hope you guys love these shorts!! this video is a little longer so feel free to skip around using the timestamps if you don't need as much explaining :) as always feel free to comment any questions u have (or just say hi!)
Thanks the tutorial really helped me❤
Thanks for telling us to try on the waistband so many times! I’ve accidentally made stuff way too big in the past because I didn’t keep checking!
if u made something too big i think you can make a big chain and pull it through the waistband so you can make it as tight as you want
@@andreea4060 great idea! I’ve used ribbon in the past but that would look better ❤️
@@rebeccapilla2378i’m glad i helped you with my advice🤗
As others have stated, this is an awesome pattern for all sizes! One piece of advice for beginners trying out this pattern: it may take longer and use up more yarn than you expect, and that’s ok! Just trust the process🫶 I’m about halfway on mine right now and it takes like 25 minutes to finish a row but I’m sticking with it!
thanks for saying this bc i was surprised by the time it takes omg😭
For me it took just 12 min per row
I’m so glad she insisted on trying on the waistband I almost messed it up, this is a really great pattern !
when you're 11 rows in and realise you didn't do any increases
i did like 15 rows and didnt add the butt increases, crying in being lazy
oh noooo thats baddd
😂😂 Omg I have 52 and don’t know if it’s normal
THERE WERE INCREASES TO DO????!!!
Same 😓 frogging now
Omg thank you for posting a tutorial I’ve been obsessed with these shorts forever this is so nice and easy to follow along with thank you😭🩷
You're so welcome!
The best tutorial i have ever followed!!! Easy to understand and well explained, plus ACTUALLY SHOWS HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO FIT ON THE BODY! Thank you so much for this one, please make more!!!! Loved this
Great tutorial! Just made these with a few intuitive tweaks for shaping/sizing. For example, I made my waistband an inch smaller than I wanted, creating a V-shaped opening without connecting them where the front seam would meet in the first few rows by slowly increasing on both ends, eventually connecting them and working in a round. I then finished the edges off and crocheted eyelets to lace the shorts up in the front. You can also add elastic to the waistband!
this is so cute! ur tutorial was so easy to follow and i love the shorts i made thank you!
Hi Anna! I love this video! You explained everything so wonderfully. I'm never sure if I trust titles when they say "beginner-friendly," but this video really is. I wanted to let you know that I used your pattern, made a beautiful pair of shorts, and won a blue ribbon at a county fair. The judges loved them (there were a lot of ooh's and aah's), and they've been selected to go to the New York State Fair this year (2024). I don't have much else in the way of social media, so I can't tag you in anything. But I figured you should know your pattern is award-winning. Thank you so much for sharing it!
I can't wait to try to make these shorts! I've been looking for a pattern/tutorial for shorts so your video is perfect😊
yayyy let me know how it goes!
I made these and they turned out so lovely! Great pattern for larger sizes!
Wow I wanna try
Thank you so much!!! I'm not completely done with the shorts yet but they are turning out super good and you made it so easy to do and follow along!!
Can’t wait to make these! I’ve seen people weave in some elastic thread around the waistband to snatch at the waist!
Thanks so much for your detailed tutorial! Very helpful! I’ve made other crochet clothes, but never shorts! Very happy with how these turned out! Thanks again 🫶
🫶🫶 of course!
My shorts turned out so cute, thank you so so much, definitely one of the best tutorials for crochet shorts 🧶 ❤😊
Thank you so much for telling me i should try it on a lot of times, i almost made the ribbing like 20 rows to big because holding it onto my body and connecting it and wearing are two totally different things!!
Love the tutorial already!!
That was… PERFECT!! i saw your video by chance and tried it. Great video great explanation. Thank you for making this video. Continue and never stop🫶🏻
these are adorable!! starting my pair now with some yarn i haven’t had use for yet❤️
good luck!!
perfect shorts for summer thanks for the tutorial!!
love this! Another idea for getting it tighter is making little belt straps by chaining your preference then slip-stitching or sewing it to the waist band! :)❤😊
Thank you, you helped me a lot in this matter, I was looking for a normal short tutorial and I found it, it's gorgeous
I'm so glad!
just finished making your crochet dress! so excited to start these shorts 😊
yay!! let me know how it goes :)
@@anna-greenewhere can I find your dress pattern?
it’s on my youtube too! just search anna greene crochet mesh dress
@@anna-greene very pretty, but not practical for most in my family. 6 females, but I'm the only one who likes feminine, and I have no where to wear it. I'm 68 and my trips include doctor visits and ...Drs visits 😄. Ooh yeah, occasional yarn supply store!
