When the student is ready, the teacher will come. I learned SO much in this video.
Love that you are a problem solver. The visuals are so helpful. I'm glad I found your channel.
Me too!!
Finally…a garden bed video with practical, beautiful advice!
Glad you liked it!
“Do what you got to do with what you have!” Love it! Sometimes that’s you have to do.
So true!
Excellent! Knowledgeable, practical, and extremely helpful. I still say this the best landscape gardening channel I’ve found, and I’ve watched many, many landscape channels.
So nice of you
Agree
Hands down the best landscaping channel on YT
Haha. Probably not. But thank you for your kind words.
I'm so glad I found your channel! Been struggling for 3 yrs to landscape a 20' x 70' sloping space around my water feature I had installed.
me too! Michelle is a great teacher.
Thank you
I always think of the lawn as “water” that flows throughout the garden, and islands are like islands out in the ocean…and who doesn’t love an island!😊
Oh, Michelle - this is so very helpful! I can't say thank you enough for the ideas and inspiration in each and every video!!
You are so welcome!
Loved all your tips and enthusiasm
Thanks so much!
I's funny to me that some neighbors are constantly saying you should do this or that! My garden, my rules.....Great video!!
Love that!
Really love your channel not only for the useful information but especially for the great designs that we can create ourselves. And I like that you give different plant options. I’ve enjoyed and learned from all the videos. It’s something different from other channels I watch. Keep it up!
Another wonderful informative video. So much appreciate you sharing your knowledge. 💕💕🎶🎶
Ok … I now have around 1000 screen shots on my phone from watching this landscape series.
So many great ideas. Thank you 🌿
You are so welcome!
Great video…I just cut down my 40 YEAR OLD old WEEPING CHERRY tree and needed ideas for a new island bed…love all of your ideas but think I’ll go with the Ornamental Crab tree and other suggested plants… thanks a bunch!
More great ideas! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You bet!
Michelle, you amaze me! Such great ideas! Thank you for sharing all the fabulous ideas today with the island beds. You have given me some food for thought on my existing beds to make improvements. Have a super blessed week! ❤
Thank you so much! You too!!
Oh my goodness! I love them all! You know your stuff, Michelle. These all have a very well designed look. May steal a few ideas from a couple of these.
Go for it!
Thank you for showing us actual photos instead of sketches which to me are useless. It's one thing to draw something on paper, but much easier for an amateur like me to see it for real. Everything you say about balance, winter interest etc. makes perfect sense. Thank you!
You're welcome 😊
Well… you’ve just about designed my whole yard now!!😂 I am doing a front Island near the entrance and the info you gave on this video and the other design videos is just great!
Thankyou once again for the great advice and info, such a great instructor. Wish I lived near your Greenhouse, I’d be there every day!
Brenda🇨🇦
Have fun!
great video, thank you for sharing. this was very helpful and again thank you
What a helpful video! As I’ve commented before, seeing a visual of the beds at maturity is so useful for someone trying to imagine what the bed will look like when it all grows in. That technique really fills in a gap in the land of gardening videos. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise!
Every single one of your plans for this issue was FABULOUS SISTA!!!!!!
I’ve taken 1000 😂 screen shots after watching each bed design!!!!
Awesome awesome awesome sista!!!!
❤️❤️❤️
You are so welcome
Great info and video!!!! Thanks, Michelle!
Always so fascinating to hear your very sound, and very thorough, advice on landscaping.Hope your channel keeps going for a long, long time. 💚😊💚
So nice of you
VERY timely, Michelle - thank YOU!!! I am a fellow Northern IL (Northbrook) 5b gal and am working on 2 islands for my front yard. Your suggests were very helpful as I struggle with part and full sun areas. We had thundersnow here last week - so cool - and I am loving the precip for now. So glad I found your channel a few weeks ago!
Hi Michele🌺
So 💚 your videos. You give such great ideas. My husband and I have built a new cape cod and are working on getting the inside done. The home sits in the middle of the property in full sun. I was thinking of planting some hydrangeas in the front, but like the boxwoods and those small juniper shrubs as well. I’ve watched another garden show and the hydrangeas stained their siding. What would you recommend? Thanks for your advice.
@@sharidruckenmiller9372would that be Garden Answer with Laura? lol, I saw where her hydrangeas stained the house! 😊
Northlawn Flower Farm found a solution when her hydrangeas stained her garage and she did a video on it about 8 months ago?
