- Jeff takes this episode of History Hunters to Roselawn Memorial Cemetery at 803 Larpenteur Avenue W, Roseville, Minnesota to pay tribute to the late comedian Mitch Hedberg who died in 2005 at the age of 37.
Born in St. Paul, Minn., Mitchell Lee Hedberg (1968-2005) was an American stand-up comedian known for his surreal humor and deadpan delivery His comedy typically featured short, sometimes one-line jokes mixed with absurd elements and non sequiturs. He gained fame in various TV formats, MTV, Conan O'Brien and appearances on "That 70's Show."
On May 4, 2023 Jeff also visited the grave of pioneer photographer Frank Jay Haynes who photographed Yellowstone National Park and the Northern Pacific Railroad.

We Still Love Mitch Hedberg’s Comedy. Sad that he passed away. Thanks for sharing your video.
Mitch Hedberg was soooo funny... it's so sad he died so early. Thanks for bringing him to more people by doing this visit on your show
Loved his skit about the waiting list at a restaurant, Dufrain party of two, then they skip to the next names on the list...Hilarious!
Mitch Hedberg is still my all time favorite comedian! He was relatable to anyone. A talent not many possess. Thanks for sharing this video, Jeff.
Thanks for giving time to Mitch Hedberg - one of my all time fave stand-ups!
Hey my old friend, miss seeing your work! Thanks for weighing in for old Mitch! He had me laughing hard because of his play on words! Take care! Look forward to what you will be producing!
Mitch Hedberg: The Prince of One Liners.
Henny youngman was better
Drove to Grand Junction for son’s graduation. Slept couple hours and drove back to High Desert. Your videos helped me along the way sir! Much respect and thanks for keeping me awake while you were riding shotgun. 😂
Jeff would you fufill my suggestion by visiting the grave of john philip sousa please and you are the sweetest kindest most special guy on youtube ♥️♥️
Did he graduate from CMU?
Mitch Hedberg was hilarious.
Thanks for sharing. Mitch was so funny, so unique. Still no one like him today.
That’s for sure. And he was likable too!
Mitch Hedberg was my son's favorite comedian, we enjoyed his comedy also. So talented. Tragic about his death. Glad you enjoyed him also. Great photos from Frank Haynes.
Thnx for my weekly "fix" Jeff! So sad the effects of drug abuse take the lives of such folks but it's the choices we make that determine it all. Safe travels always and look forward to my "fixes"! ~Chris
Mitch Hedberg was a great comedian.
It’s sad to lose someone who can make us laugh.
Rest in peace Mitch Hedberg. I hope you know how much we miss you and that you’re still making us laugh. ✨
I’ll never forget a good friend of mine sharing a comedy special of Mitch Hedberg with me and my continuous laughter 😆 of his jokes. Mitch was a comedy 🎭 genius. Afterwards, my friend said, “So you like him?” , which of course I said definitely. He then said, “Well, unfortunately, I have some bad news, he’s dead now.” I just thought, what a bummer. So talented and likable personality as well as young. Thanks for another great episode, including the historic photographer.
Mitch was the best. Thanks for highlighting him. And welcome to the Midwest!
Shout out to my Minnesota peeps❤
I was, and still am, such a big fan of Mitch. When he passed, it deeply affected me for some reason. I always thought he kind of reminded me of my dad when he was young, but beyond that I found him to be one of the funniest comedians that I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. He was taken far far too soon. Sadly, it seems like those who have the most talent and ability to make us laugh, have the deepest and darkest demons that trouble them during their lives. Anyhow, I really appreciate you taking time to share his gravesite with us, Jeff. I don't think I would ever be able to make it there to pay my respects and show my appreciation to him for the countless times that he helped me find brightness and laughter in some of my toughest and darkest days, so you visiting and showing it to us allows me to be there vicariously through you. Anyway, love the video as always. Safe travels, Jeff and Sarah!
Thanks Jeff,
Mitch Hedberg was one of the all time best comedians!
I didn’t know that Mitch was in the “home movies” adult cartoon. That’s one of the funniest cartoons for me. Lots of good voice artists involved with that cartoon. Thanks Jeff for doing the great work. 🙏🏻
I always learn from your channel, Jeff and look forward to more each Sunday.
