 1970's best music
that's how long linda has been around she is with bobby darin singing this..god bless you homie from the Bronx who passed away at 39 going into heart surgery I still listen to your songs especially dream lover bobby d.
He was 37 when he died.
Me too Daniel Viola...I loved Bobby Darin, his music, songs, movies, good actor..pressure point with sidney poiter(who is the psychiatrist at the prison) if you haven't seen this movie buy it on Amazon Bobby D. is fantastic in it...plays a nazi type kkk young man..
Have you heard Darin’s version of Misty Roses? So beautiful.
He’s one of my favorite singers, one of the most talented musicians too. He played a slew of instruments as I understand. Loved his “Beyond the Sea”...
@@libertychick3522 Did you know that Darin was in Mesa the organization for people with extremely high IQ's?

*+Moses Sofer* That's nice to read! So I'm not alone . . .
Two wonderful artists collaborate on a great rendition
Both hugely talented, he sang and played several instruments, he left us too soon! She sang like angels watching over us! Miss her voice.
Beautiful lady - and Bobby's no slouch, either.
Nothing makes the peanut butter stick to the roof of your mouth like unrequited love.
-- Charlie Brown
Extraordinary. Heartbreaking and beautiful.
This song reminds me of my young days.
As a man, Am I a lucky man?
I dated a woman in my 20s. She, who became a school teacher after my military service, visited me and said she could not forget me. But I sent her away...... At that time I was studying for something. Recently, I'm glad to hear that she has been living well after years and years.
Without a doubt, one of the greatest singers of all time. Not only a magnificent voice, but how she projects the feelings of the song. As someone has said previously, when she sings a sad ballad like this one, there is a tear in voice. WHAT AN ARTIST!!!
yep she is..
A million guys and I were in love with Linda during her career. Jerry Brown had her attention and didn't appreciate what a fabulous woman he had.
My God, she was so damn gorgeous...and a great voice also...
Didn't know Darin could play guitar so well.
Bobby Darin played drums, piano, guitar, harmonica and xylophone
Oh yeah..and he was in ill health at this time..
Bobby Darin was a member of the "Mensa club" which is a worldwide organization of highly intelligent people with high IQ's. Darin could play any instrument, write songs, dance, acting, and was able to memorize just about anything...he could pick up any instrument and play it.
This is about the most beautiful and sad heartbreak song ever written. Hearing it with excellent guitar of Bobby Darin and the lovely fluid voice of LInda is so wonderful.
She is singing from her heart and soul...she moves me to tears because I feel what she is singing. So many today do the vocal gymnastics and have no connection to the lyric or their hearts.
Did this on my 12's just before going into the service..back in 70.. still tears me up to hear Bobby and Linda when they first did this..
I had no idea Bobby Darin (one of my favorite vocalists) played guitar. And Linda Rondstadt is an American vocal master. I like how they used flute in place of the harpsichord (that itself was an incredibly original addition to a pop song). Thank you santadude and CZcams!
Starting with "Abraham, Martin and John" he changed his career from a pop idol, one of the Bobbies from the 50s, to a 60s singer-songwriter. Very successfully, tragic he died so young....
You know, Linda played a little guitar as well.
Maybe that's a recorder?
He was writing songs from the beginning. The legend was that he wrote Splish Splash in a half hour on a dare that he couldn't write a song about taking a bath.He was an all around talent and a great showman in the old tradition.@@paulluchter137
A great song by one the best pop/rock singers ever.
As I recall the press, he said a bit later that he realized that the only thing left for him to do in that song was get off the stage. Darin was a pro, and realized that Linda was lost in the music and had the audience under control. The only thing for a pro to do is step back and let it happen.
I haven't seen her perform live since she was a high school kid doing coffeehouses in Tucson with her brothers in the mid-60s, but even then she could make you feel the song, not just hear it.
The simple, soulful beauty of this rendition is exquisite.
When you hear this song after you have some years behind you it becomes even more poignant. Some things only years can give you. Bless.
Old is gold
Linda Ronstadt and Bobby Darin... Awesome! Great upload!!
A timeless song made even more enduring by Linda's passionate voice and phrasing that'd make Frankie Sinatra envious.
+Ken Klanicki Yeah, and Bobby Darin was pretty good, too.
Interesting what you said. Linda was a very big fan of Frank Sinatra music. She would listen to his songs/recordings every night.
Marcia Bramson but you know who Sinatra loved the most; Karen Carpenter. He even played a harmonica intro for her.
@@haywoodjablome234
Wow wow ,,,,,, nice to know. We saw Sinatra here, my town, Chicago. Was a great event. Even back then, mammoth screens were obviously constructed. Gave away all my FS albums. Still have CD's. Love 🎶 hanging on to my Christmas 🎶 music. Every holiday I play The Carpenters. To hear Karen's voice is so so magical. Amazing sound.
Would have been interesting to have seen her and Frank do a duet.
What an absolutely incredible voice!

