      I guess most outlets were scrambling to cover the main talking points, and the easy talking points, first. But coverage of the DualSense came not long after. So if you google for DualSense hands on, you'll see lots of reactions to the controller were hitting a couple days back - some going so far as to call the new controller a "game changer"! Wasn't expecting so much from these features, but it is cool to hear everyone pretty unanimously like them.

    • @instantstupor
      @instantstupor Před 3 lety +22

      Well, the DualSense is being extensively covered right now by just about everyone; I think what you say is true of most Dave's videos though. That being said, it's being covered now because the embargo finally lifted. I guess more people were blitzing to get the main info out of the way, but the DualSense info followed pretty shortly after. Google for DualSense hands on, and you'll see a lot of similar sentiments to Dave's - everyone is pretty impressed! I was surprised he didn't bring up that there are tools available to essentially automate the haptics (derived from sound), so many games may at least support DualSense at the base level that way. I do agree that the highest fidelity versions of haptics (and any inclusion of adaptive triggers), like what's in Astro, will probably be mostly 1st party & might only get wide inclusion if there is a clear market demand for games that include it over those that don't.

    I only recently got the PS5 and I have to say the DualSense is probably my favorite thing so far. Wreckfest, for me, has to be one of the most amazing implementations of it so far. You can feel the rotational friction on acceleration instead of it being annoying vibration. You can also feel the car shifting gears, the clunking when something gets slightly damaged. When you sustain heavy damage, you get resistance through the “gas pedal” as if the the damage was effecting engine/drive shaft/suspension. You can feel the point where normal braking and locking up the brakes occurs and if you’re braking when leaving the tarmac for the dirt surface, you can feel the loss of friction.
    So for me, the DualSense elevated the game to a whole new level.

    The "Corkscrew" is the worm from a worm gear set. The worm can spin the gear but the gear cannot spin the worm. There is too much friction.
    Probably the two gears are not locked together, there is a spiral spring connecting them, like the spring of a mechanical clock, In this case, the worm gear is used to wind and unwind the spring making the trigger stiffer or softer.

      @MansMan42069 Před 3 lety +1

      @@DaroWannaKnow The trigger is not connected to any gears at all. The worm gear spins the main gear that has a plastic trigger stop attached to it. When the trigger meets the trigger stop, it meets resistance due to having to rotate a worm gear in reverse using the main gear.
      Basically, the teardown shows you absolutely can spin the wormgear using the main gear.

    • @BrunodeLima90
      @BrunodeLima90 Před 3 lety

      @@DaroWannaKnow Yes, I've seen the video now, as Sylas pointed the 45° allows the reverse operation and now I think the resistance is really created by passing a current through the motor.
      At, first, I thought it was odd to use a worm gear if they planned to use the motor torque as resistance, but then I saw the good gear ratio they achieved with only three pieces.
      In my previous idea, it was a set and forget system just to make the trigger heavier, but it would still need an extra feedback system to know how much weight was set. The actual mechanism is simpler and can replicate different weight/pull curves, like the break of a gun trigger or a constant weight of dragging something.
      There is still a detail missing in the drawing, the trigger isn't connected directly to the gear, there is a spring between it and the black piece, the spring prevents the trigger from moving by itself, but I also think it improves the adaptive effect by preventing the user from feeling the friction of the gears.

    very good review.. giving the facts rather than showing off attitudes. i am sick and tired of other reviews bullshitting about how tall the ps5 is or how slowly they can strip and unbox a ps5 package; this guy knows his stuff and says something useful

    I don't think I can ever go back to another controller. All the extra features aside, it's just really really comfortable. Going back to my Xbox One controller feels so awkward and clunky

    If you play CoD, the triggers actually vibrate back n forth to your fingers when firing automatic weapons. And a hard bounce feeling when firing sniper and shotgun. Its awe!😍

    sounds cool but don't forget the most important part of this feature "if the developers want to use it" , just think about the touch pad, the speaker of the ps4 controller. it was used but not very often or not always for a new feature. same with the screen of the wii u.
