    Tip nr 6 - use the narrowest tyres and smallest rim dimension your car supports :) The narrower and higher the tyre is, traction will be better. I daily a E46 and i use 195/65/15 now. In the past i used 225/45/17 and it was awful. Trust me, use smaller wheels and you won’t have problems during winter. And forget about the sandbags in the trunk. These are stories 😂. Two Years ago in winter I had a mercedes RWD car. There was one day of skiing where the road conditions were really bad... I drove at like 30 Km per hour not accelerating at all, no steering inputs no breaking and the car went swinging from side to side... I had proper tires on and I really enjoy drifting from time to time. Nevertheless on this day, I decided to not buy a RWD car again. Drifting is fun as long as you do it intentionally. If you just want to commute an AWD is so much more relaxed and you can still drift it in winter.

    As a Audi owner, I can safely say that you can drive faster than anyone during the snow storm. You literally just overtake everyone out there and they all look like they stagnant. That's my experience with Audi in snowy winter. And I am not even trying to drive fast or showing off. I was just driving at a safe comfortable pace of 30-40 mph.

    All-Season/4-Season Tires are completely fine if you're in region that doesn't have too much snow and live in a fairly flat region. I even manage to get to a ski resort not far from here maybe 2 hours. There's usually some more snow but the main roads closer to the mountain area have gentle rise unless you take the backroad on the other side of the mountains through the canyon - which will be unlikely unless you need to avoid a sudden traffic jam on the regular route from resort to the highway home. We did it once because the traffic jam on left turn was insane navigation so I turned right to the alternate route all the way around and up then down the mountain - driving was fine traffic was going only 30-40 km/h for safety so.
    But overall season specific tires are obvioudly better.
    But in my location it doesn't matter.

    My snow driving tips for the BMW M2 or any other rear-wheel drive car:
    -Don't buy a rear-wheel drive car if you live in a place where there are lots of snow/icy days per year!
    -Don't buy an expensive car to drive in filthy road conditions with road salt!
    -Buy something that has 4 wheel drive and that you don't have much love for it: you may easily get stuck, bump into stuff or others may easily bump into you on icy conditions! There's nothing like buying a brand new and expensive car only to arrive at the next spring with a car with several dents and needing new bumpers, side panels or even a new paint job!!

    Some usefull tricks for beginner thats ok. But i would like to see you to start your car when you can't go back on a hill because there is others car behind you. Rear wheeel driven cars are really bad on snow if you admit or not thats the case becase the weight of the engine is on the front. Best solution is put weight into the trunk that balance the car. And put the snow chain if needed.

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  Před 5 lety

      If there are cars behind me, I would wait for them to clear and then go back down the hill. RWD drive cars require you to chance your driving style and they're not ideal for driving on snow but I would call them 'really bad'. Not at all.
      I've never really had major issues driving this car in the winter and I've driven it for two seasons.

    First of all: This is a good video and it addresses the main challenges of driving the M2 in winter. However, it is a bit dramatic at times and I think I would be terrified if I saw it before buying the car. Now that I have the M2 and driven it through a fair bit of snow I have to say it drives exceptionally well on snow, I'm really surprised! Obviously provided you have decent winter tyres! The only thing that I'm really terrified of is coming to a stop uphill (like in 02:55) but with other cars behind me. That would be a terrible situation...