Just finished these, soooo cute an easy pattern with clear instructions. I should have made a few more rows back and forth on the crotch to make it wider- covers perfectly standing but if I have to squat down it’s all over. Still adorable and will be my new beach shorts.
love it!! i can't wait to try ❤❤❤
Just finished mine and they came out so cute!
How long did it take
Dying to try. Kinda new so hopefully I can do this. Never done colour changes before
ah i just finished this and im so happy!

This is great! So detailed
Heyyyy I just wanted to say I finally finished these and added fabric lining! They are so so cute and cover pretty well without the lining already (I just want to wear them to school :P)
hii, how did you do the lining? did you watch a tutorial or you just know it?? because i want to line my shorts too :)
@@harshitak9494 My mom taught me, thankfully, but the concept is pretty intuitive to apply to any project once you learn it! You can def search up some videos on stitching fabric to crochet for it! You just may need a threading needle

Just made these it took me 4days but I made it a little tok big but it's okay it's still cute and it was also my first time making crochet shorts so practice makes perfect
I was looking for a video to make shorts as birthday present for someone so I will definitely be using your video
I came across this and I’m using your tutorial to make these for men. Thank you❤
these are amazing i am making them right now, this was super helpful thank you 🤍
🫶🤍
hello, could u maybe make a video with all kind of stiches and knots (like the basics basics) for absolute beginners? That would help me a lot to follow your great tutorials!!
thank you this tutorial was so easy to follow. 💕💕
I'm so glad!
tysm for this great tutorial! :))
I’m gonna make these! Although I’m gonna use a yarn that’s already multicolored so I don’t have to change colors to do stripes
Amazing! ❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you!
I just started some blue overalls and I started with this. I wanna try making 4 increases each row on the whole beginning part, I dont know if it is going to work but who knows
Excellent tutorial.
how pretty 🎀
thank you :)
Fantastic pattern! Going great . Finally got to try them on her at row 17. They fit really well , but I will have to increase the butt. Going for 2 increases, then try on again. Poochy little backside on the kid. I measured her rise at 14" and I believe it will take all that in the body length to fit the way I want them. but so far, so good. Thank you.
so confusing. i dont understand am i supposed to do increases until they fit? increases sometimes? like i just dont get it ive been working on these shorts for days and i feel like ive been wasting my time.
you are supposed to increase until they are the same width as your “widest hip point”.
in the video you have to increase two times every round at your hips, then after like 10 rounds you should increase an additional 2 times (so 4 per round) where your butt is (i increased every round for the hips but alternated rounds for the butt increases and it worked just fine so you have to figure out what works for you) then once you reach your desired width you have to continue working in the round without increasing or decreasing until you reach the point you want to split the legs (it depends on how high or low-waisted you want them to be)
hope this makes sense english isn’t my first language
do you have a written pattern for this? it is hard to keep track of what row i am on in the video
When you start the color rows do you half double crochet into the v shape stitches or the back of the stitch only ?
Gracias por el tutorial, no me costó tanto a pesar del idioma, los subtitulos me ayudaron! ❤
I'm trying to this short, it's so cute, but I have a question, my measurement is a little bit smaller that yours( like 9 in de difference) in the increase on the back, I have to do 2 increase per row or 2 inc per 3 rows? Besides the 2 of the inc on the waist/hip
Very cute! I love your content! 💘
aw thank you :)
yw! 💞
Wow! These are so cute! Gonna try making them🫶🏽 I’ll comeback when I’m done❤️
Finished the waist band❤️
I came across this and I’m using your tutorial to make these for men. Thank you
Thanks for watching! Hope they turn out well
Hi I have a question when doing the half double crochet do you put your hook under all 3 loops in the stitch?? (Body of shorts)
Just putting a comment here so i can go back and do this later!
