Disposable Straight Razors! (Also, the Worst Cut I've Ever Given Myself While Shaving) WARNING:Blood

- Oh boy, if you don’t like the sight of blood, don’t watch this video. I came across these disposable straight razors (shavettes) and had to give them a try. I was being careless and sliced my chin more than I ever have since I started shaving when I was young. It’s not too bad, but it bleeds like a stuck pig. These razors are pretty good, but I guess that shavettes are not for me! So, you’ve been warned, but watch if you want to see me do a number on my face.

I'm surprised you don't have a styptic pencil or an alum block for cuts. They're pennies and saved me a ton when I first started out shaving with a DE.

Disposable straight razor kinda defeats the purpose of having a straight razor
@@Bungle2010 Probably only good to show a newcomer in case he's reluctant to invest on straight razor shaving. And yet the touch will probably be completely different. With that shape they won't accept it in airports either, so what's the use...
@@gnordache4405 check in my dude. You can out in luggage
They're good for newcomers, these disposable straight razors are ultra cheap (the razor and the actual blade) and you don't have to maintain them, just chuck out the razor and insert a new one in

Usually used it for shaving the head of people after they do umrah or Hajj (an Islamic pilgrimage).
The reason why they used disposable razor is because of speed and for health concern, 1 barber can do up to 10-12 head in an hour and everyday it can be hundred thousand if not more people shaving their head.
I know, changing the blades is now even take a minute but I guess it's for convenience and also speed.
If you curious what's it's like, just "tahallul" on CZcams.
As someone who’s been shaving with shavettes since I was 18, I never understood why many guys are scared of them. After watching this video, I understand why😂😂😂😂😂
I’ve never cut myself that deeply, I have cut myself plenty if times with my shavette, never like that though
That’s cool. I’m just getting into straight razor shaving, and loving it. I’m taking it slow, learning how to strop and hone, and other care for the razor, as well as getting the technique down. Trying to get ambidextrous shaves, but that is taking some time to master.
For now doing one straight razor pass, and one DE pass, for an almost baby smooth experience. (Pretty sure I can get away with a third pass, for perfect shave, but don’t care to try it).
“Hey heh, you know those late night searches”
Oh yes, I very much do
Moi?!
I was shaving when in the military and someone came pounding on my door. It cause me to turn my head and my left side had a nice slash across my cheek. Turns out the guy was at the wrong door.
Atleast you have a cool scar now ( maybe) “yeah, I fought a tire with one single incredibly sharp claw”
I remember the same with my daughter. She came in the bathroom and yelled PAPA!! And it caused me to cut my chin and made me spill my old spice after shave I left open. Live and and learn lock the doors lol.
@@Mikey-ym6okDid your daughter survive your rath😂
I kept saying "Use a balm", however you somehow managed to avoid a Ken Surfs style "there's the burn". I too learned at a very early stage not to be shaving at the same time as moving the skin! Great advert for Alum right there 👍
Alum saved me!
I really hope and pray your Chanel blows up what you do is amazing you taught me how to shave and got me into safety razors thank you so much
Thanks!
says I shouldn’t talk wile I shave with this... continues talking.
I’m a glutton for punishment.
BTW, you just firmly reinforced my motivation to keep growing my winter beard!
Ha!
Dear @SinatraLennon thank you for starting this channel, i always suffered with the pain of buying multiple diposables gillete razors, shaving was a pain that i always could try to avoid. Now i enjoy shaving myself with a safety razor, it's a complete experience, preparing the soap, the safety razor, washing, the money saving. You literally taught me how to shave and i'm proud of it, thank you!
Wow, that’s great! I’m so glad that you let me know about this. Isn’t it crazy how a simple razor can change something from painful to enjoyable?!
Imagine shaving like this with a cracked mirror and bombs going off in the background during war time. No I can't imagine it....
Because of you I started really enjoying shaving, and started using barbasol. I use the merker 34c and feathers. Time for a straight razor now.
I flinched even more when you folded the thing together after the shave! (Looked like you closed it with the blade right on your hand!)
I was careful!
Sinatralennon, the man with the golden voice! Luv ur vids!
Thanks Stefan!
Sir.
