  • Join the residents of the Brandon Estate, Southwark, on a day trip to Canvey Island. Filmmakers Richard Morgan and Brian Waterman illustrate the recipe for the annual outing: 'First take 400 apples.150 lbs of sweets. Find 300 children. Label them well. Pour into 10 coaches. Add first aid. And helpers as needed. Let travel for 2 hours. Finally spread evenly all over Canvey Island. Topping up regularly with egg and chips, cakes and ice cream. Then relax and enjoy it.' They show children on the fairground rides and a few brave residents on the windy beach. Morgan and Waterman were key members of the Brandon Estate Cine Club, whose films are preserved at Southwark Local History Library and Archive: www.southwark.gov.uk/info/2001.... For the catalogue record of film LSA/1490, see the LSA website: www.londonsscreenarchives.org.uk.