You can add elastic to the waist for a perfect fit! ❤ if you buy the thin type you can just slip stitch around the ribbing and it makes it stretchy❤
muchas gracias, estan hermosos😊 saludos desde Argentina🇦🇷
These are so cute! How long did they take you?
could i use 5mm hook and do double crochets? i feel like it'd be so much easier.
Thank you for this tutorial! I have a question, if I want them more in like a straight fit, Should I continue with the same increases all the way? Do you have any tips? :D
What do you do about the hanging loose ends? Tie them?
Hi, it's very nice for me . I find that very nice .good luck.
slay tutorial
3.5 hook with what size yarn? If I do 4.5 with 4 is that okay?
So as I went on with my rows i realized the back (where the slip-stitch and color changes were) slowly moved to the right, I don’t know how that happened or what to do. Can I continue and be able to make the bridge to the front part still? or should i go back?
You need to turn your work don't work in the round its ehats causing the that seam to curve ❤
Question: my difference is 6inches, but I think I made my back butt too big. How many rounds do I keep inc?
Hi! Do turning chains count as chains?
what hook does the yarn require?
You can always make a chain and put it throw the waist band to make it tighter
mine is pointed in the center instead of straight what am i doing wrong
Does anyone know whh ny sean would be going triangular? I've restarted so many times and still goes into like a triangular sh a pe
Do you chain two for the legs like you do the body? And go the opposite way each row? Almost done with mine and I love them!
yes!!
do you have a written tutorial for this? i love watching the video and following along but sometimes i don’t know where i am as i’m skipping around the video and get lost and would prefer to see it as well as i do it!
so sorry, only the video pattern for now!
Hi! I really love your tutorial but I’m wondering if I can make them with a thicker yarn? Would it change anything in the process?
Probably the size, but as this pattern is pretty size inclusive you just have to try on again and again to make sure it fits right and maybe change some things from the pattern
I have gaps where I start a new row how can I fix this problem?
I really love this tutorial!! But I have a question if I find the front of the shorts a perfect length but in the back they are a bit short what can i do?
hmmmm you could try just adding some rows back and forth only on the back half of each leg but that may not look super smooth on the side where those rows end. if that doesn’t look good you may just have to add a couple more rows so that the front is a tiny bit longer
@@anna-greene okay thank you!!! Again i really love this tutorial!!!
Hi! I am about to make these in one color & have a question about ending the rows of the body. What do you do in place of slipstitching, chaining one, and then chaining 2 with the new color? Do you slip stitch into the first chain and just chain the two off of that?
yep exactly!!
@@anna-greeneI’ve finally got around to making these & have another question about the legs! do you literally do the same process of slip-stitching, chaining 2, and turning your work when adding rows to the legs? thank you!
What size shorts do you normally wear for reference on your final result?
xs or s! it really depends. my waist is 25-26” and my hips/butt are 38”
Won‘t slip stitching into two double crochets make the ribbing tighter then the rest of the leg part?
you have to slip stitch 1 to connect the ribbing to the leg and 2 to move to the next stitch. slip stitching 1 would leave you with double the amount of rib rows
When making the leg holes longer do you crochet over the bridge?
yes, you’re just crocheting into the row of stitches you just made in the row prior
waistband:
slip knot
ch 10 (3:20) this will be the height of the waistband
skip the first ch and 1 sc into every st
If I made the leg holes a little too wide are there any ways to fix that without undoing them?
unfortunately not really much you can do as decreasing now will only make them kind of “balloon” at the bottom
Can anybody help ive nearly made the shorts but there too big for the increases so now there like very wide out on the leg part help
Hi. Just started making these for my 8 year old granddaughter and I have a couple of questions. Her measurements are 26 waist, 30 hips, and 14"rise. I increased on rows 5 and 7 in the stitch marks and now measure 34 at the end of row 7. I do want them to be loose as she is still growing, and I think that would be more than needed for the loose width. But I worry about the rise. I also used an acrylic yarn for the waistband (26" long") and am using a variegated cotton for the body of the shorts, so I would assume that they would shrink a little bit when washed. My questions areat what row would I change things up to get the appropriate rise, and should I block the shorts after finishing?
