@@StaxReacts Third Bass dissed Beasties on "Son of Third Bass" while at the same time sampling Beastie Boys music to make other tracks on the debut 3rd Bass album. So they were dissing while also biting as MCA pointed out. 3rd Bass never made a follow up diss. In fact, MC Serch straight up apologized later for dissing the Beasties. As I understand it, the members of both groups are cool with each other now and let bygones be bygones which I think is very mature.
3rd Bass yup MC Search dancing around like Janet Jackson. Check out Gas Face or Brooklyn Queens from 3rd Bass as an intro.

@@4Who4What I think so. Something like that anyway. Never cared for 3rd Bass, but MC Serch's solo album was awesome.
Beastie Boys are one of the greatest groups ever, period. But what gets lost in that and their style is the MCA was truly one of the greatest rappers ever. All three had their styles. Ad Rock was the visible leader, mainly because he was such a presence and the lead singer/guitarist on their rock/punk songs, but in every hip hop song there was always a sea change when MCA took to the mic.

Got to see them 1994 in their prime with probably 20k other people. They had a full band setup and DJ, went back and forth the whole set. Opened with Sure Shot. You heard that flute and we all went bananas..I don't think i've seen a show as hyped up since

"What's another name for pirate treasure?" I always forget how great this song is, especially when MCA hits back at 3rd Bass, who replaced the Beastie Boys on Def Jam. And if you haven't checked out any 3rd Bass yet (I don't think you have), you should give "Gas Face", "Stepping to the AM" and "Pop Goes the Weasel" a try. The latter is a diss to Vanilla Ice.

I remember hearing 3rd Bass initiated the beef because Beasties left Def Jam for Capitol Records (which 3rd Bass mentions in “Sons Of 3rd Bass”). Hard to think that wasn’t the label instigating it. Beasties were the first huge white rap act and had already released Licensed to Ill and Pauls Boutique (two absolute classics) by the time 3rd Bass’ debut came out. No reason to diss other than to get some publicity.

Here is what is wild family, I'm sure some other folks probably already mentioned.. MCA verse was long said to be directed at Search from 3rd Bass. 3rd Bass has a song on their debut album dissing the Beastie Boys called Sons of 3rd Bass.
MC Search was known to do a lot of dancing in live performances & he was kind of chubby so most folks including myself felt like it was a MC Search diss

This song is a masterpiece. Totally relate the Mike D's confession, as music has been a lifeline for me, too. I've read articles that make me think MCA regretted going hard on this set, being negative. I get that, there's some gender shaming in his metaphors that he righteously rethought, but I also think it's one of his most powerful lyrics. I love his cadence and his passion. And calling out poseurism. And the bass drop at the end? Big fan here, too hard to have a favorite, but this is in my top five.
