God sent His only son Jesus to die for our sins on the cross. This was the ultimate expression of God's love for us. Then God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day. Jesus loves you ❤️ but the end times written about in the Holy Bible are already happening in the world. Please REPENT now and turn to Jesus and receive Salvation before it is too late. Time is almost up.
As I sit here procrastinating the writing of my thesis, this is painfully relatable content 😂 I remember watching them all as they came out thinking 'that looks fun, maybe I could do a PhD' - thanks for nothing 😉
I sit here, a couple of months before starting my PhD, this is not relatable but enjoyable content. I remember watching them when they came out and inspiring me to do a maths degree (I actually ended up doing a lot of fluid dynamics, again thanks Simon). I didn't imagine I would actually go for a PhD but thanks Simon for inspiring me 😉😉 😂
These vlogs are why I'm PhD student. I stumbled onto them years ago and realized that normal people could do research. I didn't have to be an ultra-confident super student to be a successful researcher. I could have doubts. I could be anxious. I could have hobbies. Now, I'm working at a top-ranked research university doing data collection for my doctoral study. Thank you, Simon. You literally changed my life with these little videos.
Hey Simon! I used to binge these often. I remember sitting in my dorm as an undergrad seriously struggling with depression and remembering them--they really helped me get through the first mid-COVID academic year. I will be starting a 7 year combined MA/PhD program in Massachusetts this fall. It's in English, not science, but you were still a massive inspiration for me and I don't know if I'd be doing it without you. Thank you!
Dear Simon, I am an atmospheric scientist today largely--crucially--because of you and your vlogs. At a pivotal time when I was deciding what to do with my life after undergrad, knowing that I was fascinated by the atmosphere but not knowing any atmospheric scientists who could provide a reference point, I came upon your channel and your PhD vlogs. I was quickly inspired by your passion, your grit, and the clarity and candor with which you communicated about science, about life, and about learning to be a scientist. Much of the fuel that propelled me to go from South America to pursue a PhD at MIT came from you. I am now a researcher at a national lab in the US, hoping to help solve issues that affect many. You might not read this, but my gratitude is unconditional, and any impact that my work has on the lives of others, however small, has roots in your videos. Still a big fan. Love your content.
hey, weird story but when i was in middle-school your channel (this series specifically) introduced me to what a scientist/physicist actually was and did and is and it was really inspiring for me. anyways now I'm in my second year of engineering physics at university! I'm the first in my family to graduate highschool much less attend uni. this work is now my life's passion, I'm very happy and I might not have found my way to it if it wasn't for you so I just wanted to say I'm really grateful...thank you !
As a fellow British CZcamsr & Physics PhD, may I congratulate you on your remarkable achievement. I am staggered that you continued to find the time to document your final year and provide all this relatable content for us to enjoy. I am delighted to see your filmmaking thrive 👏
Simon, your videos got me through university... I was doing a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering (that I now teach, more on that later). And I had no idea at the time you had ADHD.... and at the same time I had no idea I MYSELF had ADHD either. Without your videos, literally this 11 hour snippet of your life... I would of likely failed. You were on when i was doing assignments, doing hard revision, and even when i was making rewrites of content that people were struggling to understand the original lecture slides / notes. To find out after the fact, years later, that you went through the same stuff I did? I wanted to go out of my way to say that mate, you made a real big difference in my life. University was hell, and you were a big factor in dragging me through even the worst of it... That said, when I started teaching, i made a promise to myself... "Never again..." Never again would a student have to feel the way I did during my university days, not if I had a way to help! Your drive helped me appreciate how important that support is, how important self-care is, and how there isnt anything better than the joy of seeing others succeed. So erm... yeah... thank you 🫂
I am starting my PhD in Translational Pharmacology in one month, 7 years after finishing undergrad. I wathced all your PhD vlogs, in real time, with the dream that I will soon be doing my own PhD. Here's to the next several years of struggle, dispair, and the realization of a long time dream. Thanks for all the inspiration, Simon!
