I’m a razor snob and I have many of the high end offerings, I also heavily use RazoRock but I bought one of these, tried it and was blown away - an excellent shave every bit as good as my Game Changer .68, Rockwell 6S plate 3, Charcoal Level 2, RazoRock MJ-90A (which is the Jagger DE89), and the 34c, DE89 and R89. My Karve is a bit more smooth but wow this really is a good shaver!

Mark, i got a King C Gillette a couple months ago ans started using it. I do not understand why people are saying it is a bad razor at all. I bought mine from Ebay for $17 i think and i must say i get some of my best shaves with it. I am trying different blades on different razors and rating them in order to know which blades i like most and work best with which razor. So far, all the blades work fantastic with the King C whereas with my other razors, including vintages, some blades do not work as well. So in my humble opinion, the King C Gillette is really an awesome razor, especially for the money. In addition, i have no issues holding, even when my hand is a bit wet. I would recommend that razor to anyone, novices and pros. Thanks for the videos, i really appreciate them. Stay safe and healthy. LMP

IIRC the head is in fact made by the same german company. I got one on super clearance for just $9 yesterday, can't wait to use it. Kind of funny how in the marketing it just talks up the beard edging and sideburns uses instead of explicit shaving, they definitely want people to still buy their cartridge razors too lol. The handle kind of feels inspired a bit by modern cartridge razor handles, in a good way.

Hi Mark. I bought this safety razor just to try it. Normally I only use three stainless steel razors: Razorock BBS OC, the HomelikeShaving Colibi OC and the Edwin jagger 3ONE6, considering all of those three the best safety razors in the world. Nevertheless, the cheap King C. Gillette surprised me. I think it's quite a good razor. The shaving results are quite good. What I don't like is the pattern on the handle - it's spiral shaped and too short, which makes the handle quite slippery and uncomfortable to hold. But my skin does like the shave. I think it could be interesting to try the King C. Gillette head combined with the Heritage handle. I can't try it because I don't have the Heritage.

great review! its my first DE razor. and i'm using it for like a month now.
it was the first razor that popped up when i was looking for a safety razor on a Belgian website, since i'm from Belgium.
the main reason i switched was because i had ingrown hairs and skin irritation. and i did some research on google, and it said i should switch to DE shaving.
i didn't even know that Gillette DE razors where rare or uncommon. but now i know since most people shave with "muhle" or something.
also, my great grandfather that passed away quite recently had almost everything from the brand "Tabac" like; aftershave, deodorant, shower lotion. he liked the fragrance.
since i'm only 23. and just got into safety razors, i'm really happy to see that you are satisfied with it. makes me glad i bought it. and i myself like it a lot too!

I used to hate shaving but bought a brush and a razor and tried to make it more enjoyable. 30 years on and I am now really into it with a small but growing collection of 12 razors, 8 brushes and numerous soaps. I finally found a Walgreen's in my area that had one. They were sold out in many Walgreen's. To me, that means DE Wet shave is coming back. I agree with you, I was pleasantly surprised how nice the shave was. I also have the Heritage and it does a nice job, too. People will say that the "heads" are the same but they are not. The cross section of the head is different. Again, I enjoyed my shave with the King C. and also love the shaves I have with my Heritage. I don't need super aggressive razors. If I need, I will give a touch up where needed.

I bought one of these, but it is just too mild for me to get a close shave. I have to swap razors that is more aggressive to finish up. Am I doing something wrong here? I really like the feel of the razor, but frustrated with lack of performance because my beard is so heavy. Any suggestions? BTW, make sure if you buy the Gillette replacement blades at Walgreens that there is actually something in the box you buy. I bought three boxes of the replacement blades and got home and all three boxes were empty. Shop lifters have figured out that you can peel back the clear tape, steel the blades and seal the box back up as if new.

