    Your insurance is under pre-tax dollars, so maybe that's why you see your paycheck the same...? Also, a suggestion: When they allow you to do a flex account, you can have the money you're currently setting aside for your "medical fund" go towards your flex account. Those funds should also be pre-taxed, so it becomes a win-win situation for you! You won't have to set that $ aside anymore (so it can go towards your snowball instead). Any money that is pre-taxed is great because at the end of the year, you'll only be taxed on the after tax income.

    Check what your actual effective date is with your insurance. I recently had the same confusion with my company insurance and had to call them since no money was being deducted. They told me there was 90 days from when I signed up to when the plan was effective so I wouldn't see anything coming out of my paycheck until then. Maybe your company has a similar policy?

    • @alyssamakesamigurumi
      @alyssamakesamigurumi  Před 5 lety +1

      I started my channel because I had made some cash envelopes and my friends wanted to see how I made them. So I made the tutorial explaining it, and I started to see that people made videos about stuffing their envelopes too, and I figured I'd give that a try so my friends could see how I do that as well. I never in a million years thought people would watch! For beginners I always say make sure your audio and video quality is good because people won't want to watch videos that have poor quality in either of those categories. And then after that just be sure to get on a regular uploading schedule. People are more likely to subscribe if they know that you upload content they're interested in on a regular basis.

    • @alyssamakesamigurumi
      @alyssamakesamigurumi  Před 5 lety +2

      Grin & Plan hi there! Well, they’re all very different categories. If I had my dog fund lumped in with toiletries and groceries, then an unexpected vet visit could make me unable to buy groceries or toiletries until the next paycheck! Having everything split up like that makes it so you’re able to afford everything, and stick to your budget in that certain category. Good question!

    • @heatherabner
      @heatherabner Před 5 lety

  • @ksabat9
    @ksabat9 Před 5 lety +1

    Hey Alyssa!
    Just wondering how you got started doing your 1/2 payment method. Did you start with just one category or did you do all of them at once? And how did you actually start cutting them in half if you budget everything out already and don't have extra left to start a half payment category? (I hope that made sense)

    • @alyssamakesamigurumi
      @alyssamakesamigurumi  Před 5 lety +2

      I started out doing things so strangely. When I worked retail I was paid every 2 weeks but I split up my paychecks into 2 and left half sitting in my account and budgeted for the week with the other half. So I used to split up my one bill at the time (car payment) into 4. I just always heard my friends saying "ugh my car payment is due this week so there goes my paycheck" and I never wanted to do that. I like to split it up evenly among the paychecks so I don't have a bunch left over from one paycheck and can barely make ends meet on the next, you know? It just seems to eliminate so much confusion for me. It's a bit difficult to set up at first because you kind of have to get ahead on your bills, but it is so worth it!

    • @ksabat9
      @ksabat9 Před 5 lety

      @@alyssamakesamigurumi That's definitely how I feel. One paycheck has so much left and the other one I have nothing. So I want to try and start splitting them up like you do! It's hard though because I do work retail so I never have the same amount to be able to plan things out.

    • @alyssamakesamigurumi
      @alyssamakesamigurumi  Před 5 lety +1

      @@ksabat9 I totally get that. I started when I worked retail too and my paycheck was always changing with however many hours I got. The good thing is, your bills usually stay the same. So hopefully you have enough coming in to cover your bills, and only the amounts you're able to put toward somewhat less important things like spending money, toiletries, sinking funds, and things like that will have to change.

    Are you still able to eat at your parents house as well as the food you buy with your budgeted money? I’m trying to figure out a food budget for myself and $120 a month doesn’t seem like enough...

    • @saraashkir5793
      @saraashkir5793 Před 5 lety +1

      Yes I think she eats with her family when her mom cooks, but also makes food for herself a bunch. I will say this, your first couple of months on a food budget, especially if youre new to cooking, will be higher than expected because youre gonna have to buy new tools/spices/etc to cook so often. After a couple months, those things will only occasionally be bought so the budget can be lower

    • @alyssamakesamigurumi
      @alyssamakesamigurumi  Před 5 lety

      Yes, I am able to eat food at home that I have not purchased but my family eats completely different than I do. I eat dinner with my family maybe once per week, and dinner with TJ's family probably once as well. Luckily if my mom is going to the store I can ask her to pick up things like bread or almond milk, and she'll randomly surprise me with some food too but I definitely can't give her a list 😂 I shop at Aldi and I am consistently amazed with how much food I can get for $60. I feel like I robbed the place most of the time!