These videos got me through my PhD. Although my field was completely different (health), your ability to maintain an inquisitive mindset and talk through the challenges you faced helped me critically reflect on how to approach my own seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Many thanks to you, Simon. All the best from Australia.
Incredible project! the fact that you've managed to compile all this together to show your journey is incredibly inspiring. Congrats on graduating and props to you for putting in the work :D
I started watching these vloges before doing my PhD. Now I'm in my last year and it's very painful LoL! These vlogs could't come in a better time! I really would love to re-watch them again in future when I hopfully graduate. I feel these video became a part of my PhD rituals :P
Hello! I was one of those people who binge-watched this recently (about a month or so ago at this point). I would leave it playing on the side while washing the dishes, and I loved it! 😂 I was a struggling so-so physics major during my undergrad, so I found the moment when you overcame your major coding problem and submitted your thesis to quite be cathartic and moving. I also got the same feeling from your previous video on conquering your academic demons and your video where you were coding a way to teach pixels how to race a track. Thank you!
Oh wow, this hits hard ! Simon, you were the one who pushed me into physics ! Remember watching these back in 2017 as I started my degree. Now working on my thesis at LHC.Thank you for pushing me over the edge into an adventure, I never imagined happening.
It's so comforting to see a fellow PhD sharing the trials and tribulations of research. I had exactly the same process of "trying everything" when the code wouldn't run. Can fully relate to the pain of not knowing if we're comparing our work with the right answers! Love this video.
It really is oddly pleasant to see clips of you wandering around bits of campus that are so deeply rooted in my brain from my time at Exeter. I did my Nat Sci Masters in Modelling Exoplanetary Atmospheres from 2015 to 2019, and retrospectively i'm almost surprised I never ran into you because it feels like i lived my entire life for those 4 years between Harrison, Laver and the Physics Building. Feels strange to look back on that time that now feels SO distant and strange, but was the most impactful and important stage of my life up to that point.
So much nostalgia, used to watch your vlogs for inspiration in middle school and now I'm going to college and this seems like forever ago and there's so many bittersweet memories associated with your vlogs. ❤
oh my god i first discovered your channel and watched your phd vlogs during the pandemic and the videos really mean a lot to me both as entertainment and inspiration. i was planning to rewatch them at some point so thank you
I'm about to start my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering next month. I've been following you for years, although I sadly didn't get to watch the PhD vlogs as they came out. Thanks for inspiring a generation of scientists and showing the ups and downs of life in academia. Here's to many more years of you helping us get through our own PhDs with great videos!
I remember watching these vlogs when I was in the early years of undergrad, now I am a 4th year PhD student & I am close to entering the dissertation phase of my degree (it’s surreal). Thanks for giving a realistic view of Gradschool, Simon :)!
It's been a while. Subscribed to your channel because of your first PhD vlog. In the meantime I finished my bachelors, finished my masters, worked 2 jobs, finished another bachelor, currently doing my second masters. All in all, not a lot actually changed for my daily life in all these years, especially the fact that I still sometimes ponder whether or not I'd like to do a PhD after my studies. Guess it's time to rewatch and get inspired (again) :)
I've been watching those vlogs since second year in college, now I've graduated with a BSc and MSc and hope to do a PhD eventually and feel all these experiences and emotions first hand
Even though I decided not to pursue a MSc (my bachelor thesis was just, well, not fun), I enjoyed these vlogs massively when I was busy finishing off my adventure at applied uni (HBO for the Dutchies). Thanks for this supercut, thanks for sharing your adventure, Simon!
wow amazing to see all these together. takes me back... both to this era of your channel *and* the mountainous stress of my own atmospheric physics PhD! nice to be taken back to the former, not sure sure about the latter!
I began watching those as I decided I wanted to become a physicist. No too long after I finish my undergrad studies this comes out... things come full circle. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
I was watching these when I was doing my masters thesis in Physics, considering a PhD. Even then, I related to some aspects. Now, I am doing a PhD. Thank you for sharing this, it was really helpful!
