One of my rules is "the view from the house." I love to look out my windows and plan the view I see from inside.
Me too...this bed is actually not facing the house at all...that is an excellent point though. 😀
All of my beds are around my foundation of the house and this year I’ve finally started gardening around the outer edge of the lawn so I can actually see them from inside!
I'll enjoy watching you put this garden in! I learn so much when I can watch someone work and not just see before and after photos.@@gardeningTLC
Friends love my gardens and have told me that they remember my comment that I plan my gardens this way.@@LovelyIslandVacation-ch6wo
I used this idea when planting a family members yard. I knew the view they would see most was from their porch, so stood near the porch to plan where to plant things. ☺️
One of my landscaper tricks is to take a garden hose to outline a potential bed area and then adjust it accordingly. I like to check out the design from an upstairs window and all different angles from the street and sidewalk.
That's a great idea!
Yes👏my husband thinks i was abit overboard but guess what he enjoys seeing it and doesn't question it anymore 😅
I watch a LOT of gardening videos and I have to say this is one of the very best ones I’ve ever seen - so helpful!!! Thanks so much for taking us through your design thought process. WOW!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I wish I would have found you ten years ago ! I’m 60 so I really shouldn’t be designing another garden 😅
Haha. I can relate.
Me too. We have been in the same home 23 years & are getting ready to downsize a bit. We haven’t even found the new property yet & I am already planning. I must be insane.
I seriously love you! Haha you are so peppy and when you talk, you are quick and to the point. Not a lot of fluff, or the occasional “umm” or “so” or whatever. I enjoy watching your videos! Very inspiring and informative! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh thank you!
Thank you so much being so giving, I just love how you did this video, I so enjoy watching you again just what I need. You give me so much joy. I am 87 and still planing and doing everyday. I too love to look out my windows and plan and enjoy. I am working hard to make my beds pretty all 4 seasons with not much upkeep. I planted 0ver 500 bulbs last fall and so enjoying them coming out of the ground now, next will be my peonys then roses my roses are taking to much care so I am taking out a few and adding Nepeta, Russian Sage, Sedum, Salva and etc. Thank you so much you make my day.
Oh..that is wonderful
How impressive, I am in awe! It is encouraging for all of us.
I would give this video a 10 thumbs up! I love all your content and you have given me some great ideas for our property.
Awesome! Thank you!
OMG! where have you been all of my life??? New subscriber here and I'm sooo glad I found you. I will be bing watching all your videos.
Welcome!!
I like the computer design deal. It makes picturing all of the plants much easier!
Me too
@gardeningTLC hi Michelle, always enjoy your videos and your energy. What software program do you use for the landscaping design? We are moving into a lakehouse, I'm stressed out about the design. Appreciate it.
I'll second that what program are you using?
It is a professional software that I used, well still do, when I did a lot of landscaping for my company. It is called PRO Landscapes
@gardeningTLC thank you Michelle. How much do you charge for landscape design?
As an aspiring landscape designer and horticulture student, I so appreciate your knowledge and energy! Many thanks! 🙏
Girrrrrl….you are so ammmmazzzzing!! Thank you for being so you and giving with your knowledge, passion and totally relatable! Please keep posting your awesome videos! ❤
You are so welcome!
Great video! The wheels are turning in my head! Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge in a very digestible way. Can't wait to get my hands dirty!
Very helpful! Would love to see a video on how to design a natural/graceful transition from the wild woodland that surrounds our home to borders and lawn. Looking forward to following this project as it develops!
Great suggestion!
I love your enthusiasm! Such a great lesson and principles to use. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks for watching!
I loved the visual. this was a great episode. Thanks Michelle! It will be a great addition to your garden. i loved your use of shrubs and tree's!!!!

Thanks so much! 😊
I love your videos! I have learned so much. For years I have been buying things I like at the moment and putting them places. Now I plan to organize my beds.
It's going to be gorgeous! I love all your energy .
Thank you so much!!
You are the best! This helps so much. Just watching you makes me feel confident to get started on a plan. Glad you are in my zone and your taste in plants matches mine. 😊
You are so welcome!
This is very helpful. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to start designing my front yard and the side of my home.
You are so welcome!
I love what you're doing; keep showing people what is possible with a little bit of work. Stay strong in your biology, it is your health and your plants health. :))
I thought the yarrow was ‘Autumn Joy’ sedum😊. Like you said, so many variables, and different designers will all come up with different designs!❤. Love the statue btw!
Looks great. Love your no nonsense presentation and the fact you use the universal points of composition and color harmony.
Thanks!
I love this video!
Great info and perfect time of the year to be watching this! ❤
Glad it was helpful!
A specimen or focal point plant is still an odd number…1!😊
You are so much fun to watch and listen to, you should have your own tv garden show. Love your energy and enthusiasm. Thanks for all the tips on gardening!