As a 2nd generation barber from the infamous 8 mile road in Detroit Michigan.
Shavettes are not as forgiving as straight razors. They are harder to use than regular straight razors. And barbers normally use shavettes just for hair lines. You can do a full shave with a shavette. But a straight razor is easier to use.
Food for thought.
Agreed! This is my second bloody run in with a shavette and it probably will be my last.
I use a shavette myself to clean up around my beard between barber visits. I've gotten a couple of pretty nasty cuts like that, but they do the job so well!
Watching the cut part with The Police's "Mother" as background sound is a peculiar, yet powerful combination
I enjoy your videos. They're informative and entertaining. I've watched your video of you using the chella cool aftershave a number of times. Laughed so much at your reaction. Really glad you didn't use it after this video. Keep up the good work. Andrew. South Wales. UK.
That Chella hurts!
Dang! It hurt just watching that! Gave me chills. I've never tried Fine aftershaves either. I might have to look those up.
I know! Once I felt that slip I knew what I was in for.
Once i tried to shave with an added straight razor. I cut myself and it blooded very much. I really hurt myself. Never again. It's more a weapon than a drugstore item. Thanks to Mr. Gilette that he invented the double edge safety razor.
I had a similar experience, put me off straight razor shaving for a long time. Just got a barbers shave, and so I am looking at straight razor shaving again.
What’s helping me is taking it slow, only doing a small section at a time with the razor, and not pushing my skill set too far, too soon. I’m up to doing one full pass, and making corrections with my DE on the second pass.
I just bought and used the Wilkinson Sword metal safety razor thanks to your video. My skin isn't that bad but I had a few bumps from shaving which I did not like and of course Razor burn. Already I see improvements, fewer nicks and cuts which I received from Razors and atonshing improvement with regards to bumps and Razor burn.
Bob Ross of shaving indeed, Bob enlightened people on how to paint well with little practise and how to generally paint more skillfully. You have done exactly the same for shaving with me, thank you!
However, this video does not add your long list of achievements, 'Worst Cut I've Ever Given Myself While Shaving'.) OH HOW THE MIGHTY has FALLEN!
That’s great! Glad you’ve found a simple, yet superior way to shave. I shall rise again!!
You've shown why back in the day the mustache and goatee was popular! The most dangerous places to drive a straight! LOL!
I’m growing a temporary goatee now until
my chin heals!
This is why I’m not brave enough to try a straight yet! Lol thanks for the video, always a pleasure. Have a good week!
Straights are a little safer than Shavettes!
Fair play to you for filming this, carrying on and putting this video out! In fact fair play to you for using a cut throat on your self at all! Just a heads up.. (I am a fully qualified barber and use a cut throat most days for full head and face shaves in my shop)... We only ever use the end of the blade.. Ie approx 1 - 1.5 cm in contact with the face when shaving clients. The times I've seen you tubers.. Yourself included here.. Cut themselves is using the whole blade like you just did.
Not knocking you man just don't want to see a horrific injury or worse.
Hey Simon! Yeah, I sometimes just like to try things like these out for the fun of it, knowing that I’m a rank amateur. It was actually a pretty nice shavette but I was just careless. Thanks for watching!
Whew I got nervous reading the title.. Not gonna lie it was interesting to watch 😂 would like to try those disposables, I typically pull out my metal straight edge for line ups when I grow out the beard
Yeah, I’ve got a nice little red mark on my chin today.
Late night internet searches LOL we all had them. I felt soo much tension watching this:) but the feather blade release it :) Nice video , i dont want those lords even for free :)
Ahh, the safety of the safety razor.
Just did this on the top of my lip tonight with the Parker 99r. Was going too fast and sliced my top lip… I’ve never done that before until now! Had to use the stiptic pencil and alum.
Thanks for the shout out Sinatra last Friday take care. Also you should do disposable razors video take a break from safety razors. Ok. Buddy god bless you
You’re welcome!
Glad ur ok my “Shaving Buddy!” 💯😎
I’m fine!