I have been binge-watching these throughout my PhD and now that I'm on the last few months this has become my motivational background noise for editing my thesis
How silly is this that I started watching these when I was in High School and now I'm a third year PhD student in Physics. Bonkers how time just does that.
I'll be starting my PhD next year hopefully. Simon is the person who made me want to go down this academic path. At least he's constantly reminding me what I'm about to get myself into. aaaahhhhh!!!! Things we do for passion!
Three separate times, your series inspired me to do a PhD in molecular biology, all 3 times I got sidetracked haha! Now this series is to me like watching the Harry Potter series in the winter, it just comes back around and I can't help but cherish it. Much love!
I must tell you... I've following you since you were in the final year of your phd... and these videos hold a sense of nostalgia for me... seeing you made me wanna do a phd in the first place and as I am a physics graduate I really relate with your videos... I am eagerly looking forward for all your videos keep making them🤌✨️
I took a break after bashing my brain against the screen learning about something for hours and saw this video, the good thing is I'm refreshed and ready to go back into it, the bad thing is that I forgot this was a break and have been just enjoying the video for 2 hours
My thoughts……..’oh no!! Simon ACTUALLY compiled all his PhD vlogs into one BIG vlog 😮’ sighs ‘it’s a bloody rerun!!!!’ But watched it all!!! ….. again!!! … like the first time but more crammed in!!!’ 😂 Honestly Simon!!! It was worth it. Hats off to you again for the PhD, the laughter (with you that is!! You are are funny guy!!), and for giving me the motivation for study back then!! Not a PhD but a MSc!! Thanks for sharing your journey, it was great to watch and I do continue to watch to today (including an interesting book of which I had no understanding of but did enjoy 😅) Thanks again and congratulations… 🎉 ….again!!!

I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE...I was like "Yeah, youtube be back on good recommendations game" Old_Is_Gold, thought it was one of them video recs from past....Just checked the length of the video 30 minutes already into it, Dammmnnnnn! I'm the happiest man alive...beautiful surprise, Your PhD vlogs ARE INSPIRATION my guy! They make the little science kid in me THRIVEEE!! You are the creator we never deserved...I literally read Sapiens on your recommendation and its my favorite book of all time. YOU ARE PERFECTION DR. SIMON. Thanks for Everything you do!

That's awesome! What is your research if I may ask? I am personally trying to get my foot in the door for research into pure mathematics.
This is my favourite era of the channel
I got awarded my PhD last month and watching these vlogs made my PhD journey over the last 4 years so much easier!
Congrats!!

Oh my goodness, so many memories, including of your incredible persistence in the face of the code refusing to work!!
I'm starting my PhD in a week. I feel like CZcams is giving me a warning by putting this in my recommended 😅
Good luck!
oh, i looove these! I come back to them whenever I need motivation to study. Thanks for the supercut, gonna watch these all over again😊

These vlogs were inspiration when I applied for my PhD programme, I've just recently passed - so very nostalgic to see these all!
This era will never be replicated again. Probably my favorite version of the Neistat style vlogs.
I've been watching those vlogs since second year in college, now I've graduated with a BSc and MSc and hope to do a PhD eventually and feel all these experiences and emotions first hand

Came across your channel in my undergrad, now I'm starting my PhD in CS and Math this fall. Time flies lol.
I'm getting my masters right now and while its not in physics these videos were a huge inspiration for going down that path. Thanks Simon!
This is the most valuable video I have seen in my life. Honestly
I love you Simon! (in a purely platonic, non-toxic manner) 😂
Hope you, pixel girl and pixel baby are happy and well! Much love xx
I took a break after bashing my brain against the screen learning about something for hours and saw this video, the good thing is I'm refreshed and ready to go back into it, the bad thing is that I forgot this was a break and have been just enjoying the video for 2 hours
I rewatched the playlist recently after hearing about the channels issues and now this is on my timeline. I guess I'm watching this now
Yup the void left behind by this series is still ever-present 😭 got me through so much of my BA
Congratulations on your PhD Simon! All that hard work was worth it 🎉
Ohh Simon, I really missed the vlogs you used to do during your PhD times... I want the vlogs backk!!!