Drugs have taken the lives of so many young talents. It is a shame. Thanks for bringing both of these artists back to life for a little bit of Sunday morning.
Mitch was a very funny guy! Gone to soon. Thanks Jeff
I very much enjoy the visits you make and the stories you tell behind them. Much appreciated Jeff.
I appreciate the nice comments, Emily! Glad that you enjoyed it!
Hello Jeff, hope your having a great Sunday. Thanks for another awesome video
Thanks, you too!
It’s sad…graveyards are full of talent gone too soon…thanks for those pics of the past….Jeff your videos are such a go to for education, entertainment, and enjoyment. Thanks for all the work you put into it. 👍
I appreciate the nice compliments! Thank you! Keep watching, will you?
@@jbenziggy absolutely….with anticipation !!
Funny & Unique talent. You're Missed Mitch
So Tragic, he's so funny 😢😅RIP Mitch x
Never heard of Mitch Hedberg until today, thanks Jeff for sharing his story and letting me learn something today!
My pleasure! Thanks, Randy!
Mitchell was so funny he was awesome I didn’t know he passed. You just brought back memories Jeff laugheing memories thx Jeff 😂
Jeff, I am so excited about your Minnesota series! Since I'm from Minnesota we are so often overlooked as far as our historical value. We are rich in history! Thank you to you and Sarah and have a great day!!!
Mitch was so funny - so tragic how he left us. Didn't need to happen.
Thanks again for sharing, Jeff and Sarah
Thankyou jeff, RIP Mitch, I never heard of him but thankyou for the wonderful walk through. Have a great day.
I didn’t discover Mitch Hedberg until after his death. I was so distraught. I have great admiration for comedians who entertain us without vulgar language i.e. Sinbad, Brian Regan, Henry Cho. Thank you Jeff for this episode.
You are like me in that vulgarity turned me off. And I too discovered Mitch after he died. But to be honest he did use colorful language in some of his stage acts.
This was a good video Jeff ,,, and again my condolences to you and Sarah. I'm back home now . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA......
I hadn’t heard of Mitch Hedberg but watching the clips in your video makes me want to check him out more on CZcams. Such a shame. Thanks for always introducing me to new people and places!
I had never heard of either one of them. It looks like they were both standouts in their fields. Thanks, for the "eulogies", Jeff.
🏡🙏🏻🧡
Hello Sweetheart! 😅❤ Sad story… Beautiful photo’s. And again a quick reaction from you 😘
I have to commend you Jeff for sharing the story of Mitch Hedberg. So others that weren't aware of him can now enjoy his whims cycle intellectual insight of the comedic world. We're still laughing Mitch 🪦
Hello Jeff, Happy Sunday. Thanks for sharing this story on Mitch Hedberg. may he rest🙏peace. and thanks for sharing your trip to Minnesota and the history. Have a wonderful day.
I never regret watching an episode of History Hunters.. Thank you Jeff, best wishes and ............................. Cheers
Glad to hear it! Thank you VERY much!
I remember Mitch. I didn't know he had passed either. I really enjoyed learning about Hayes. I like seeing the old historical photographs. Thanks for bringing us along.
Jeff , it's funny I just left the little bighorn battle field yesterday with my cousin.... We also hit Yellowstone . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA......
Loved that guy.
I did indeed know of Mitch Hedberg, absolutely fell in love with him around 2008. I was crushed to hear that he had died of a drug overdose. He was one funny unique guy. Mr Haynes I did not know of but I enjoyed learning. Thank you so much!
Great history
Mitch's story was very sad but looked him up and loved his style of comedy .Frank had a very different life and would of liked more on him Loved the video Jeff and Thankyou for bringing them to us
Thank you for sharing another great story Jeff. Always great to learn something new 😊 2:26
This brings back some memories of Mitch after watching him on tv for the first time. He had a different view of life and managed to turn it into comedy and make us laugh. I used to crack up when listening to him because he was kind of out there. Thanks for making this video.
He was kind of out there, but my sense of humor is kind of right where he was at. Lol.
Thanks for the video. I was in Minnesota one year in July and I was freezing. Now I’m from Ga, but still. It’s crazy how cold it was.
