Well I have friends, but they are more like "fun times mates". I mean, I never tell them very personal things and situations, and I don't ask them about theris, because I don't like being involved. My best friend always lies to me, even about the smallest things. They also throw me under the bus whenever they've messed up or gotten themselves into a problem, I either have to be the scapegoat or the one cleaning up after them. They never have time for me and when they say they do they always cancel last second. I feel like I'm not a part of their life anymore, for instance, I'm the last one in the friend group who gets to know something because they always go to everyone else even to people they don't know that well. Then when I confront them they say: "It's not like that, you know YOU'RE my best friend, I wouldn't ignore or leave you out on anything" Then they proceed to hang out with everyone else without ever inviting me. I don't why they do this, I've asked them plenty of times, I've even apologized in case there's something I've done wrong. I would drop anything and everything for them if they needed me, but they're never there for me. They always blame their behaviour and such on their mood, mental health and past events, and it makes me feel even shitter for being upset with them.
My friends are nothing like this. They have been there for me in my literal worst times, they cheer me on when things are going good or when I accomplish things, and they let me know when I'm being an ass and they be honest with me if they didnt like something I did. I really love those people.

I have some Fake Friends when I was still in elementary school, some of them hate me and act like I'm invisible, and I get bully when I was in 5th grade, so I like to stay quiet. OML my ‘friend’ does basically everything in this- she called me ugly 3 times or more this year, she lies 24/7, she gossips nonstop, ALWAYS jealous, not as reliable- but it’s the end of my intermediate so I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of my life. (She’s going to a different high School) I have to put up with her for 1 day so don’t worry bout me, all the MOST horrible stuff happened last year, when I came home crying because of it. I thought about this in terms of a group I have been struggling with and definitely notice signs here. Frustratingly, I also know I have done some of these when with them myself. As I realized this and became uncomfortable and tried to call them out they've turned on me. Gossiping is a big one, in middle and high school that's just a part of that culture isn't it? As I've gotten older I've become very uncomfortable with it. I also used to always be the shy quiet one, but as I've gotten louder and said hay this needs to be reciprocal, I have things I want to say and you all to hear too they've taken issue with that? It's interesting to think about how nuanced some of these can be at any rate, and how they can change over time.

My reason might be uncommon. I am only guilty of talking behind their back (clearly) and lying. We were definitely a set of codependent partners (she seems to have cluster b personality disorders.) I was eventually "demoted," to being a "best friend." Which is honestly pretty insulting after being a romantic partner. Especially given how bad the rest of the relationship was. There was very little holding me there and I was trying to get out of the relationship. After about 1 sex-less year (between us) she found out she was pregnant. She does not have a permanent place to live and is broke, so over the past couple months I've been helping her wade through government assistance options available to her. We've finally managed to get her housing assistance and her own place to live mostly paid for by grants, unemployment, and other subsidies, though she will need to find work within 6 months. The entire time I have been helping her has been excruciating. I don't want to be here, helping, but feel like I can't leave someone I cared about completely on their ass, knowing they can get assistance with some patience and phone calls. And also knowing they do not have the patience to do it alone. But given that knowledge I am definitely a fake friend. I talk about her negatively to other friends, and I lie by action.
2 years ago in my junior year of high school, I had a fake friend who was a psychopath and a satanist. She took advantage of me and causes me to have trust issues to this day. She told me so many lies and I was so naive that I really believed her. She pretended to be my friend for 4 months and then she started gossiping about me and spreading rumors about me. She had thoughts about hurting me. Since the school that I was in did nothing to stop the bullying and torture, I had to leave that school. I'll never forget a time I was telling my 'best friend' a story that had happened to me (that was kinda dramatic and shocking, but what happened in the story isn't important). We went our seperate ways for a month or so and then met up again. We have general chit chat and then she starts telling me a story that had happened to her. Yes. It was my story, only she was telling me about it like it had happened to her. I sat there stunned, letting her just talk and finish. I was quiet when she finished and she says "have I told you that story before?". To which I replied that it was my story that I had told her last time we met. She just brushed it off and changed the subject. I just couldn't believe it. This girl had obviously lied so many times that she just couldn't keep track anymore.
I know for a fact that I am a fake friend actually... not in the way that this video describes, but I have a co-worker who thinks we're the best of friends and I have no idea why. I'm always polite to people and strive to establish a positive relationship, but I was never offering a hand of friendship. To me being friendly is especially important at work, where I'm going to interact with these people every day. I have some Fake Friends when I was still in elementary school, some of them hate me and act like I'm invisible, and I get bully when I was in 5th grade, so I like to stay quiet.
Now I'm in middle school, I try my best to make a friend but I still getting hate, they're some of my classmates who expect me. But because of my past experiences I mostly quiet because I don't want to get more hate.
Sometimes I just sits there and just watching and listening to what others said or you can say I'm just an observer.
And I noticed a lot of my classmates are fake friends, only 4/5 (girls) that I can trust, Maybe?