I know it's a bit late and you probably aren't going to see this but I would make them a bit tighter than necessary so that after blocking they won't fit loose (especially at the crotch)
Ps: I blocked them right after finishing, and now they fit weird and I'll probably use them as pj's 😢
@@Cringystuffwithme thanks for the info. Since I posted, I've finished 3 pairs of these. The first two for that particular granddaughter. Fortunate that she is so small and not a big difference in body measurements. They fit beautifully, but did stretch out a little after wearing at the waist mostly. I had to make them into drawstrings due to stretch. The 3rd pair I made for a 23: year old granddaughter. These were more difficult to judge as she is 6 foot tall and has a mature figure and very high rise. I made them drawstring also, but my biggest problem with her was that the hip and rise increase caused the thigh width to be much bigger than anticipated. Not sure how hers will look on her, but am currently blocking, but only blocking the thigh part. These shorts are heavy and not meant for hot weather, so not sure when it will be appropriate to wear them as our temps here have mainly been in the upper 80's and 90's, so haven't gotten feed back about if these are comfortable yet.
I was following another pattern from tik tok and somehow the shorts ended up being super big and too long lol. I'm not sure what happened. I was following it for a size large and it ended up feeling like an xl or xxl. I need to make a medium. I'm gonna try this pattern. I'm using "I love this yarn" brand. And I'm not using the color yarn I used for the other one. It has like 4 to 5 different colors in it and there was too much black in it. So, I'm not Undoing the yarn. Hopefully it comes out better with this pattern.
my shorts were long enough in the front but couldn't fully cover my butt, so i added a few rows only on the back half before adding the ribbing!
I can’t continue because I have no idea if I should crochet each leg hole separately to make it longer or do both in one and crochet over the bridge? You didn’t show that :(
I hope you or someone else can help
you do each leg separately! completely finish one leg like I show in the video and then move on to the next :)
@@anna-greeneokay thank you so much
Girllll help ! I don’t understand the increases. I feel like it’s still so tight. What do I do ?? I don’t know where to add other increases to make it not so tight
Your body type is likely more hourglass shaped. To fix that just add another increase to each side or cheeks wherever you need that to increase just add a few exra increase and try on as you go
Hi! Can I do this with normal wool? Or do I have to USE some kind of cotton yarn?
i'm making these with acrylic and it's going great so far! not as comfortable as cotton but still works :)
@@meghan1248 ok thanks ☺️
@@meghan1248i‘m using a 30/70 cotton/acrylic yarn blend i think (could also be 20/80 not sure) and i love it, the acrylic makes it so stretchy!
i have a question so is it itchy when u have it on for sensitive skin and is it comfortable to sleep in aswell?
It depends on what yarn you are using
i’d recommend using 100% cotton yarn if you’re sensitive to textures of clothing! sometimes acrylic yarn can be uncomfortable to wear for long periods
If you're not changing colors, would you chain 2 or 3 at the beginning of the row? thanks!
I think still three☺️and otherwise it shouldn’t be a huge difference!
hi guys i need some advice. i only have 200g of the yarn i’m using but she said she used about 230g. should i do the waistband in a different colour or just risk running out of yarn?
You could make the waistband shorter or try adding different colors if you don't have enough of one
Would I be able to use weight 4 yarn and just have it be thicker?
yeah you can!
@@anna-greene thank you!
So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, the waist band turned out right but the rows after are all wavy/frilly looking
Try making less increases and/or doing less stitches in the first row that’s attached to the waistband. ❤️
how many skeins of yarn did you use for these shorts ?
2 skeins of green and black and 3 skeins of white
@@ciga91261 green and 1 black or two each? :)
Do I need to measure my waist?
What do I have to do, I wanna make this for a friend.
yes, you can go by waist measurement but you’ll also need their hips measurement like I show in the video so it can be put on easily
@@anna-greene ok thank you.
Bro your top comment is so sweet (hi!!)
HIIIIIIIII!
Mine are flaring like a skirt and idk what to do
Try doing less increases
Omg samee
I'm trying to add dec
Will it become bigger after washing?
yep there’s definitely a chance it’ll stretch out if washed and even just with regular wear, especially if you’re using cotton yarn
Do we have to accommodate fr the stretch while making the shorts?
do you think i could do this with weight 4 yarn?
you should be able to! you might need to adjust your hook size to accommodate
@@anna-greeneok thank you!
Cool pants cool idea cool everything. For all your tails or hanging loose ends are too much work. I would just crochet everything after I make new chains.