Anyone that doesn't like Linda's voice is flat out dillusional and clueless of course no surprise we live in a world full of miserable haters envy , selfishness and judging, rules this fallen world you can never please everybody there will always be that one person who is negative and judgemental towards an icon it's all good the majority wins by a landslide just a few haters we will always have those God bless you Linda you inspired so many artists of today linda what A Gem she was priceless voice !!💪❤️😊

No downvotes for the video so why so angry?
One word: Breathtaking.
Simply beautiful.
An unmatched canon of a voice..... powerful, yet delicate and so expressive. Linda is one of the greatest talents of her era....and any era.
First heard “Different Drum” in 1967 on a car radio. Remember exactly where and when. Impressive voice. Most rock stars fail when they inevitably go back to the standards. Not Linda. Her album with Nelson Riddle still abides. God bless her.
Linda sung this ballad with such beauty, grace, and emotion in its unfiltered purity and simplicity. It is a terrible tragedy that her illness has taken away her voice from the world.
Pure vocal beauty. Intense clarity. Because Linda was a stadium platinum super star from 1974 thru the early 90s, when she gave up the arenas and celebrity by choice, to raise her kids and focus purely on the music, it took awhile to comeback to the universal realization of just what a phenomenal vocal instrument she blessed us with. Linda now and forever.

💖She sings like an angel.
Wow wow wow 👏 I am a huge Linda Ronstadt fan. This is great.
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦🙏🕊
Bobby Darin was so talented and versatile artist.
She was so beautiful and a great singer. Yes, it’s hard to compare greatness. Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter, Helen Reddy, and on and on from the 69’s and early 70’s. Their talent will never be matched. Not only that, but the quality of the lyrics and melodies. It just isn’t there today.
Love them both! Its so sad that she can't sing any longer, What a beautiful voice she has. Bobby was never given the recognition he deserved in life, He was an incredible artist and was never recognized for his talent as he should have been.
I am in total agreement. Darin was highly credible in every phase of his career - rocker, big band stylist and singer-songwriter. And Linda - ah, Linda! Glad to have seen this post; thank you.
Bobby Darin achieved quite a bit of recognition, considering he only lived to the age of 37..
Bobby always knew he had a congenital heart condition and probably wouldn't live to a ripe old age
so he vowed to live life to the fullest in the short time he knew he had. He could do it all: singer, multi
instrumentalist, song writer, band leader, actor and entertainer extraordinaire. Despite his many
accomplishments he had barely scratched the service of his incredible talent.
Absolutely!!!
I am about the same age as Linda Ronstadt. I grew up during that most exciting time in music history. Thank you Linda for giving us your beautiful voice. Was as is now still a lasting impression. Stay well.

I have always loved Linda Ronstadt’s rendition of this song. Never knew about this duet till now. Thank you for sharing.
Her vocal range and the crispness and clarity of Linda's voice is simply amazing! Linda was a superstar back in the late 60's and early 70's. The Eagle's credit Linda with encouraging them to form up back in the early 1970's when Don Henley and Glen Frey were working in Linda's backup band. Linda supported their decision to create The Eagles and remain friends with them to this day. She also had a hand in writing and helping to write some of their early songs.