The loss of Mitch Hedberg was great. He was one of the 'cerebral' comedians like Steven Wright. He never had to resort to off-color jokes. You could tell that much thought went into his humor, which he delivered with a casual ease stemming from real confidence. It both angers and saddens me when people resort to drugs. As you mentioned- We lost a great talent. Thanks for the video.
Great vlog. Loved Mitch Hedberg, Didnt know about the photographer. Thanks
Our pleasure!
I have not heard of this comedian. I will have to check him out on u-tube. Beautiful cemetery . Great info. Thanx.
I understand if he isn’t your brand of humor, but he tickles my funny bone when I listen to him.
Another great history lesson, Jeff. I actually didn't remember either of the names of your subjects in this episode, but I did remember their work. Thank you both for another great episode.
Unique sense of humor ❤
Thank you again.
Just great! Learn something every time.
😂BEST TO THE TWO OF YOU. MAY YOU BE BLESSED.😊
I didn’t discover Mitch until many years after he passed. Seriously funny dude. 1968, same vintage as me.
Had never heard of either of these men. Sad that Mitch Hedberg died at such a young age due to drugs. Frank Jay Haynes sounds like an interesting man who had quite a career. Thanks for teaching me something new today.
Glad it was educating!
I never heard of him but he was very funny. I really enjoyed the picture of Yellowstone and the great Indians . Thank you so much for your hard work. Take care from Michigan 😊
Never heard of Mitch Hedberg, though his last name sounds swedish related. Very interesting about the photographer. Felt sorry for the horses...😢 Great video. Thank you! ❤️🙏❤️
I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life and learned something new about two men that are buried here. Thank you! Great video.
I personally love it there in Minnesota!
I’ve just watched his donut joke and wanted to research. Had no idea he died! Super sad 😢 Thanks Jeff to mention him. Super fun at guy ❤
I had not heard of either of these gentlemen, Mitch sounded like a very funny man and Frank recorded historic pictures that we treasure these days many years later. Thanks Jeff & Sarah for sharing your trip back east. I'd like to see Sarah more in your videos, she adds a funny side sometimes... Cya in a week!
Glad you enjoyed it, Jerry! Hope you're doing well!
Beautiful Photos and I guess Rocks get old to. I have never heard of that comedian until now.
Not everyone has heard of him. I discovered him later in life.
Thanks for sharing…
I've never heard of Mitch Hedberg, l must confess, but it's certainly sad to hear of another tragic ending attributed to chronic drug abuse. The Haynes tribute is a fascinating one, however. A pioneer is a fitting title for this extraordinary man and his remarkable photography. Another triumph, Jeff.
Thanks.
I saw him at Cobb's comedy club in San Francisco over 30 years ago with my wife..so fn funny 🤣
Thanks Jeff! Hugs and prayers to the family !
Thanks for the video with Yellowstone.
Long or short, your stories always are interesting.
Thank you!
Interesting. Sad the photos were so difficult to take and probably placed in a box and forgotten. Crazy Lamp Lady recently bought a box of photos to resell. Treasures to a few. Thanks
Awesome video, something I never knew, Thanks for sharing Jeff always a good one
Thanks for watching!
If I ever heard of Mitch Hedberg, I don't recall it. Always sad when a promising talent dies so young from drugs. Such a waste. Very good photos from the old west, also. You never fail to deliver an interesting video of the past. Thanks, Jeff!
Yet another great video and history lesson, well done Jeff, made my Monday morning.
Awesome, thank you! I sanest forget you see it on Monday!
Always sad to see a young man pass before he had to. 😢 The photographer had a great career and got lots of firsts. Thank you Jeff for sharing.
💯👊👍
Mitch was/is one of my faves. I love his dry, witty humor.
""But what happened to the Dufranes?Who can eat at a time like this?"
That one is hilarious! 😂
As is pretty much all of Mitch Hedberg's work.
I too found and laughed with Hedberg on CZcams. I didn’t know he was dead. I laughed at your clips of him but I got an even got a bigger laugh when you accidentally chipped a piece of the rock monument. Good on ya for not cutting that out.
