Scotty Kilmer i use dish soap with water(destiled) a a little bit alcohol, never had problems
Scotty Kilmer take water ,dish soap and alcohol it's pretty good and I use it for 20 years
Scotty Kilmer I’m surprised that the orange washer fluid had better ingredients than I thought. I’ve been buying the rainx washer for years, always trying to avoid the generic washer fluid because I thought it would ruin the washer hoses and create a leak.
Scotty I need more THRUST! / Captain Kirk!!!
Rain X works great. Never any complaints on my part.
As a widow l have found the importance of using quality products when it comes to your car. Now that my husband is no longer here to take care of the car l'm always looking at Scotty's videos so nobody can pull the wool over my eyes. Thanks for all you do in taking care of us and our cars. You truly are appreciated.
Who else read window? 😂😂
Continue watching CZcams. I'm 58 and by 50 I was still intimidated by anything mechanical. Then I got a 2003 Saturn Ion for free (from a frustrated millennial named Xeena). I thought it was too much to fix. Then I found CZcams and unintimidated myself and actually fixed all that was wrong. It's my every day car though it took me a year to figure out.(I intend to get 500K outta her). I'm proud of myself as you should be. I'm no longer mechanically challenged. I even fixed neighbor's Toyota (he didn't pay me back for electrical parts), but gave brother and I 12 year old rye instead.
Good luck.

I later realised that water is cheap too in the summer, and I thought hard about this as a youngster. To this day I've seen washer fluids still selling like a hot product even in the hottest climate.
Absolutely
I've been using the rain x for years. By far the best washer fluid.
Have you tried prestone?
Mr. Kilmer, I've been a proponent for quite a few products, for many years.
Rain-X ; I've been using it since 1984... My, (then girlfriend) was amazed how mud, snow, & ice would slide right off and rain would barely even touch my windshield.
Amsoil ; Love all thier products. Been using their products since my Dad was a Dealer for them in the 1970's, (1972‐'73).
Treadwright Tires ; Been using their tires since 1993... They started out being very affordable, and great traction in all weather conditions to a Tire Company that has Personal Customer Service, and an outstanding product built to take you anywhere you want to go be-it paved or just a slick-rock covered mountain and home again, safely.
Thank You for All You do to Help show how "easy" it is to maintain & repair or replace parts on our vehicles.

That's such an Oregonian thing to do, hahaha. I love it!

Been using this stuff for years and I love this one too. In fact, if I take my car anywhere that might refill my fluid, I top it off before taking it in.
Damn that's smart xD I personally do the small maintenance myself, but for anyone else I'm gonna tell them that lol.
Scotty is teaching stuff that I learned as a kid hanging out with my Dad's mechanic, plus some. Great Info. Since not every one gets to turn a wrench when their young.
Scotty, your youtube channel is awesome! Your videos have saved my $$$ and taught me more than I ever thought I would learn about cars. Thank you for your service.

Started using that when I was stationed in Hawaii in '89-'92 where the salty air left a stubborn film on everything, including your windshield. It lasts forever and I always keep a full gallon in my stash. Good choice, Scotty!!!
It does look delicious though...

I've only been using the rain x for years. Being up in Maine they have a de-icer version that works great! Especially after a nice winter storm and you have to clean them every 2 miles because of the dirty road spray! Beading the rain is absolutely a wiper saver and makes the drive that much safer. I will only use another kind if it's the only option in a pinch, I swear by the rain x.
Scotty, I love your very informative videos. I am almost an anti-dealer service department kind of guy. So, all you DIY stuff is great. Almost 71 and still working on my own cars. Thanks!!!
Thanks for your efforts to taught us everything you know, you literally helped me with my first car oil change, greetings from Mexico!

Scotty, I've been using Rain-x all season for over 10+ years, before that I would spread/polish the early Rain-ex "juice" directly on the windshield. All their products are awesome, at highway speeds I don't need to use my wipers, the water just beads off. You are absolutely, 100% correct with this recommendation, the stuff works and is worth the investment! Thanks and keep up with the great content.

Scotty; You're something else man, that's why I always look for you're advice. Thank you.