Um, this is one of the best videos I’ve seen on how to set up a floral bed. I appreciate it so much. I just watched it twice and will probably watch it again. You have so much knowledge and this video was amazing.
Like a lot of others have mentioned, I have a huge garden area to plan. I have added so many plants, and coming in to year 3 in this newer to me yard, I can see I have already made a lot of mistakes. I can grow plants, but I have horrible design sense. Your tips are helping me understand what I’m doing wrong. Thanks so much for this series.
Oh when I was a new gardener, I made quite a few jumbled hot messes. Even as an experienced gardener you are always learning. I just cleaned up a hot mess bed this fall. But you can adjust and transplant and change...that is what is great about gardening.
Thanks for another great video! I’m motivated.
So glad! GO GO GO!!!
Way beyond what I expected, but I should have known coming from you… such enthusiasm!
This is great because I need to do the east side of our home so I can actually just copy it!
Thank you so much, no wonder your subscribers are growing so quickly, you are not afraid to share your talent.
Can’t wait for the shade video, that covers 80% of our acreage😂😂.

Make sure to sub in zone 4 plants where there might have been zone 5 in the video.....if u need suggestions for subs let me know.
Oh ya… I counted on that. I will look for the same structure and type but suited to my zone.
Thank You for the reply.
I've been gardening for over five decades and agree with your seven steps. Kudos for starting with soil! Planned weed suppression is also important - especially when you want low maintenance. At 62, I want to control my garden instead of the garden controlling me! I loved your plant placements and focal point stature & anchor boulder. I'm an artist so the color wheel and texture is my jam. You included both beautifully!
ahhh..Thank you :)
I love these video series! ❤❤❤
Super, dziękuję za wiedze❤
You are welcome
This is beautiful!

Excellent. I have a big problem with deer, chipmunks, wood chucks......I live in the country! This has given me ideas....I am wanting beds with more flowers and less maintenance. Thank you
Glad to help
Fantastic visual! You are a great teacher! Very inspirational!
This is so helpful! I’m going to watch again and take notes!
Great info. I love your boulder. Now I need a boulder.
Very good video! I like your design!
Thank you very much!
5* ideas. Thank you.
Omg that is going to look amazing!!!!!! The only problem I have is that everything is so expensive up here in Canada Ontario! So my garden bed is slowly evolving
One season at a time...
Looks gorgeous!!

I live in Kentucky @@gardeningTLC , zone 6b/7a.
I live in Kentucky @@gardeningTLC. Im zone 6b/7a.
I just found your channel. Your plan for this planting bed is wonderful. You didn't mention this, but you also created a pollinator garden with the perennials you chose. I love it, thank you for all the good ideas.
I just discovered your account! Loooove it!!
Yes she is simply amazing ❤specially for someone like me who is a first time gardener!
Great information!!! I love your choice in everything that you are putting in that area!!! Im in Indiana, the weather this week has been mild, I can't wait to start planting again. I'm changing a few things around, counting the days until Spring!!
yesss shade please! 🙂The front of my house is North facing and I want it to have interest year round but it's so hard to find things that can take full shade in the winter and also take part sun in Summer. Thank you for all you do, your video layout is great!
Hi Michelle! Thanks a lot for your video! I also live in 5 zone, I love to plant a plants and flowers. Have a great day!
Thank you! You too!
I appreciate this video and your perennial pairings so much!! I am a new gardener with lots of property to develop (almost an acre of different garden beds I'm planning). I do a lot of research but having the steps broken down like this with the visual is unbelievably helpful! The bed I'm focusing on this year is East facing. This is perfect 😊 thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This video was so informative. I loved it. I subscribed now teach me everything you know! I love watching gardening video, but they show planting but they never explain the process! This was great!
Nice video! comment to support this channel. Give us more of your garden!
Thanks for visiting
That looks beautiful… can’t wait to see it all come together this Spring/Summer!! Love your channel 💕
Thank you so much!
Just found you !! So glad i did.
Great way to start the year ❤
Thank you!
I’m impressed with your design and thoughtfulness in color, type of plantings, and seasons of interest! Great video!
So nice of you. Thank you
I just recently discovered you and love your content!! You have already helped me pull together ideas. Thank you.
Awesome! Thank you!
That was great
Your entusiasm is infectious. I had to subscribe. I love how you planned this out. I have a big yard and can't wait to practice your method. Thank you!
Thank you and welcome!!
designedbyai is perfection for on a budget dreaming, I got backyard oasis ideas in minutes.
