If you’re interested in vintage Gillettes, you must have a Fatboy, not because of the hype around it, but because of why there is so much hype around it. It’s undeniably one of the best razors ever made. Also look at the open comb Sheridans. Both provide an amazing shave. And BTW, The Sheridan is no where near as aggressive as some make it out to be. Not sure I would even call it aggressive. Two of my favorites.

I've been using a DE shaver that I bought on amazon for very little money (I want to say less than 20 bucks) for about five years now. It's been perfect for me. I can even do completely dry trims on the cheeks just to edge up a bit with no problems. The very best part though, is that I HAVE NEVER CHANGED BLADES. If you open the thing up, take the razor out, rinse it and dry it completely the blade won't go bad. FIVE YEARS on a 20 dollar setup. That's an incredible value! Stop listening to the big corps that want to bleed you dry and start being responsible to yourself and your environment. Completely recommend.

I would agree that the KCG is a pretty good razor. And it's extra cool that Gillette now has sold two new razor models in the past 2-3 years. I do prefer the Heritage - mostly because of the packaging and I don't need that extra long handle. But KCG is well balanced for that length handle and as you say the knurling sits where it's needed and works well. I wouldn't dig at the 34C (or 34G, same but in gold) as I see that as the standard which all other razors are measured against - and few fare well in the comparison. I hold my 34C (and 34G) ahead of both these new Gillettes, but they are good razors. Also, mild or more efficient ("aggressive" I use when what I used makes my neck turn red), I have almost never used a razor that didn't do the job in three passes. I do three with more efficient razor and I do three with mild ones. You just have to have an even lighter touch on the more efficient ones with more blade feel.

Really enjoy your videos. After many years of shaving with a Norelco I am just learning to shave with a cartridge razor. I Just got the King C DE razor since it was about $5.00 off. I will wait until I get a little more confidence shaving with a blade. Thinking of getting the Viking Emperor adjustable if the King C does not work for me. Have You used a Viking Emperor? Would love to see you do a video the Viking Emperor.

Just picked it up from Walgreens. Took a shower and used it right after.
As someone who struggles with ingrown hairs, this razor along with the clear shaving gel might just be my saving grace 😭😭
    It cuts so dang smooth.

Try the Aqua Velva Musk aftershave , if you haven’t already. A true classic which i think you’ll enjoy. It’s easy available in stores here in Vancouver and hopefully it is in Austin too.

  • @EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art

I was eager to try a safety razor for the first time in 43 years of wet shaving. Always shaved with cartridge razors. So I went to the drugstore here in the Netherlands and I bought the last King C Gillette and I got a 50% discount. so I paid $7,60. I shave for a week now, and I like it. I noticed I need to be more careful then the normal Mach III or Fusion.
It is all in how good the Lather is also. I thought I needed a better more mild Razor like a Muhle R89. But seeing your video here. I see that the Gillette is already a decent one to shave with. . Thanks!

i think you won me over to give these ones a try, i generally hate shaving bc of the irritation i get... and i tried different kinds of cartridge, i even have a van der Hagen de. maybe it's my technique that's causing it, but ill give shaving a chance after not having done it for over a year

I mentioned to my wife that I was thinking about switching to a safety razor (have been using a Schick Quattro for quite some time) and she surprised me by buying me one of these. I have used it twice now.
First impression/ first use: I was concerned I'd cut myself, but it went fine. The shave felt ook, but I didn't think it was really any closer than my Quatro.
Second use: I made 3 passes (top down, bottom up, side to side) and I still don't find it's any closer than my old razor. It did, however, irritate my skin a bit. I also noticed that in some spots (mostly my neck) it seemed to bounce along my skin.
I will continue to experiment. I don't know if I am using too much pressure, too little, or doing something else wrong.
Overall, it's ok. It is better for the environment and will save me money so that's good.

    • @w.alan.21

Doesn't 3 passes defeat the purpose of using a single blade instead of a 3-blade razor/cartridge?

    • @johnpeters482
      @johnpeters482 Před 3 lety

Not in my opinion. Using a single blade reduces ingrown hairs and razor burn. When you shave in passes, you should first shave with the grain, then across the grain, and finally against the grain (if your face can tolerate it).

  • @justordinaryeverydaylife7977

That is exactly the intent of that razor, hopping those used to long handle carts into the DE world with a known brand. The Heritage is a nice cornerstone to welcoming the DE gurus back into Gillette’s ballpark. I would like to see a classic throwback. I think we are all ready, and people would pay the price, I would like to see Made in USA on them as well. But for now the good old vintage Gillette razors still own the game.

I got this razor. I had a week of nicks and cuts specially above the neck and chin. Not to mention the mustache area. I then started watching videos such as yours and other videos and kept shaving. Fast forward two months and I get a really good shave out of the King Gillette. Nicks are uncommon now, usually with a fresh blade, but minor. I originally used the Darby brand. Now I am using Gillette Wilkinson which I really love. I don't have any experience with any other razor blades. The above mentioned came from India for 6.99 for 100 blades. I also in the beginning used regular shaving cream but now I use a badger brush and soap. I love shaving with a double edge razor. I feel like I've been robbed all these years earlier using the disposable kind. Because I live in CA school district, we still wear masks. So, I shave then put on a mask!? On June 12 masks will come off so I can share my baby smooth face. ML

€15 at local grocery store here last week. Works great. Just back to basic; I'm so fed up with all those hyper tech shaving mumbo jumbo (ie fusion blades) another €15 for 100 blades and I'm set for at least a year. And if I need new ones, I order them without pondering my head what holder fits with what blades!