That stuff is great. Beading water on the windshields means that once up past ~50mph in the rain, I can just turn off my wipers and let the air blast clean off the windshield.
It adds to the safety of driving in the rain like you wouldn't believe.
To: SteelJM1,
I think it worked a little bit better back when it first came out, but when I first tried it, it was like being underwater in a swimming pool with swim goggles on, the way they make everything seem so much clearer, my windshield was like that!.... I was driving through the mountains in Tennessee and the rain had gotten so bad that most people had pulled over to wait it out, and I was driving by them at 65 laughing like a maniac with my windshield wipers off when I realized that I'd better slow down so that I don't hydroplane, just because I can see real well in an incredible rainstorm doesn't mean that I'm suddenly immune to the laws of nature.
@@joshhayl7459- Rain-X bottles used to have "polyvinyl alcohol" but the one I have now is "denatured alcohol" which can be any alcohol.
Right I use the stand alone rain x treatment and don't need to use wipers at speed either
I do that all the time on the expressway Rain-X just wipes it right away without the wiper blades
The beading action is awesome. I used the Rain-X spray to pre-treat my windows. On the highway the rain beads and flows off so fast that I can often run without even using the wipers.
True
Ordinary car was does the same thibg or even better ceremic coat your glass
I've been using the all season RainX for several years. Before that I used the Winter RaineX. I've tried their summer blend but it was not as good as their winter blends. Yep, RaineX is great stuff. Just remember to occasionally wipe off the overspray residue on the windshield as it tends to build up over time.

I already use the rain x. Good to know it was a smart idea.
I had to keep playing the part where Scotty says "I used to be really cheap; yeah isn't that a shocker". Still chuckling over that. Thank you Scotty for all you do for us.
I've used Rain X for years, and have also found out that it is the best. I'm sort of OCD about my windshield being clean, and this does the job great every time.
ye fakin bags maaan when they explode on windscreen and cant get em off i gotta stop and clean the windows cause drives me insane !!!
Rain X is essential. I use the summer and all season blends of the Rain X washer fluid. Also clean my windows with the Rain X window cleaner. I was skeptical at first but it really does make a difference for sure.
i love rain x. I hate having the wipers go back and forth. it annoys me so much. so I just use the rain x for the water beading.
Yup! I can't drive in the rain without it anymore. Never had any residue or anything that other people are talking about either.

The Tain-x works very well. The -35 F yellow Prestone deicer is amazing as it protects from re-freezing. Supposedly VW says not to use the rain-x as it fouls the sensor in the washer fluid tank.
I knew Rain-x was going to be the best, but I wanted to hear your opinion!
I LOVE Rain-x. At the end of the retail winter season, you can typically get Rain-x winter on clearance! so I stock up for next year!
It really helps against rain, I noticed it works better at higher speeds. regardless of your speed, I typically only had to wipe the water off after coming to a complete stop, but don't use them again after that! So it helps extend your wipers lives too!
I just moved 15 minutes out of town into the country and I hit so many bugs in the spring/summer so I wanted better wiper fluid. Rain-x covers everything for you, no matter what type you get. All-season or winter, or whatever other ones they have. they're all good. I have a milk crate in my trunk and I always have a gallon on hand. Just bought a used Honda Pilot and it's got the blue crap in it :(
Love your videos Scotty!!
Rain-X is the only windshield wiper fluid I use. It really saved me when my wipers started to go. I just put some in my mom's car the other day

Hey scotty big up yourself, nuff respect to you. When i need useful tips i watch your videos and they always work . thank you for what you do to help us drivers out there. Thank you for doing a great job. Nuff blessings to you and your loved ones.
Excellent tip is wipe your blades with iso alcohol once every 6 months, cleans all the grime off the wiper blades from the road. Excellent video Scott !!
ClusterHeadSurvivor I thought that dries out the rubber.
he actually made a video on how to clean wiper blades
Nothing much. It doesn't dry the blades if you just wipe them with it as Scotty stated.
I reached the same conclusion several years ago and only get the Rain-X stuff now. Combined with using Rain-X coating on the windshield and silicone wipers I have pretty good success keeping my vision clear. (until some big bug commits suicide right in front of me!)
Tim Douglass, they didn't commit suicide; you committed manslaughter! Shame on you.
JK
you mean.... bugslaughter? O_o
Problem with Rain-X is that if it is a light rain, it turns into a mess on your window and you can't see to drive. Very dangerous in my opinion. Works great in hard rain, but not in light rain.
@@lovemylifeflorida2641 I have no problems at all in light rain