She tested 3 different attempts with different products and found one that worked, I think it was a vinegar solution.
I always wanted to let Garden Answer know but looked at the amount of comments they get and gave up thinking they’ll never read it 🤷🏻♀️.
@@staceyallard2692 yes, it was Laura from Garden Answer…😀
Wonderful! And welcome neighbor😀😀
This was so helpful!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Love your channel! I just purchased an older home is in desperate need of an update inside and out. You are giving great info for my yard
The last island is similar to what we are needing. Thank you for the ideas, and for showing the spirea in place of the hydrangea and the drift roses vs perennials. Hydrangeas and I have a sad history. Missouri 6A...hot, humid, but dry summers.
Yup..and you are welcome 😀
Hi Michelle! You look just like my cousin that passed last year. I wish you nothing but life girl. I came for the advice.
This was awesome! Thanks!
You're so welcome!
Great information!
Bookmarking this video to watch again and again! Thanks for the Valuable tips. I love how I can put your knowledge and experience to work in my very different zone 8a New Mexico yard - all I really have to do is choose the right plants. P.S. your videos are so fun to watch too!
Perfect!!!
Best gardening channel. Best tips.
Great teacher... ❤
Wow, thanks
Your channel popped up on my feed and it was absolutely fabulous! We live in Texas and I’m not sure some of the plants are deer resistant, but what brilliant ideas. I’ve been wanting to extend my flowerbeds in the backyard and now I understand why the disproportionate size is really nagging at me to change it. Thank you!!
You are a very knowledgeable designer. I’ll be referring to your videos when I’m ready to put an island together! Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Please do more of this Michelle! I’m stuck trying to landscape my two level front yard. I’m trying to work in a driveway column with lights on the elevated part of my front yard that’s facing the street (cul de sac). New subscriber.👍
Hi Michelle! New sub here! I gave up on trying to find the "G" in a certain cable channel that USED to carry landscaping and gardening content! 😅 Love the way you use visual graphics to show viewers how to plan beds. There are so many new homeowners out there who are very afraid of making mistakes, so they simply do nothing when they could be really enjoying their our door space. Thank you! I'm also a Boulder girl...I once baked an apple pie for a guy with an earth mover,so he would push some boulders to the back of my property!😅 #teamrocks
Amazing results. Thanks 👏 🤩 Thanks for sharing 👍 I appreciate it very much.
Thank you Michelle great video. Great ideas. Love this channel. Come on warmer weather!!! LOL!
Right?!
I love your ideas and I plan to implement them in my yard.
Beautiful!!
Thank you! 😊
Hi Michelle, perfect timing again! I have to revamp a couple of garden beds so your design principles and examples are perfect! The only things I have to be careful of are underground electrical, plumbing and gas lines! 😂❤️🌲🌸🇨🇦
Yup...make sure you get those utilities marked 😀
@@gardeningTLC yes, absolutely. Thanks !
This tutorial was so helpful.
I've wanted to add an island bed in my west-facing back yard since I get poked in the eye ☀️ standing at the kitchen sink to do dishes. (A block or two over, they lost a tree a couple years ago when a mild tornado blew through - it was a zero on the tornado scale.) 😱
My lawn guys have big machines so I checked to see how much space they need to get around. I have an arbor to allow access to the other side.
I really like that "Dr. Seuss" chamaecyparis tree, but they seem difficult to find and online trees are so tiny. Rabbits are a problem so I either have to fence off the shrubs and trees for winter or find plants they won't chew on. (Who am I kidding?!)
Another fabulous video! So many great designs. My tendency is to plant more variety of plants, often one of’s, which looks messy. I can see from your designs that picking fewer varieties in greater numbers is more visually appealing.
Thanks for sharing your expertise with us! Our two acre property definitely has space for island designs. Your formula for size is very helpful and surprising. I never would have gotten the scale right without your video. I also liked your selection of workhorse shrubs and perennials. I love color Spring-Autumn and evergreens for winter interest.
Glad it was helpful!
I love your videos!
😻👋🏽Hi! I just found your channel. I love your attitude. My house my garden! I love it!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for joining us!!! 😀😀
I love your channel! We just took down the huge play set that my kids, now college age, and only one 15-year-old left in the house, played on their whole lives. Heartbreaking! So many wonderful memories:) My only solace is I hope to create an island garden there. You have given me so many wonderful ideas. Thank you. 💚🌱
OMG!! I stumbled upon your video 1:17am!! Michelle I feel I know you!! Thank you!! Great information!! Stunning Islands!! Looking forward to other Videos!!