I wish that this would have been my worst cut. I started wet shaving at 16 with a no name 3 Blade cartridge razor on which I did ~10 shaves. But from the start I've always wanted to start using a de razor. I soon decided on a Wilkinson sword classic. So I picked one up together with some palmolive shaving cream and a cheap boar brush. So I started my first shave and evrything went well until I wanted to just end the shave. And there i very not carefull enough and manged to give myself a clean 2cm cut. Got a bit scared after that, but continued using de's ever since. Never looked back ;)
I put a halved Feather blade in my shavette the other day. Went better than I expected.
I love your reaction to when you first cut your chin ahahah. oooop. Great videos again
Gentlemen... when making lather here is a tip... try putting in about 5 or so drops of olive oil or one of the types of your liking... thickens up that lather with a super creamy smooth shave.
Great shave! Your videos are much appreciated 👍😊.
Huh thats interesting, will try it next shave!
You may very well be the Bob Ross of shaving, but you are definitely the Mr. Rogers of shaving...
Now that is high praise, which I surely don’t deserve. But thank you. Mr Rogers was a beautiful person. We need more like him.
Warrior💪. Keeps going after a big cut 💯😎
Do you voice overs for podcasts? Hitman? My wife has heard your voice when I watch your videos and she swears it is you.
Yes, I do voiceovers for a living! I don’t think I’ve done one called Hitman, but I have done a lot of video games. Hmmm.
Wow a videogame voiceover?
What game?
I have that bay rum and the matching aftershave and both are really good..I’ll pass on the shavette lol good job
Good idea. Pass!
Me: "Wow, that was a nasty cut."
Also me: "Cool, I'm gonna try these."
Me too. I’m gonna order me one on amazon. He sold me even if he cut himself.
Be prepared for the cuts they're definitely going to come, but for me the learning curve is definitely worth it I love the way shaving with the shavette feels appart from the close shave it gives, one tip don't put as thick a lather as you would with a safety razor for a good close shave
I stopped at 9:53 just to say this: that Fine American Blend (a wonderful aftershave) is gonna light your chin up!
Okay, back to the video!
I made sure not to douse that cut after all!
You can actually put the "bloom water" on your face for a nice slick layer under the lather. Also the fine American blend soap is amazing!
Best thing to do is ignore it stop's bleeding much quicker.
At the beginning of this year, I inflicted an almost identical cut on myself. With a shavette, too, but on my leg. It was still visible months later. I eventually gave my shavette away. To me, it's either straight razor or safety razor, not some hybrid that combines the disadvantages of both: You have to buy replacement blades AND you are likely to cut yourself. More likely than with a true straight, actually, because the shavette has a very sharp stainless blade clamped in it and it is as inflexible as can be. Safety razors bend the blade and straight razors are built in a way that the edge can vibrate if it's probably honed. You cannot see the vibration, but you can sometimes here a singing noise. You are right, safety razor blades are sharper. The degree of sharpness of a machine-made blade cannot be achieved by honing by hand, even if you are skilled at it. They are also made from carbon instead of stainless steel (the higher-grade ones, at least) which has different properties. But how can a shavette possibly get clogged? Whatever it cut lands on the devilish implement itself, you don't even have to rinse it, you can wipe it. The review must have been for a different product.
Yeah, you’re right about all of it! I may have done my last Shavette shave. I hope that my cut doesn’t last as long as yours!
Sinatra Lennon's spooky shave 😂
Late night TV show?!
FINE American Blend was one of my favorite aftershave scents. I had the balm and soap puck. But I quit buying it cause they kept raising the price, and I couldn't justify buying it anymore. Don't get me wrong it's great stuff , just to pricey now. Great vid man 💈
Yeah, $20 a pop.
“Gotta be careful “
Instant cut never jinx it
Also love your videos
That's my biggest fear with a straight or shavette! I do hear Lord blades are meant to be good so I'll have to try them in the comfort of my Slim adjustable! Hope you heal up well! 😄
A band aid should fix it!
Shaved today with a Lord Super Stainless Classic (green wrapper) using Arko, a Maggard synthetic brush and a 1966 Gillette Slim set to 4, 3, and 2 (wtg, xtg, atg, respectively) and got a fantastic shave!
@@josh5397 I'm hoping to try out the Lord Range of blades at some point 😄
I lived in the Middle East for several years and that’s the EXACT razor they’d use. And they never used a lather, it was always a clear jell, similar to aloe, that left my skin so smooth….
