- In this installment of the 538 Politics podcast, the crew asks why the end of the primaries, weeks of Biden campaigning and millions spent on advertising have changed the polls so little.
Three months ago, as the presidential primaries were getting underway, President Joe Biden was trailing former President Donald Trump in the polls nationally and in battleground states, and concerns about his age were coming to the fore. The optimistic view for Biden was that once the presidential primaries were over, and it became clear that the choice was a 2020 rematch, the polls would move in his direction. But the polls have changed little. In fact, a new set of battleground polls from The New York Times/Siena College shows Biden trailing in all but one of the battleground states, with a lead for Trump as high as 12 points in Nevada.

The whole Biden age thing is cooked up by bad journalism. People have vague misgivings about Biden and if you ask them " oh do you think your vague misgivings are because he's old?" They'll be like " yeah sure I guess". But they probably say that about most reasons you could possibly provide.
Nah, it was the Hur report and the concerns he raised eye-opening for the American people.
The problem isn't Biden's age per se, it's how his physical and mental abilities have declined dramatically since he was Vice-President, and especially since he became President.
If he was 60 years old and acting this way there would be big questions.

The focus of any discussion about the race should focus on swing states and districts with the context of the discussion being a critical interrogation of the electoral college with an intention to reform that broken system that is literally giving the right to be counted away from millions of Americans.