All of these points reminded me of a fake friend that I lost around 2 weeks ago, as well as some other fake friends that I have had in the past, mainly due to all of these points being extremely accurate with them

4. It’s always about them,they’re simply selfish
5. They are extremely critical of you.

OML my ‘friend’ does basically everything in this- she called me ugly 3 times or more this year, she lies 24/7, she gossips nonstop, ALWAYS jealous, not as reliable- but it’s the end of my intermediate so I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of my life. (She’s going to a different high School) I have to put up with her for 1 day so don’t worry bout me, all the MOST horrible stuff happened last year, when I came home crying because of it. And I’m usually a happy person

I thought about this in terms of a group I have been struggling with and definitely notice signs here. Frustratingly, I also know I have done some of these when with them myself. As I realized this and became uncomfortable and tried to call them out they've turned on me. Gossiping is a big one, in middle and high school that's just a part of that culture isn't it? As I've gotten older I've become very uncomfortable with it. I also used to always be the shy quiet one, but as I've gotten louder and said hay this needs to be reciprocal, I have things I want to say and you all to hear too they've taken issue with that? It's interesting to think about how nuanced some of these can be at any rate, and how they can change over time.

It is SURE that there is people who are seeing this video who were or are being fake friends, so I have a question for you. Why ?? I don't wanna judge, just understand
My reason might be uncommon. I am only guilty of talking behind their back (clearly) and lying.
We were definitely a set of codependent partners (she seems to have cluster b personality disorders.) I was eventually "demoted," to being a "best friend." Which is honestly pretty insulting after being a romantic partner. Especially given how bad the rest of the relationship was. There was very little holding me there and I was trying to get out of the relationship.
After about 1 sex-less year (between us) she found out she was pregnant. She does not have a permanent place to live and is broke, so over the past couple months I've been helping her wade through government assistance options available to her. We've finally managed to get her housing assistance and her own place to live mostly paid for by grants, unemployment, and other subsidies, though she will need to find work within 6 months.
The entire time I have been helping her has been excruciating. I don't want to be here, helping, but feel like I can't leave someone I cared about completely on their ass, knowing they can get assistance with some patience and phone calls. And also knowing they do not have the patience to do it alone. But given that knowledge I am definitely a fake friend. I talk about her negatively to other friends, and I lie by action.
2 years ago in my junior year of high school, I had a fake friend who was a psychopath and a satanist. She took advantage of me and causes me to have trust issues to this day. She told me so many lies and I was so naive that I really believed her. She pretended to be my friend for 4 months and then she started gossiping about me and spreading rumors about me. She had thoughts about hurting me. Since the school that I was in did nothing to stop the bullying and torture, I had to leave that school. My ex-fake Friend won’t be able to hurt me now because I’ll never see her again!

I'll never forget a time I was telling my 'best friend' a story that had happened to me (that was kinda dramatic and shocking, but what happened in the story isn't important). We went our seperate ways for a month or so and then met up again.
We have general chit chat and then she starts telling me a story that had happened to her. Yes. It was my story, only she was telling me about it like it had happened to her. I sat there stunned, letting her just talk and finish. I was quiet when she finished and she says "have I told you that story before?". To which I replied that it was my story that I had told her last time we met. She just brushed it off and changed the subject.
I just couldn't believe it. This girl had obviously lied so many times that she just couldn't keep track anymore.
I know for a fact that I am a fake friend actually... not in the way that this video describes, but I have a co-worker who thinks we're the best of friends and I have no idea why. I'm always polite to people and strive to establish a positive relationship, but I was never offering a hand of friendship. To me being friendly is especially important at work, where I'm going to interact with these people every day. But now he thinks we're good friends and I don't want to ruin our good work relationship by telling him the truth. So am I a fake friend? I don't want to be friends but I don't want to be enemies.