Thank you Jeff for another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
@@jbenziggy You're welcome Jeff
Really enjoyed this lesson. Take care
Jeff Another interesting episode, I had not heard of Mitch Hedberg but sad he passed so young. Frank Haynes had a interesting life and really got to see our country. I really liked the fact he had a "rail car studio" and traveled around and took photos of family members at a time when most didn't own a camera. Always interesting content. Thanks Jeff & Sarah
Thanks for the video, Jeff! We always learn something new from you! Always look forward to your videos!
You bet! Thanks!!!
Great video! Never heard of either one of these people but loved the way you blended them (old past and more recent past). They both gave us so much in totally different ways. Thank you and always look forward to your videos.
I'm not into comedy but I did enjoy the part of the man who was a photographer.
Yeah, I didn't know there was a famous comedian buried in Roseville. I got a laugh after listening to the recordings.
Minneapolis is my born town. It's a big city. The freeways there, it's like a big bowl of spaghetti. You don't know where you are if you are lost.
Nice episode 👍
I think every big city has a crazy network of freeways, LA being tops! Boston is crazy too! so is Minneapolis!
@@jbenziggy Agreed 👍
very good. !!!
Thank you! Cheers!
My girlfriend and I were just talking about Mitch Hedberg recently. I couldn’t remember his name and wondered what ever happened to this funny guy. Thanks to your video, I can go and find some of his old performances on CZcams. Awesome stuff Jeff! Keep up the great work! Aloha 🤙🏼
That's awesome! Thanks! Much was a peculiar dude for sure. Funny guy!
He was very funny. He certainly had a unique delivery.
Mitch Hedberg isn't someone I was expecting you to cover but I'm glad you did, I've been a fan of his for ages! The number of times I've referenced the "escalator temporarily stairs, sorry for the convenience" joke over the years 😄
I try to cover a variety of topics! Thanks for watching!
Can’t say I heard of the young man but what I saw did make me laugh. Hope that you and Sarah are doing ok. Again my condolences on the loss of Sarah’s grandmother
I've never heard of either of these 2. Comedian was funny and the photographer, cool.
I may have seen one of his comedy sketches years ago. Sorry he had to die that way, so young. Thank you for letting us know about people and their lives.
You know when you haven't seen someone but you didn't know they were gone? So sad, may he RIP. 🙏🏻❤
Looking forward to seeing what else you find in MN. Thank you!
Yes, thank you! More coming!
Imagine bringing that stone from yellowstone to minnesota! By train or wagon? Amazing!
I remember that episode of That 70's Show!!! Mitch Hedberg was hilarious, but sadly I had no clue who he was. I saw him guest star on several shows, I never knew he did stand up. It's so sad how his life ended, and sounds like he really wanted out. I LOVE how he was able to joke about it, comparing it to other diseases. My husband is a sober alcoholic, so he really got a laugh out of that one. Very interesting info on both of these people. Oh and btw.... this year it has been seasonly cold compared to normal. It's finally warming up here in Nebraska. I know Minnesota is a little cooler, but it's been cool all over.
MITCH WAS SO DAM FUNNY
Yeah I knew about Hedberg, saw him first on the Letterman show, which was a big break for him. Never heard of Haynes, but he seamed to have a fun life, traveling and photographing. Minnesota? Well that's where many Viking descendants live, and I should know being a viking myself. Så si hei til alle vikinger du ser Jeff.
Thanks Jeff.
Great video!! Nice work Jeff !!! Was a fan of Mitch so sad..
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
This guy I was watching a performance not even a month ago. I remember his funny stuff and his cool odd way of looking at reality😆😂🤣. I still did not remember his name tho, til you showed his picture. He was so entertaining.
R I P, Mitch, now with God's love with your momma🕯
Is ok to clean off a gravemarker of someone you don't personally know? jw. I think that's ok to do. But he took amazing photographs and really pioneered with the mobile studio on tracks, like a pop up photo op!
Thanks Jeff, doing History Hunters vlog'n in Minnesota🍩
I think helping the appearance of a marker is admirable regardless if you know them! Thanks for watching!
I used to listen to Mitch Hedberg on Laugh USA XM Radio.
I have never heard of Mitchell sounded like a very funny guy. And photography is great I wonder if any of his pictures have been colorized great video jeff.