I use a tiny piece of newspaper with aftershave to stop the bleeding if I cut during shaving. It's a very old technique used in SL, my grandfather used to do it.
News paper or toilet role the go to cut stopper for generations of men
Man, I just had my shave with a shavette and does it bite?! Damn, that thing has a deep learning curve. I got a cut and never felt nervous with every single stroke, nothing like using my Parker DE.
These exist because of health regulations on barber shops having the entire thing be disposable
thus the healthy label
I don’t know why but this guy it so entertaining to watch lol 😂
I don't know why either!
SinatraLennon holy god you responded this is a first for me
@SinatraLennon
It was such a nice comment that it deserved a response! Have a good week and stay safe out there.

These are not the only disposable straight razors on the market. Here in Japan, you can buy disposable straight razors in most ordinary drug stores. They are made by the Japanese company Kai, LGα-10B1 (that's LGalpha-10B1). I usually buy them for use as scalpels or very sharp knives.
I think my worst (and dumbest) cut was from bringing a safety razor to my upper lip way too quickly and catching the blade on my nostril instead. That bled like crazy, and I felt like a moron, but at least it wasn't in the way of future shaves.
Hapenned to me same thing. Most bleeding while shaving ever
My dad never taught me how to shave, I just found an old Shavette that probably belonged to him, cleaned it since it was stuffed for years and then went to work. No youtube videos, no nothing, I'm still surprised I still have a face hahaha.
It was a lot of trial and error, but so far so good.
Clever shaving container repurpose (hey, spell checker passed that!). When I saw those things in the pack, I thought, "oh no, this is not going to go well". It's only 5:40, so I will try to watch the rest now.....
Stay with it. I survive! (Spoiler alert)
a shavette isnt actually sharper than a safety razor. However a Safety razor is a little more ....Safe! Great videos! Joy to learn new things.
I use the same blades in both Wilkinsonsword classic the perfect blade in my view at least.
Some helpful tips. Don't dump out the bloom water, instead use it as a pre shave. Put the puck into an old coffee mug, that Conk puck is small enough to fit into any mug in the house.
Great advice!
I shaved with my slim today for the first time on number 3. Good razor!
Great!
@@SinatraLennon I also use Nivea shaving stick for the first time. Good stuff also!
I was going to ask if the corners on that blade were rounded off like a proper straight razor or sharp like a DE blade, but then I got my answer. It's always the corners that you have to watch out for the most. I'm still open to trying an Artist Club or a Weck that use longer blades that are meant for that purpose, but I'll never use a shavette that uses a DE blade ever again.
9:26 We do want to watch that
How do you know you have a close shave....when there's blood!! Time to get out the styptic pencil. I have a question.....was scotch involved in deciding to use a disposable straight razor????
I recently received my Sinatra/Lennon brush and used it. It's a great brush for the price. Comfortable in my hand, a nice amount of backbone, soft tips. It bowl lathered very well. Next I'll try a face lather with it.
Have a great and safe week.

Alright fellow straight razor enthusiasts. I’ve been using one for about two months can anyone explain why the left side of my face hurts more than the right? Not the razor burn, but the actual act of shaving. Thank you in advance
I would imagine that your face isn't as symmetrical as you think. I noticed this myself, when I smile there is slightly more curvature to my left cheek than my right. It could just be the contours of your face. Whatever easy shaving you get on one side might not be coming across well on the other. But that's just a guess.
But jw ? Other than the cut was it a good shave /sharp ?
Hi ,,,About 10 years ago, the regulations of barbershops here (Saudi Arabia) forced barbers to use single-use razors. There are several brands (including local ones). I don't try it ,, For me i shave at home with my own tools.
It's easier to bleed than to watch someone else bleed... Ey, ended up buying the Wilkinson Sword butterfly that you reviewed - it works great! Nice bang for the buck - you can't go wrong with it.
Very easy to bleed.
If that happened to me I would have just let it bleed till I was done, get coldest tap water possible, splash on some aqua velva and some aftershave balm. Happy unbloody shaves!
But you don’t have any strangers watching you!
Yeah I don't. Fortunately....
