    I'm 100% sure that even without Vaughn they would have helmet holes because that is just what the Phase 2 Clone helmet is now. The reason for no helmet holes with the 187th troopers is that it released before the Cody set. If it were to release now they definitely would have them.

    In my opinion the helmet holes aren’t a complete deal breaker. But maybe it should be. This shows LEGO that despite not being entirely happy about it, we’re still willing to buy these clones. They save a lot of money not putting in 2 different kinds of helmets in one set, and not making molds for any other accessory besides visors. This may not be a big problem now, except for the fact that the clones with no accessories won’t be consistent with the old helmets, but once LEGO sees that we don’t care about something like this, in an army that we all love, that LEGO knows we love, what else will they be able to get away with? Just worried there’s gonna be a lot of “yeah it’s annoying, but it’s not a deal breaker” type of stuff in future LEGO, and everyone will hate it. And it will all be traced back to this moment in LEGO history.

Just look at mega construx Halo figs for example, crazy levels of articulation and customization all while being incredibly accurate in detail, and you typically pay about $5 per figure, just like Lego. I never understood why they designed those without helmet holes in mind right off the bat, when for years beforehand they had been churning out phase 1 helmets and mandalorian helmets with holes. It's such a basic aspect of functionality. They shot themselves in the foot by treating it as an afterthought and now they're trying (badly) to play catch-up.

    Honestly, my biggest issue with the new clone figures is that their helmet holes seem to result in messed up printing, for some reason. All the prints are bowed out from the central fin and don't line up where they should be. The 212th AT-TE clones were even worse, having the orange arrow print not coming to point at the end as it should, in addition to the misaligned printing problem. Neither of these things were an issue on he old 212th clones, or any phase 2 clone figures without the helmet holes, and isn't really acceptable for the absurd prices Lego charges for their sets. If they fixed the printing issues, I could live with the helmet holes not always being in the right place.

      they are making them more expensive to match with inflation, making ultra specialised new helmets with no choice for accessories completely goes against lego’s design philosophy and would just make the prices even more expensive. the visors and rangefinders are supposed to work on all clones and mandalorians anyway so introduce this and you wont be able to put your shiny new accessories on other types of clones because they are moulded into them.

    The helmet holes are severely overblown non issue. They are where they are to save money, yes, but also to keep accessories swappable between p1 and p2 helmets.
    Real issues are bad quality prints and lack of fabrics. Vauhn should've had different print, and preferably be included in non battlepack set. Rex should have kama and pauldron.
    Helmet holes are just a meaningles detail compared to those things

    • @DarkBluishGray
      @DarkBluishGray  Před 10 měsíci

      I totally see that point. The helmet holes don't bother me much, though I think they further fuel the opinion that quality and attention to detail are going down, while prices continue to go up.
      Lack of fabric and print quality being prime examples.

    • @nihili4196
      @nihili4196 Před 10 měsíci +1

      I agree with sentiment, but this is being angry at wrong thing. Yeah, helmet holes aren't exactly pretty, but at least they're useful and allows for lot's of customisation. They work within system.
      But bad prints, bad quality prints, lack of fabrics, minifigs that doesn't look like characters they're supposed to be.... This are massive problems. But people focus on heccin helmet holes, pushing everything else to the side, only mentioning those things off handedly.
      With the amount of profit Lego is making, we should be getting arm printing and dual leg moulds on at least more importantly clones. We should be getting accurate prints. We should be getting Kamas on top of leg prints if Lego insists on them. If all, or even more of those were a thing, helmet holes would be just a detail that not everyone likes.
      Honestly I wish holes were the only problem we have with minifigs alone.

    You said the helmet holes come only for clones if they appear in the same set that have a clone trooper with a "must have" accessory and use the purple clones set as an example for proof, but the purple 187 clones came out BEFORE the helmet holes started in the first place. So it has nothing to do with certain caracters witch need to have accessorys, the helmet holes just started at an certain point (At-At set) and will come with any clone trooper from now on. Even without a character with a "must have" accessor.
    I think with the january clone battle pack set (which is rumored to have normal plain clones and corusant troopers) you will see, that It will have nothing to do with your theory,

    • @DarkBluishGray

      The helmet holes seem to be designed particularly for the visor accessory. If the Commander included in the Republic Fighter Tank set was a visor clad Clone rather than with an airborne helmet, I'm sure it would have been the first set to include the helmet holes. Instead we saw it in the AT-TE with Commander Cody. Every set that has been released including the helmet holes has included a visor clone. You're right, the upcoming January battle pack will test this theory, because technically none of them should have helmet accessories. I hope LEGO goes back to the other helmet mold for that battle pack, but i have low expectations.