Hi Michelle. I wish I’d found your channel 3 years ago! I garden in zone 8b, near the east coast of Virginia. My weakness are roses. Last year I made the mistake of planting my purple Salvia in front of my small pink rose bushes. The Salvia was way too tall and shadowed my immature pink rose bushes. When I first planted the Salvia, I didn’t pay attention to how tall it would get. I will probably have to rearrange my Salvia (transplant) and put them behind the rose bushes (ugh)! I also have rose obelisks that have climbers for vertical interest and a bird bath. I have hummingbirds that love the Salvia as well as bees. Since I house Purple Martin migratory birds in my backyard each year and I have a dog, the font yard is the only place I have to use for my flower beds. I also deal a lot with black spot and powdery mildew since we have high humidity. But, it’s worth the extra work to have my roses. 😊 Thank you for your videos.
That sounds beautiful though
Great Video!!!!! I love how you showed the planting for the bed in front of the barn. The visual is worth so much. You said you used software for your landscape design, is this software for novice -something I could find and or use - any landscape software you would recommend for home novice. I love the Echinechia, I planted some Salsa red a few years back and a bunny got in my back yard and ate it! I planted more last year - and yes, bunny gets in my fenced back yard eats my coneflower and Phlox plants! I can't figure out how bunny is getting in - it is young so it is smaller than full grownn, but they can squeeze through small voids - so I am out this spring with yard cloth again closing up any voids!!!! I am successful at keeping the deer out my backyard though.
It is professional software and not a homeowner version...it's pretty expensive, but if you are a landscaper or a designer it's worth every penny. It is called PRO Landscape
@@gardeningTLC I checked out that software, $1,500 is probably overkill for me to spend for my project but If I had a lot more to do, I am sure it would be worth it as you say. I found software called - Realtime Lanscaper Pro - I bought a used 2014 version on Ebay for $16.00 . I figure, if I like it and need to buy the current version at $279, I will. I will try this out and see. It is supposed to have 6,500 plant library and supposed to be easy to use.
I just found you. I live in central Illinois but send to live in Antioch . Can’t wait to watch your videos!
Awesome! Thank you!
I like all your selections. Maybe some Sedum Autumn Joy along the border in front for fall interest. Bonny
Really enjoyed this. New subscriber!
Welcome aboard!
Wonderful video! I also have a large backyard to fill, however, mine borders a wetland buffer (lots of hungry critters and boggy spots). Unable to have a fence, I'm working out a fruit tree & cottage garden perimeter without feeding all the deer & woodchucks. Not so good with planner apps, so I use the photo editor on my phone to draw in ideas. Also, on the cheap and using stem cuttings & seed from my front cottage garden and neighbor sharing. Patiently waiting on many hydrandea, roses & peonies to mature... the hardest part! I'm now rethinking foundation plants to include winter interest.Thank you for sharing your ideas & experience.
Thank you for watching!
Hi Michelle, as always, another great video! You asked for suggestions for what would Michelle do videos. As a gardener, I have dealt with this issue. I am currently dealing with this condition with an oak tree. A video suggestion would be identifying chlorosis. Also, immediate and long-term steps to take to prevent plants from potentially dying that are struggling with chlorosis. Please include any products you recommend helping to correct this problem. Thanks Michelle!
Thank you for the suggestion. I have never had to personally deal with chlorosis. I know what it is, but have zero "hands-on" experience dealing with it. Laura at Garden Answer deals with it and treats it regularly, might be a good source to get better answers than I have.
I love your positivity, every single time I watch. I admire your designs and wish i could achieve something similar ❤️
Thank you so much!
Wonderful video!! I just found you, and am a huge fan! Thank you for such great content! ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
I've just discovered you! Love your enthusiasm about gardening and of course plants. I live in zone 8 (North East Alabama). Very challenging as I'm convinced that area is zone 7a at time and it feels like zone 8b sometimes. The soil is red clay and needs consistent encouragement. I'm trying. Your podcast on the cone flowers and different pollinator plants was excellent. Thank you.
My pleasure
Wonderful video. I have been putting off redesigning and old flower bed. I’m 77 and my flower beds have changed from full sun to part shade and so many perennials have died and now I need to replace with more shade tolerant ones.
Great video! So happy I found your channel! New subscriber. I am recently retired and am planning on getting serious about designing some new beds this Spring.
Welcome. I am so glad you are joining us.
Hi Michelle, thanks for another great video! Would you consider doing a video putting a cottage garden in this space to compare and contrast to your more structured look? 🙏🏻
I have a cottage garden on the other side that we did last year. I will be doing one where we actually add to what we started so hopefully that will be what you are looking for. That one probably wont be until May though.
What kind of design software did you use here? Such a beautiful project! Thank you for sharing!
It is professional software and not a homeowner version...it's pretty expensive, but if you are a landscaper or a designer it's worth every penny. It is called PRO Landscape
I just found your channel and I am absolutely thrilled with your videos . I need help planting around a tree Crimson King Maple . It was planted 4 years ago so it still is small 7 foot high
Check out the dry shade video