Scotty you crack me up! I have watched dozens of these video's, where people think they are funny, or they think they can act. So far, your the best one!!! Thanks for making my day. I will give your Rain X a try!
Count on Scotty to tell you the straight up facts without beating around the bush. Much appreciated.
LOVE the Rain-X spray!
I’ve been using this stuff for years, it truly is the best out there.
I use the same RainX product! I love it and will not change unless the improve it in some way! Thanks for sharing. Love your videos!
I agree with the RainX products being the best. Been using that windshield stuff for years and the anti-fog stuff too. Works great.
This stuff really is worth it in my opinion. The greatest part is after a few squirts(washes), it leaves that "Rain-X" coating on the windshield & I hardly ever have to use my wipers anymore when it's raining. The coating it leaves isn't slimy or anything either. Love the "Lays" thumbnail by the way... nothing like buying a Frito-Lay product with three chips in it.
Do you guys still think it'll work in Michigan during the winters? Will it ever freeze during the cold months? Because it gets way below zero.
Andrew Gabriel shouldn't freeze. I've used this stuff granted I live in Oklahoma but we have had a few very bad winters and it never froze. And by bad winters I mean so much ice build up on power poles they were snapping and many people went for weeks and some over a month with no electricity.
Michigan and Texas are different “worlds”. This will offend Scotty, but your azeotopes should be calculated accordingly. I’m from Detroit area and use E85 and water mix. E85 is $1.99 and protects better than $2.50 bullx.
Andrew Gabriel they have a winter version and a summer version
Go put both “versions” in the freezer and tell me what happens? Read my comment, azeotropes should be accounted for and the labels not affect methanol concentration. Methanol destroys paint as Scotty mentioned.
A combination of new wipers and new fluid I would really like that scotty.
I really appreciate all the information and the product reviews that you do and just about anything that you review seems to be a very unbiased and truthful review a lot of the stuff that you talk about maintenance I do already but it's nice to hear that somebody else is putting the information out there for those who don't have a clue thank you very much BJC

Well, after this video they're going to raise the price even MORE! You wait and see.
I didn't till I drove from Florida to Jersey in March and needed something that wouldn't freeze. It cleans really good, and when it rains the water beads up and rolls off the windshield when driving.
Everyone buy it my the barrel
Scotty, many of us _really_ appreciate how you find something that _works_ and is a reasonable price. :-)
Loved my 92 Cressida wish I still have it it’s one of the best cars ever made by Toyota and I will buy this Rainex brand from now on thank Scotty.
We used to make this for a company many years ago, from what I can remember, it was about 30% methanol, the rest water and a little blue dye.
Nice, been using the Rainx Washer fluid for years, good to know I wasn't wasting my money.
If you need someone else to tell you that what you use to clean your windshield works, then you don't see well enough to be driving. ;-D
Scotty, I’ve been using the orange 2 in 1 All Season RainX for many years now and you are absolutely correct on this stuff!! The only difference is since I live in the Mid Atlantic and I travel to New York a lot to visit family I shop for the RainX that is rated for -25F. Always enjoy your video’s!!!!
Tim Castle it's actually not rated that low anymore... Scotty has a new gallon, and if you pay attention you can see it says zero now.
I had to dig out an old bottle last time I re-upped... I thought my memory was failing me, but they changed it.
Rain-X stills make and Walmarts sells the -25F, but not in warmer areas.
I hate to say this Stephen, but I just purchase a NEW gallon just yesterday 7/15/18 from a popular auto parts store and it states -25F.
I used to use the cheap stuff, and it ALWAYS froze on the windshield. Busted my new wipers and everything. I've been using the rain x stuff for over 2 years and it works like magic. Paired with their windshield wipers, is the best out there.
Love your vids Scotty. Keep em coming!