Glad it was helpful!
Love, love, love your channel!! I’m so happy I found your channel. I have been looking for help for my front yard landscape. Thank you for sharing and showing us how to design an island, because that’s my scenario. the only thing is that my island will have to be vertical because it is a long, narrow pieces of land.
Love all of these! thank you for sharing!
Glad you like them!
Awesome video! An island is exactly what I’m wanting to create this year in order to add beauty and balance on the north side of our house which only has an old maple tree that is probably going to have to come down. The area gets limited sun, so I’ll have to use more shade tolerant plants, but the information you provided on dimensions, shape, and weight will help tremendously! Thank you!
Wow, excellent information! So glad I found your channel 💚💚💚
Welcome!
Love your channel! Very informative and helpful. Great designs.
Thanks so much!
Great video, Michelle 💚💛💜💙🧡

Glad you like it!
Love this video!!! Another hit!
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Luv your videos . Everything makes so much sense 😊
Glad you think so!
I needed all this information. I like rocks in my beds too, and happen to have one that will be moved to our new flower bed. Your first flower bed gave me the most inspiration for my new bed. Which is in front of a 25 ft deep ravine, and nobody lives behind us. I have daylilies I can transplant to it. So all I need to buy is 6 hydrangaes and 6 veronias. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
This video explains so much! Thank You!
You're very welcome!
🙌🙌🙌…come on Spring to 5b… my hellebros are looking fabulous 😎… i visited your store in late Nov. great place and thank you for this video👍

I love your detailed explanation abt what to consider , and why u choose an island. Wish u can design mine. Bought a house and 1acre land. House sits in middle of property. Seems very overwhelming sometimes since i have no experience abt landscape design. But your video gives a good insights. Thank you very much
Great video! I moved 3 years ago to my lovely home with several islands that need HELP! This video gave me great tips and ideas for colors, balance and shapes. I have a feeling I’m going to be busy over the next few years redoing them or hiring a professional to do them for me.
Remember you don't have yo don't all at once...
So glad I found your video. Such a good idea for my yard. I grew up in Freeport IL, so I know exactly where your business is. Always be an Illinois girl, no matter where I am. Thank you for the ideas
You are so welcome!

Much appreciated from Colo
Love your designs and plant choices. Thnx for ideas and inspiration!
What an amazing video. I have learned so much from you about Island beds. Thank you so much for making this video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tips and plant suggestions. I learned a lot. Subscribed.
Welcome 😀
Excellent video! Thanks for the info!
My pleasure!
good examples. i am a home gardener. zone 8b. the local school district decided to put a baseball complex behind my house. it is just great. i have never heard so much screaming like their hair is on fire ever before. i need a wall of something evergreen and pretty that can double as a wind/sound and spotlight break. before i break. it faces west, so it has to take the heat. i am thinking to go with arizona cypress. seen too many junipers fail here in central texas, waco area, but i would like some color variation. placement is definitely an issue for a newb like me. i like the way you alternated the placement of the trees to fill in the gaps. that is a great idea. we can't grow peonies, hydrangea, camellia, azalea, gardenia, or phlox, just too hot or alkaline here. straight up clay. :(
Try russian sage
Maybe in future videos you can talk a little about the maintenance of the gardens, like how to maintain the crisp edges? How often to apply mulch? Do you use weed barriers?
You have such a wealth of knowledge, I’m going to be watching more of your videos!
Good idea
Love your videos,!
Yes, I did. We just created an "island" and it took 250 bags of mulch to "mulch" the bed.
Terrific video. I've been struggling for three years as what to do with a fig tree my husband planted in the front 1 5 acre yard near the road. It's a fig tree surrounded by grass and I luv it but hate how he just plopped it down randomly. I just hot inspired by this video thank you! I also have an intimate space between side of my house (east) and fence with a u shape of shade trees that I like to sit on a bench. Been thinking about making a small island with a moon garden. I was just afraid of making a mistake and ruining that space but now you mention islands can be in small spaces too I might give it a go.
I just found your channel, so glad! Actual helpful information. Subscribed 👍🏻
Welcome aboard!
I love learning from you! Thanks so much.
