Mother for Dinner sounds fascinating! Bummer it wasn't very good...
Hey Cat... Well, I don't know if I've mentioned (or if you'd pick up by my name) but I'm jewish (from both sides of the family and I've grown up with this religion, not orthodox, but practicing more than not. I like it and try to keep it in my life.
About Mother for dinner... I am interested and I have to mention that the canibalism element probably is a very sharp metaphor. I dare say EVERYTHING in judaism celebrations has to do with food: Weather eating it or not and what to eat. And carrying out the religious culture of judaism is always eating or not the provided "food", going or not to the celebrations in synagoge or family's houses, where there are eating elements. Where, when, what to eat.
I'll try to get the book and give it a try.
The next holy day, day of celebration is called Purim, when we give food treats to friends, and the typical food eaten is called Hamantaschen, if you want to check it out =D
Other interesting facts are that Shalom is hebrew for peace and Auslander means Foreigner in german, adding more meaning to the author's name (real or pseudonim); and in Judaism the importance of women is so much larger than that of men, and the Mother role is sometimes something of a Momzilla monster of its presence in the house, so I think all of the synopsis you've given sounds like a book that I'll enjoy.
Intrigued by Wretchedness! When it comes to BL or M/M manga, manhwa or webtoons I can recommend Painter of the Night by Byeonduck (very smutty, Lezhin Comics), Jealousy Vol. 1-5 by Scarlet Berico and the Classmates Series by Asumiko Nakamura, which also has a sweet animé adaptation. MADK (currently two volumes) by Ryo Suzuri was also interesting 🙂

Oooooooohhhhhhh!!!! Very interested in most of them! At the tippy top are Jealousy & MADK with Painter of the Night next. Added to my TBR!!!! I recently read Birds of Shangri-La from a recommendation and it was freaking fantastic. Very much had Twittering Birds vibes. Highly recommend!!! (If you were the one who recommended it, I'm sorry! I have it in my journal for when I wrap-up but can't remember off-hand.)
@@biblioobscura Yeah, Birds of Shangri-La was my recommendation! I LOVE the story and art work in this series. So happy you liked it! I think you also will enjoy the exquisite thriller/mystery manga In These Words by Kichiku Neko/Guilt pleasure, which I also recommended 🙂