Your recommendation, & 2. this was the same brand & type of DE Razor that was found in the recovery of items on the R.M.S. Titanic. My first shave with it was this morning. I like the weight. Thanks to your primer on how to wet shave with a DE Safety Razor. It should be required viewing for everyone getting into DE wet shaving. I got a really close shave with it and it IS a different experience from shaving with a cartridge razor. • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 3 lety +1

Hi, TechPoint. I think they are both about the same. the Heritage has a more traditional handle and I think, for a new shaver, would be better...more knurling, better grasp, etc. Also, I'm reviewing a new razor head set from West Coat Shaving and am very impressed with it. It's from Charcoal Goods and has three different base plates giving the shaver three different aggression levels. But the Lithe plate is very mild and efficient. The cap has a triangular shape that really forces the shaver to maintain the 30 degree angle. It's on sale now for only $14.98.
      www.westcoastshaving.com/products/wcs-razor-head-set?_pos=1&_sid=058f9aec2&_ss=r
You can pick up a SS handle for a sale price of $10.19.
      www.westcoastshaving.com/collections/safety-razor-parts/products/wcs-classic-collection-stainless-steel-razor-handles
So for a little over $25.00, you can have three different safety razors, one which, IMHO, is perfect for a beginner wet shaver. I'll be editing my review and hope to get it posted soon. We'll see.
On Amazon, the Heritage is $35.00. A good razor, to be sure.:) German made razor head by Muhle (as some wet shavers suspect) and an American made handle. You may want to see if it goes on sale again on Cyber Monday. It was ten bucks off on Black Friday. But history tells us that once they sell out the heritage, it takes some time to offer it again.
I hope I didn't confuse you...Just giving you some options.

Mild, smooth and a little more efficient than the 34C IMHO.:) the 34C is a great razor for beginners, though. It has a narrower shave angle, IMHO. This means you have to be a bit more precise in consistently hitting that angle in order to get maximum efficiency form the razor. But, a great razor to learn how to do the traditional wet shave and handle a safety razor. no doubt. Other razors have a little wider angle of approach, so to speak. so, you can be off a bit and still get a fine shave. Again, this all IMHO and what I've experienced in using both razors.:) YMMV.:)

Hi, Mike. Both razors are nice. It comes down to, I think, size and weight of the handle. Heritage gives a great shave!:) KCG is very good too. But some wet shavers, perhaps, prefer a more standard length handle in the Heritage.:)

Christopher, I'm not familiar with Dettol. For my razors, I've learned from viewers to clean my razors with mild detergent soap and a soft cloth or VERY soft brush.

If the head is the same as the Heritage, then the shave results would be too mild for me. I've not found anything better for me than a Fatboy or Slim Adjust etc at setting 9. Best shave results for me.
The Heritage and this are definitely the perfect beginner DE shaver though. I'd certainly recommend the Heritage for any beginner.

Hi, kronomarine. You dial up a Slim/Fatboy into an area I can only dream about.:) Very glad it works for you. I agree, the KCG is a good razor for beginner due to its mild quality.:)

Strange...the way you got your razor is exactly the way I got mine today: last one, didn't saw it because it was laying down!
But the packaging is copper not gold.

Hi, Anthony Lowder. Weird coincidence for sure. Maybe it's the way the dispplay was made? The last one simply lays flat because the other razors aren't there for support?
Copper? Okay, I stand corrected.:) Thanks.:)

My understanding is.... it's a Chinese made handle (doesn't mean it's necessarily of low quality and also it might mean made in Taiwan and they made good quality stuff these days) a Muhle head, and Russian Astra blades.

David, yes, others would agree with you. However, as you probably know, you can always wet the fingers, rub across an alum block, and this will increase the stickiness of your grip.:)

Could be a marketing tactic, people see there is only 1 left and feel more compelled to buy one. "I better buy it or someone else will, theres only one left" But they probably have 10 more in the back room lol.

Anthony Vincent says in his review that he'd heard each store only has one, and the Daly Shave claimed to have gotten the last one as well. If they're in a special display I wouldn't at all be surprised if that were their tactic. That's pretty classic scarcity marketing.