I am totally w/ya on this one! I used to get the 99 cent stuff too, but when I drove a 1965 VW bus, I always applied the Rain-X treatment to the windshields, and the wipers were not so great. Now I drive a 2004 Honda Element and use what you recommend here- If there is a light mist, the water just beads up and rolls off!
I mix mine at home. Methanol, water from the dehumidifier, a drop of dish soap and couple of drops of glycerin.
Thanks for you videos Scotty. They're AWESOME!
I love watching your vids. Thank you, sir !
I love the Rainx washer fluid... works great and wipers seem to last longer
Silicone wipers last longer than rubber also 👍
Thanks Scotty. This is what I'm going to buy.
Love your videos. Just got some Rain-X yesterday...glad to hear it's Scotty approved!
I agree completely about using Rain X. I have been using Rain X for a very long time and I am very happy with the results.
I'll try it. Never put much thought except to choose lowest freezing point... for that polar vortex!
I use a lot of washer fluid... well its not a lot to me, but a lot more than most other people I know. I used to have an hours drive to work, and had to get up and on the road early, so I used washer fluid every morning to clear the windshield, especially in the winter to clear the frost. But in the winter, I had a time with washer fluids freezing in the lines and nozzles, which slowed me down as I had to clear the windshield by hand, and did have any washer fluid if the window started to freeze over again while driving. I even had one fluid freeze in the tank before.
So I tried mutliple different fluids. The second to last washer fluid I tried was the Rainx winter fluid you were holding. I like the rainx windshield treatment, so figured their washer fluid would be good too.... Well, I ran it for a while and it seemed fine. But then it got down in the teens to 20's F one night, and the next morning it was froze in the washer fluid nozzles. Got the nozzles thawed out and working, so that day I added a whole bottle of alcohol to my washer fluid tank and flushed the lines, thinking adding the alcohol would stop it from freezing and I could at least finish using what fluid was in the tank. Well, the next morning the nozzles were froze again... and yes I made sure to flush the lines and nozzles when I filled the tank with the RainX.
In any case, I couldn't keep it from freezing, so the next fluid I tried was Preston's Winter washer fluid, which (if I remember right) was supposed to be good down to -35f. I used it for about the last 10 years, and Never Once had it freeze, in the lines or nozzles. And it cleaned the frost off really well. And since the winter mix worked so good, I bought their bug wash in the summer too and it worked pretty good as well.
Now Preston has changed to an "All season" mix. I still buy it, but I haven't been through a winter with it yet, as I had several gallon of their older Winter fluid stored up in my garage and just ran out this past spring. So I don't yet know if their "all season" is as good in the winter conditions as their older winter fluid was, but I'm hopeful. - just my 2 cents of experience.
If you added rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol, it's usually 30-50% water. You can get 91% isopropyl alcohol (9% water) at some drugstores. It's not for rubbing on the skin.
Your review is the best I have seen short and sweet.
Thanks.
I've used rain -x for years , I consider it a safety product , most of the time I dont even turn the wipers on , dont have to.
Best windshield treatment ever!
You have a beautiful lawn. Nice and green!
Rain X has always been the best, even the small treatment bottles.
I bought this after watching this video last year & I loved it. Then weeks ago I had my Subaru serviced and they replaced my washer fluid with whatever brand they use and it was making my windshield blurry. I went to local Walmart & bought this for less than $3 and I'm happy again. Never going back to anything else.
I know it's been a year since you posted this but thank you so much for this video! Not only did it crack me up but I am definitely in need of a good windshield washer fluid and you definitely sold this to me 😂

Hi Scotty, I make my own stuff...1 1/2gallon water, 8 oz Dawn, 4 oz Rain X liquid, 4-8 oz alcohol - depending on temp...works great
The stuff they were putting in at the dealership kept freezing. I just moved to Colorado and it’s supposed to get down to 1 degree this week. Ran out and bought this EXACT brand. Glad to see Scotty approves.
I have been using rain x for a couple of years now, and totally agree with his conclusions. Best stuff out there.
I like how you said about what is in washer fluid. Yeah thats not sunny D kids or orange juice. . Lol but yes ive used rain x myself . Especially when driving a tractor trailer heck going 60 to 65 mph the rain was flying off window my wipers were off . And I could see great. . Plus that all weather formula is great for ice and snow it wont really stick on glass. My dodge dynasty uses alot especially because one of the squirters broke and I made it work by putting the hose in the other squirter. Each wiper arm has 2 on my car and one broke so I moved it down to the other to make it function
I don’t even have a car yet but I need that windshield cleaner!
Great review! with all the whys and why nots that matter. THANKS Scotty.
