    Squiers today are good guitars. You just have to change the strings, polish the frets, set them up to your preferences and you're ready to go. These are good times for new guitarists (actually for the old ones too).

      @JordanBallaMusic  Před rokem +5

      Yeah, i was so pleasantly surprised by it.
      The strings right out the box for me were good quality, the frets were smooth and a joy to play. It definitely needs a little bit of a set up to get it how i like it, but right out the box it was pretty much perfect 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

    I've had the white Esquire Tele for a little over a week. It's an outstanding guitar. The sound is great, the intonation is excellent, I lowered the strings just a hair, no neck adjustment needed, the neck and fretboard are smooth. Two complaints, but they're easily solvable: Fret ends are sharper than the other Squire Teles I have, and the nut holding the jack output got loose once - I tightened it and it hasn't happened again, but we'll see.
    I bought mine for $199 through Sweetwater. For this price, you can't go wrong with this guitar. And if you just got a wild hair and wanted to make all the "standard" upgrades: pickups, pots, jack, tuners, etc., for another $300 or so, you'd have a guitar that plays as well and sounds as good as just about any overpriced Fender Tele.
    It's too bad Squier doesn't have some other shades of paint lying around. I love the white, but the only other choice, at least through Sweetwater, is an ugly purple with a laurel fretboard. It looks like fucking Barney. I own 8 Squire Teles (all the different models) and this Esquire is as good as any of them.

We just got a regular black Strat as always! 🙃 Had to find a used Mexican Strat to get something that wasn't black or sunburst, and they ain't cheap these days. 😛 I love the vibe of this pink Strat, it would probably be killer with a few mods!

    I love my Squier P bass, it's killer.
    Also if you didn't know, only half of the intonation is in the bridge, the other half is in the nut slots. Almost all guitars that aren't ridiculous money never have the nut slots cut right and so if you want "perfect" intonation get the nut right

    • @bufferkiller
      @bufferkiller Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@Ronno4691 As a pro luthier, I can confirm this is 100% correct.
      Set the neck relief before you mess with the nut or bridge, though. Capo the first fret and measure the 8th fret while fretting the 17th. This takes the nut and bridge heights out of the equation. Straighten/relieve the neck until you’re as close to the 8 or 9 feeler gauge as you can get. Always measure everything in playing position while tuned to pitch. Tune after each adjustment and then measure.
      Good height to measure with the feeler gauges are, from high e to low E:
      12
      12
      14
      16
      18
      20
      General area to start with intonation is the high E saddle set to the guitar’s scale length. B is 1/8” longer, G 1/8” longer than B, D is even with B, A is even with G, and the low E is 1/8” longer than A. This will get you very close, if not spot on. Any adjustments from here will be very minor.

      Me and a pal have been modding my Squier and Epiphone Strats, Teles, Les Pauls and Jacksons for the last few years and my black/Chrome Squier standard Strat w/mirror pickguard got the full treatment - fret crowning/polishing/levelling, upgraded Pots (Potentiometers), upgraded electrics, a set of Seymour Duncan Hot Rails, Elixir strings, superior quality selector switch + input jack plus a new Graphtech nut & string trees and it plays like an absolute dream! A $140.00 aftermarket tremolo was considered but ultimately left off the menu for now. The learning process for this was long, costly and (very) frustrating at times but modern day budget Squiers et al CAN be made to sound and play like sub-1000 dollar guitars. And with better results than the mediocre setups from your local in-store guitar shop store "Luther" or "guitar tech"...

      They both are very similar, the affinity series gives you a bit more when it comes to options for the guitars, more styles more pick up configurations and more bridge types. Quality wise and sound will be very similar but I imagine the affinitys use better hardware

    All guitar shops should properly set up their stock. I've played $1,000+ Fenders in shops that were absolutely shite to play! That's not good for an expensive item, in fact, it's like buying a BMW with wonky seats and bent steering wheels and dud gearboxes that need $$$$$$$$ to have fixed AFTER you pay for it!

    • @JordanBallaMusic
      @JordanBallaMusic  Před 11 měsíci +2

      I hear you, but set ups are personal preference, all guitars get a set up from the factory they’re made in by the brand but obviously because of transportation and sitting on a shelf or shop floor for a long time their going to need another setup at some point. Quite a few shops offer a set up when you actually buy the guitar so its ready for you when you take it home. But it would take waaaay to long for someone at the shop to keep setting guitars up every 6 months or so just incase someone buys it

    • @Ronno4691
      @Ronno4691 Před 11 měsíci +2

      @@JordanBallaMusic Good point. I'd personally train any staff in setting up their shop floor stock from the budget stuff upwards - a guitar that feels great to play at first try is a guitar that beginners, intermediates and super-Musos will buy! It's not as if full time staff don't have the time...!

    • @JordanBallaMusic
      @JordanBallaMusic  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@Ronno4691 yeah Thats fair enough, i get what you’re saying, it should definitely be a priority for music shops, but as someone who has worked in one for a while unfortunately, sometimes the staff actually don’t know how to set up a guitar well enough for it to be at a high standard.
      If you go to a small specialist guitar shop then maybe all the guitars will be set up perfectly, but a big store that has loads of stock and shops around the country is not gunna work.

    • @bufferkiller
      @bufferkiller Před 8 měsíci +2

      Before I trained as a luthier I was a tech at Guitar Center. Not many of the techs are actual luthiers, and part of their pay is commission that is based work done to hours worked. So overtime kills commission. That being said, they’re also “required” to setup at least three instruments off the showroom floor per day. They do not count toward commission, so they often don’t get done unless work is slow.
      The cost of paying someone to set each one up, including those still boxed up in the back, is not financially feasible for a company constantly on the verge of bankruptcy.
      That being said, you can usually get a free setup if you ask the salesman as you’re decided to purchase or not. I did them all the time, albeit nowhere near my standard now. Better than no setup, though, in most cases.

    • @bufferkiller
      @bufferkiller Před 8 měsíci +2

      Also, it isn’t at all like buying a car with those issues. A setup needs to be done annually at the very least. I do at least two a year because of the extreme weather changes where I live. Comparing a damaged car to a guitar needing a setup is a bit dramatic. It is more like buying a new phone. You still have to set it up, no matter how much you paid for it. Even iPhones need some setting up.