My thoughts……..’oh no!! Simon ACTUALLY compiled all his PhD vlogs into one BIG vlog 😮’ sighs ‘it’s a bloody rerun!!!!’
But watched it all!!! …..
I was starting to get scared you quit Since it had been so long since your last upload
Good to see it
Even if it's not quite my cup of tea
You're one of my favorites
As a fellow physics PhD student who binged these before starting and has continued to do so for 'motivation' (/a reminder that we all suffer), having them all in one video is going to be a wild ride
this video has to be one of the seven wonders of youtube
I remember when you were depressed, sad times - great to see you do better now
I cannot WAIT to watch this for the next week as a 24 year old going back to college 🥹
I originally clicked on the video for a background noise, thinking it was 1 hour. 2 hour later, fInished my work, confused as to why the video is still playing, looked again at the videos, and now just realised this thing is 11 hours ???? 😝
Also, congrats for finishing your phd 🎉🎉. Stumbled on your channel years ago (~4?) when i was considering what to take for Uni (decided to take Physics, & grad thesis is on earth physics) and now i've almost graduate. Thanks for being such an inspiration, I dont think I'd ever take uni, let alone physics, if it weren't for science communicator like you. Looking at this video made me not want to take a PhD though, no offense 😅 😅
I'm writing up my Masters dissertation on climate policy in China right now! This is very relatable hehe :)
I'm also in my University's choir (and was for my Undergrad too), nice to learn you are a singer as well!
AHhhh glad to see you upheld the tradition of guys who don´t really grow impressive beards but getting one anyway while writing your thesis and then shaving it off again once you feel you have control over your life again! Me and my cousin (who did the exact same thing) thank you for holding fast to such honored tradition Simon 😉👌
Feels like an absolute lifetime ago
The start of my final year was VERY VERY hard, but the rest of it has been smoother than the previous years. I'm thankful because it has not been smooth sailing.
The mad man. Cannot wait to watch this while in work
Happy Bday Peter!

Wow this takes me back to the time before my own PhD. Started mine the day after you submitted yours 😊.
I vlogged my undergrad and now I'm starting the final year of my PhD. I remember watching this series back in the day and here I am now! Maybe I'll pick up the camera again and film this final year.
Because I plan to do PhD at some point, I am going to like this video. Will watch it over the course of several days.
fantastic. A video I can watch to procras- I mean, motivate me to study.
Hi Simon, definitely going to watch this when I have the time. Currently concluding my master's process engineering in the Netherlands and heavily debating whether or not to do a PhD versus joining the renewable energy industrial sector. Hoping your journey might give some guidance ❤❤
Spent one of my first holidays together with my girl friend in Exmouth in the early 80s. We also visited Exeter Cathedral and were very impressed by the nave and the centrally located organ.
Nostalgia kicks in!
Fantastic! What a lovely flashback. Also totally spaced that you were a choral scholar!
Oh and the beer mile! Dan's commentating during that makes me laugh 😆
Lol what a perfect thing to put on in the background as I scramble to finish my Master's thesis (in astronomy)
I used to watch ur vlogs back in 2017 to pass time except when i was studying back when i was appearing for my 10th boards exam here in India, its been 7 year since than bro, it was really nostalgic kindoff for me too get ur video recommend again...How r u doing man???
congrats on your accomplishment!
I'm leaving Exeter after four years this weekend so seeing this video is coincidentally bittersweet
So, Have you by any chance seen Spiffing Brits' video about supercuts? :)
loved this series
i'm sorry 11hours WHATTTT RESPECT
I was finishing my master’s at the time and had these vlogs on while writing up and editing. They were my company ~ 2017 body double flash backs…. 😅
